That all said if you see enemies running at you as an archer you could just stealth, and the knock down effect I keep seeing in videos may require an upgrade since it's not listed on the base ability.

Wha? Neither Stealth or it's upgrade have knockback...

Going Rogue is looking better and better. The new Qunari Rogue Impression showcased a very cool stealth effect.

The possibilities with funneling enemies through choke points via Ice Wall and into spells, traps or Blackwall may change my Mage spec.  Curious if enemies will avoid Firewall or other timed spells.. and by what amount.

I want to see more about Rift Mage and Necromancer.  Sad there is no blood mage specialization.

I really hope Shadow Strike isn't a strictly melee range ability. Whose to say we can't fire an arrow that surprises our enemies as much as a melee attack could?

I have it incorporated in almost all of my archer builds lol. I mean, I guess the bright side would be that it opens up a new slot to me to experiment with and saves me 2 ability points to spend.

Still, I'd rather have it. It's a cool ability.

@Eluvianus Rex : You should re-read what I said though to save you time I was talking about Shadow Strike, not stealth. I was saying all the videos show shadow strike with knock down effect (in an AoE in front of the rogue). And you could use stealth instead of shadow strike to run away as an archer. But that was the main reason an archer would be using Shadow Strike, is to knock down enemies charging them down to get distance.

As far as damage output, plenty of archery skills crap all over Shadow Strike as far as damage output is concerned. I frankly wouldn't use the skill over the archer skills if I wanted to dish out damage, so... yeah it's just CC. I mean, Full Draw? 800% weapon dmg that's already 200% more dmg at BASE, then an 'extra' 800% if the targets full HP. So starting the fight, 1600% weapon dmg - screw Shadow Strike compared to that. Hell, it's  upgrade knocks people out for 20 seconds, so pick a target you want dead or out of the fight, start it off with that shot and they either auto-die, or take absurd dmg 'and' are knocked out for a good chunk of the fight.

Long Shots 200% base dmg, +400% (same as shadow strike) as long as your 15 yards or further... or you know, being an archer. It's upgrade lets it pierce targets and each target hit ups its dmg (screw physics, their stupid anyway). Cost same stamina cost as Shadow Strike with a shorter cool down. Seriously an archer wont be using shadow strike as damage output any time, it's just CC for getting away and as I said, stealth will do that just fine.... for cheaper, and making your next shot from stealth do x2 dmg. Think about that for a second, x2 dmg on your overdraw first shot? x2 dmg after evading persuers with a Long Shot for 1200% dmg? Shadow Strike can suck it as far as any archer I play is concerned.

Now that we have more information on Mage specializations and such, I can't help but wish we had race specific specializations. I can't bring myself to play a KE on a nonhuman mage (rp-wise) , and would have loved to play a variant of the keeper spec we had in awakenings with my Dalish mage. I'm really disappointed that Bioware didn't take the chance to give us new versions of the spells in the awakenings spec since we are able to play Dalish Firsts! Or at least we could have gotten some of Merril's talents from DA2.

Maybe they are tucked into the Rift Mage spec, or maybe we will never be able to shank people with tree roots again. That was incredibly fun! :(

Only the bottom left spirit  passive left to go ;)

I think that last upgrade makes it so that allies affected by your barrier get increased mana/stamina regeneration.

The last passive skill in the spirit tree on the far bottom left can be seen if you pause the video at 1:07

Rejuvenating Barrier

"When you or your allies have an active barrier, the beneficial energy invigorates them and helps them recover mana or stamina more quickly."

mana regeneration: 35%

constitution on unlock: +3

From what I've seen from the crafting system they basically moved a bunch of DA:O spells into it:

  • Magic elemental weapon buffs (with weapon aura animation): Weapon Glyphs
  • Stinging swarm: Jar of Bee's
  • Regeneration: Regenerative potion
  • Rock Armor Potion: Meh, mechanically different but still named after the Rock Armor spell.
  • Antivan Fire: Works like any AOE spell from DA:O, damaging character's over time.

All those were from a small glimpse of the crafting system. What's my point... well I don't really have one, I just found it interesting.

I love mages, but the more I see of the warrior skills, the more interested I am to play one. I am really looking forward to see what the champion tree has.

Hah I know exactly what you mean. I too love my mages, but the more I see of rogues , the more rogue characters I plan :)

That said, they are all Tempest rogues.

I have never been so excited to try a rogue. I abhor rogues, but DAI has changed my mind mightily.

Well, DA2's assassin was also quite fun, especially pre-nerf :)

But yeah, archery looks brilliant in this game, and I'm really interested in seeing how it might synergize with the tempest or assassin specializations.

And dare I say it, but with this new guard mechanic even tanking looks potentially fun.

I want the Assasin specialty. I believe in high damage dealing, and quick kills on the battlefield with little to no mercy.

I still waffle between rogue/archer and mage, but it's all good.

Word, warriors have always been my least favorite in RPGs honestly but Inquisition warriors are looking very fun and impressive. Seriously considering making my canon Inquisitor a warrior.

But most likely not :P

I think archer/assassin is going to be such a lethal combo. Let Solas or Dorian worry about spell work ;)

I will be rolling a human Templar for sure this game.

Not just because I'm interested in the spec and how awesome the vanguard tree seems to be, but for story immersion.

I'm hoping to be able to approach the Templar vs Mage issue like Thrask would.

Yeah, I think if I go rogue, I'm gonna run an Assassin, cause I would like to be the one to stealth and absolutely annihilate my foes.

All my warriors are gonna be Templars...though I might try a Champion.

Rogues will be mostly Assassins.

Mages will mostly be Rift Mages, with a single KE, probably.

Hell yea tanking is awesome! It'll be great to have more of us here. There are alot of builds that sound really fun right now. Artificer sounds really fun since I can fill the battlefield with mines more or less. The tactician in me is screaming at me the play one in the future. I want to know what DW rogues get as a focus ability.

If I play a mage I would totally be a necromancer with a huge focus on laying down walls & mines leaving mobs trapped with my DPS companions & minion(s).

I plan to mix the mages.

Dorian/Vivienne
Dorian/Solas
Solas/Vivienne

If like playing mages, but the rogue appeals to me this time around.

Oh yes, I think if I can bring the pain and death with the Archer/Assassin route. I plan o pluck everyone off from a distance. It's gonna be brutal.

Melee Assassin first up for me. Though I'm expecting it won't be Rogue Hawke level OP, I'm pretty sure I'll still be the last thing some fool never sees.

In this video http://m.youtube.com...h?v=PYeoOXUf7bE *beware spoilers* that contains an hour of footage with no commentary,
The elven archer inquisitor was able to stealth and activate poisoned weapons without breaking stealth.
I really hope that will also apply to Flask of Fire also, as I plan to take advantage of enemy elemental weaknesses.

Also, very amusing to hear what Harding says to the dalish inquisitor near the start.

You will be the secret weapon of the Inquisition. I'm betting the Assassin hits real hard, and with the other talents and passives, the rogue puts the hurting on foes who are too busy paying the warrior attention.

I usually play the mage in pretty much every RPG, but I'm definitely going Rogue in this game. I was constantly flipping between Rogue and Mage, but I like the mage party members more so than any of the rogues. So unless something drastic changes my mind, it'll definitely be Rogue for me.

But now I keep flipping between whether to be a DD or Archer - but seeing as we can respec it's not too big of a deal, but I think I'll go Archer. Two distance (me and Dorian) and two warriors (I love all 3 party members so they'll probably get switched around). If I decide to use another Rogue, I'll probably respec Sera with DD. Super keen - never really played as an Archer (or Rogue at all) before so it's going to be exciting.
