Well maybe you only get to be involved in one of them and the others are done behind the scenes like operations? The three for your class become available at level seven and you pick one to do? Either way there are still nine specialisation quests whether they involve companions or not.

In all honesty, I think it'll be like DA2 and once each companion hits Level 7, it opens up.

Might be a stupid question but why is everyone against that particular passive?

Well, I was against it back when I thought the KE would be tougher.  Back then I didn't want enemies switching targets and going after the other mages and rogues (just the PC and the warrior), but I've changed my build so now my KE will take it.  Right now, all of my mages will have it.

I want to make a tanky KE, and i don't mind the attention :P

From the layout of the trees, it is implied that you can circle around abilities.

But maybe they just mean it only works forward.

Oh well.

Ah ok, tbf that's kinda what I wanna do with my KE but i'm not sure if it's possible.

Nah, you have to get the passive. I hate it too.

You could take the long way around.  Get guardian spirit, mind blast, revive, dispel, then and finally the barrier passive if you're avoiding the threat reduction passive.

I think this is how it works... I mean, what would be the point of arranging it like this if we could only go in one direction?  On the other hand, being able to skip unwanted skills might be wishful thinking, so I'm not sure...

I think most of my parties will have two mages so I can go for more specialized builds with them. So my Qunari KE just wont bother with dispel!  :P

I'm not against really so much as that I'm annoyed that I need to use a point to go around it to get Dispel.

What is the passive? Also, if you were a human, you'd get that passive for free. :P

This is why playing as a non-specialized mage inDAI, IMO, is the way to go. The basic trees offer more than enough versatility via spells and passives that I simply do not see the need to specialize.

I find that passive useful if some people/creatures are going to go for my ranged attackers first.

If it works like that, cool.

If it doesn't, well, no Dispel.

Yeah, my elven KE isn't taking it.  I'm going to have Cassandra use her Templar Dispel (w/e it's called) most of the time, otherwise, it'll be Solas and/or Dorian.  Vivienne doesn't have room for it either, but if Cassandra is around, that should probably be enough.

I am a human, silly!

Hmmm, also, if you used Dispel, you would lose the chance to utilize the bonus for Spirit Blade against Guard and Barriers.

I see the pointy ears in that avatar... >_<

That said, I don't think the passive is that bad, assuming it won't be bugged.

It's fine, I just was a little annoyed to have to use a point on it.

And my Gale is human, thank you very much.

Yes. I can see how some abilities may not be desired. It might be worth it to take the shortest path.

That's a good point.  I'd also no longer have access to one spell from each element and two dodge abilities, so it's just out of the question for my PC...  there's no way I could make that work so I won't even consider it.  Banishing demons does sound cool though...

I'm starting to agree. Unless Necro turns out to be incredibly fun, I'm leaning towards playing an Inferno/Storm/Spirit(ish) mage.

I don't care about KE. I'll probably never play it. I'm on the fence about Rift mage if it's just a damage tree with spells that have been revamped/increased in power. As for Necro, if it leans in the support direction I'll consider it. If it's just a new entropy/spirit tree..eh, I'll probably pass.

Oh, I agree with you that gating is always aggravating. I just meant that it could have been worse.

And you might need to file those ears down a bit. ;)

I'll be sure to tell that to the nice woman who had been kind enough to commission this for me, for free no less.

Wait a minute here... I thought you were talking about a qunari KE.  Why wouldn't you want +50% threat reduction on a Rift Mage?  Isn't that kind of useful for a mage who specializes in offense?

Lol, I tried to add a laughing emoji, but it didn't quite go right/BSN wigged out on me.

You can go Inferno, Storm, Frost, Spirit Mage if you are not specialized. In your hotbar you can have up to 8 abilities, so that means 2 from each school.

I have been playing as non specialized mage since DA:O and it is a lot of fun. You have more versatility which means you can be the sole mage in your party and this means you can have your other mages be very niche, specific and specialized.

You aren't going to use a Focus ability? :0
