Meh, I'm gonna skip that one then.
I might skip it. It really depends if Guard will count as "HP loss".

Depending on a few factors there is some merit to the passive. If we do find ourselves in the situation where we do lose guard quickly and we are low on stamina that passive could save our lives but it is a big IF. We have no idea how many enemies have abilities that do bonus damage to guard nor are we completely sure on the how much it will protect us in the end. While I love all the options we have to obtain guard it makes me wonder if they did that because mobs tear thru it quickly or maybe they just wanted to give us more options ( like viable 2handed tanking.....ewwwww). I'll have to look & see where in the tree that passive is to see if I'll pick it up on my tank or not. Now a reaver MIGHT get more bang for their buck with that. If those self damaging abilities activate that passive that'll increase reaver DPS by ALOT! I'll test that out with Iron Bull when the game comes out as I wanted him to really have a focus on high risk, high reward with his reaver skills.
Wow initially I thought of completely opting out of Charging Bull from the Vanguard tree considering how limited we are in our abilities and how underwhelming it seemed. But since the reveal that it generates guard AND its upgrade (Gore and Trample) doesn't cost any stamina on your next ability...holy crap.
Think of this way...it only costs 5 stamina per second and has an 8 second cooldown...basically making it spammable.
Let me summarize what I'm thinking
Charge into enemy --> waste about 10-20 stamina total --> gain 10-40% guard --> use massive ability that would typically cost 35-60 stamina as a follow up with no stamina cost at all --> Obliterate foes while having a nice generated amount of guard keeping your warrior safe --> rinse and repeat in about 8 seconds
This changes SO many things...Block and Slash which used to be deemed absolutely necessary for Two Handers is now practically obsolete. Awesome!
Yeah Elemental, I was thinking something like Charging Bull into War Cry. Charge into a group for some cost, get a free war cry to top off the Guard. I just need to know what that last sustained in Vanguard is at the bottom right before I know for sure which skills from Vanguard I'll be using. As much as I like Unbowed I'll probably go with the more offensive looking skill.
Oh, and that last passive? I'm guessing dmg vs taunted enemies right now - that or bonus armor 'vs' taunted enemies... or guard build from being hit by taunted enemies. Either way vs taunted enemies!

But also keep in mind that Unbowed doesn't cost any stamina! So you can use it as a triple combo and tank it the f**k up.
Charge Bull --> War Cry (no stamina cost) --> Unbowed (also no stamina cost) =90% guard for only 3 enemies plus taunted enemies.
I hear ya though, it may be a little unnecessary. We'll see.
Damn I'm getting really giddy thinking about some charging bull combos.
Charging bull + Whirlwind
Charging bull + Holy Smite
Charging bull + Mighty Blow/Shield Bash
It's epic.
I hope the Reaver and Templar trees get revealed in complete detail soon. Mind you It's a dangerous game trying to get spoilers for one thing while avoiding everything else... I don't even visit the rest of the DA:I board anymore.
Other than that it seems like an Archer/Artificer is going to be a fun solo nightmare run, although it wasn't really possible in the last two games (or it was a serious pain in the ass).
I'm most excited to see the Rift, Necromancer, Champion, and Tempest specializations. I originally thought Champion would be the tree that's all about aggro and guard building, but it seems like Vanguard has taken that role. I have a pretty good idea of what Templar and Reaver entails.
I got this planned;
Human Knight Enchanter
Human Templar Sword and Shield
Human Dual Daggers Assassin
Elf Archer Tempest
Elf Rift Mage
Elf Necromancer
Elf Reaver Sword and Shield
Dwarf (can't pick between DD or archer) Artificer
Dwarf Two Hander (no specialization!)
Qunari Two Handed Champion
Qunari Mage (gonna see if I like Knight Enchanter or Rift Mage more)
man, the Vanguard tree looks impressive!!
We see a little bit of Revival at 3 minutes. Oh, and 3:20. Oh, and 3:55 or so. Okay, it's all over this fight. I'm gonna stop now lol and just watch the rest.

Starting to get curious if the Assassin spec is geared solely for melee or if it would be general enough to use with ambush Archery m'self.
That mage staff twirl and saturated colors of spells are grating me slightly as a viewer. As a participant, well ...

It has been said that you can use the different weapons with the specializations if you want.
I'm more than confident that champion will have something like bravery maybe as a passive. If it is described as the "tanking" spec I hope it doesn't overlap with vanguard. I think we have enough guard generating abilities lol.
There will probably be more lol.
I'd say it has to do with aggro, guard generation, and party buffs. Thing is, I believe all of those are covered in the Battlemaster and Vanguard trees. So could that mean champion went a more offensive route? It never has before.
Here is the offical description for clarification and reference
These powerful defenders protect their allies from harm, standing strong against devastating blows with expert training and fierce determination. Enemies can't kill them—and usually can't survive them.
The "protecting their allies from harm" and "standing strong against devastating blows" sounds a lot like what the Vanguard tree is doing. Odd...

I read that as a party wide defensive passive and immune to critical attacks passive
