All my warriors are gonna be Templars...though I might try a Champion.

Rogues will be mostly Assassins.

Mages will mostly be Rift Mages, with a single KE, probably.

So far I eventually plan to play as

Templar human most likely a two handed weapon user, but the shield and weapon looks great too...

Daggers tempest qunari. The melee defence bonus provides a good benefit.

Archery Tempest dwarf.

Knight Enchanter Qunari.

Necromancer Human.

Dalish Rift Mage.

Though my first character will either be a Templar or one of the Tempests.....

My Templar will mostly roll with Cass, Vivienne, Dorian, Sera and Varric.

I usually play the mage in pretty much every RPG, but I'm definitely going Rogue in this game. I was constantly flipping between Rogue and Mage, but I like the mage party members more so than any of the rogues. So unless something drastic changes my mind, it'll definitely be Rogue for me.

But now I keep flipping between whether to be a DD or Archer - but seeing as we can respec it's not too big of a deal, but I think I'll go Archer. Two distance (me and Dorian) and two warriors (I love all 3 party members so they'll probably get switched around). If I decide to use another Rogue, I'll probably respec Sera with DD. Super keen - never really played as an Archer (or Rogue at all) before so it's going to be exciting.

Which spec are you looking at for your archer?

I will be rolling a human Templar for sure this game.

Not just because I'm interested in the spec and how awesome the vanguard tree seems to be, but for story immersion.

I'm hoping to be able to approach the Templar vs Mage issue like Thrask would.

I definitely agree and can relate: I have a sword and shield human templar playthrough planned :) just not first.

I'm avoiding spoilers so I don't know much about the story (and I hope to keep it that way) but I hope to also approach the Templar vs Mage issue like Thrask, minus the accepting of Blood Magic.

After pouring over all of the skill trees I've finally decided what class and spec I am going to play.

 2 handed warrior templar!

I would like to thank all of you for finding these pics and posting them.

Yeah I'm thinking of trying to go on a media blackout. Will hang about on this thread hoping to see information on the tempest and necromancer, and will watch the damp video as I am keen to play it.

And totally forgot about Thrask and blood magic.....whoops.

Either Tempest or Assassin - I remember seeing bits and pieces of each, but I couldn't find the pics of those skills trees in any of the links in the OP with a quick glance (and I'm not sure I want to now, and just have it as a surprise).

From what it sounds like on here though, they both sound awesome. Tempest would allow me to go back to my mage roots somewhat...

Ha, I'm the same. I can't choose between Assassin and Tempest--the former would REALLY make an archer rogue a killing machine, but I'm afraid it would get repetitive. Plus there will apparently be repercussions for your class? In that case, Assassin wouldn't be the best choice.

OTOH, all I know about Tempest is that it's a little magic-y. If I could see the skill trees for either that would be a big help.

Either way, I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to decide in-game.

"This" is my media blackout. I've only been on this thread since Monday where a massive load of spoiler videos came out. I don't even go on the forum browser anymore lol, I just bookmarked this particular thread.

The folks here avoid spoilers and post the 2 things I love most leading up to the game's release: ability screenshots and build discussions :)

@. Ap0crypha and pastabender,

In this video *spoilers* http://m.youtube.com...h?v=xtF8z3YSbHg at about 10mins 9 seconds to 10mins 30seconds we can see Sera activate Flask of Fire and see it's pretty visuals.

This video is a part of the footage shown by Mike Laidlaw and Cameron where the Inquisitor is a female human Knight Enchanter.

Unfortunately, as of yet we know nothing of what it does, though I'm guessing it's adding elemental damage to attacks and possibly elemental resistance.

I have a question, for those who've seen the videos and don't mind spoilers:

Is poison cloud activatable (is that a word?) from a distance? Eg like immolate? Or is it centered around the character who uses it? And do we know poison cloud's upgrade?

you can do it from a distance, i believe. i remember one of the streams where they had sera use it from afar before jumping into combat.

not sure about the upgrade

Ok cool, thanks!

I wonder if there's a CC combo with poison, or, say, a passive which lets enemies who are poisoned to have a chance to be stunned.

Kingdoms of amalur did this, and I thought it was a real good idea.

Kind of like how there's chilled and frozen, or burn and fear, or shocked and paralyzed.

Maybe there can be poisoned and sick? (or vomiting? :P)

Ugh! They better not vomit on my expensive armor. Anybody planning on using Friendly Fire? Personally I'm not since that is too much micromanaging for me.

Yes, playing as only 1 character will get repetitive fast. That is why I plan to play with all my party from time to time.

So far I am thinking on playing as:

- S&S tank

- Archery with Subterfuge

- Archery with poisons

- 2h Templar main tank

- Fire Mage pure dps focused

- DW rogue with stealth and artificier

- KE

I would like to main those, seems fun. My Inquisitors will surely be what my companions cannot do, due to specialization limitation. I am thinking on going Fire Mage first, and 2h templar second.

From what I've seen from the crafting system they basically moved a bunch of DA:O spells into it:

  • Magic elemental weapon buffs (with weapon aura animation): Weapon Glyphs
  • Stinging swarm: Jar of Bee's
  • Regeneration: Regenerative potion
  • Rock Armor Potion: Meh, mechanically different but still named after the Rock Armor spell.
  • Antivan Fire: Works like any AOE spell from DA:O, damaging character's over time.

All those were from a small glimpse of the crafting system. What's my point... well I don't really have one, I just found it interesting.

Beside the Jar of Bees, everything else was in the previous games (less or more, some mechanics are different).

Magic elemental weapon => fire/ice/lighting runes

Regeneration potions => Restorative Potions in DA2 (not in DA:O)

Rock Armor  => same name in DA2 and Rock Salve did something similar in DA:O

Antivan Fire => Combustion/Fell Grenade in DA2 or Fire Bomb in DA:O

Hmm yeah, maybe not. How about disoriented, then? That seems to match more with previosu games? :)

Edit: and with the limited AI tactics... No, I don't think so. I hated friendly fire in previous games and I'm not going to annoy myself with it this time around.

So far I plan to play

Storm/ Knight Enchanter Human Mage

Inferno/ Winter/Knight Enchanter Human Mage

S&B/ Vanguard/ Templar Human Warrior

Archery/ Tempest Elf Rogue

But I have no idea which order I want to play them in any more lol. Those warrior skills just look so sexy. I normally like to play a magical tank type mage that shoots lightning, but I am loving the idea of a S&B Templar this time around that constantly has guard up and uses Antivan Fire and Fire runes to amp up damage.

100% friendly fire here. While the whole tactics thing this time around is limited in so far as you can't setup very specific things, I always ensured my mages didn't use any AoE spells in them and we can still do that. I can also make sure they're mana doesn't drop past a certain point making sure when I pause to use an AoE spell I have the mana required for it so... really that part hasn't changed for me.

I was the kinda person that went pretty crazy with the tactics AI stuff but for most characters it didn't require to much, my main I always just had auto-attack since I played them 99% of the time and only swapped for specific things. The most complex AI behaviors for me where always my rogues. I liked to setup multiple conditions around using stealth to avoid them dying on there own. If they started getting attacked they'd stealth, that kinda thing. The downside in DAO and DA2? Are companions weren't smart enough to position them selves amongst other things.

Now, in DAI, we get control over some of the more important stuff, mana/stamina reserves (mostly important for a mage). We get access to who they target, that is I can ensure they're always targetting my main characters target, or the main tanks target depending on what im playing at the time. For instance my first party, Cassandra, Sera and Vivienne. Sera and Viv will always target my main characters target, and Cassandra will be left up to her own devices. She'll be semi-DMG oriented but be setup to allow for some off tanking if required.

Now though, unlike in the past games, and they've shown this a few times now there AI in general has improved a lot on the base. Where as before the AI was freakishly basic and only functioned outside of auto-attack and range checks if you had the proper behaviors set. That is to say, if I was to use a dagger rogue companion (Sera will be using a bow first time through) they will try to get BEHIND the enemies they're attacking if they can. I wont 'have' to always pause and be like 'ok get behind so you do proper dmg'.. .that's actually one thing less I'll have to pause over on every day encounters unlike the past 2 games. They didn't have behaviors that made them get behind their targets, no try to flank behaviors. So... yeah, I'm not seeing a huge issue with the current setup, even if I wish I could make it so Cassandra would only use Shield Wall when she was being directly attacked and had less then 25% guard. I'll just set Shield Wall to high use and see if she uses it even when not being attacked (I'm hoping shes smart enough not to).

(...), I can't help but wish we had race specific specializations. I can't bring myself to play a KE on a nonhuman mage (rp-wise) , and would have loved to play a variant of the keeper spec we had in awakenings with my Dalish mage.(...)

I suppose the whole thing kinda makes sense with the lore of it all, as far as i can tell we will actually be actively taught these Specializations so it would stand to reason even a Dalish mage can be taught to be a Knight-Enchanter

Addendum, you guys are talking about a number of trees (templar, tempest, etc.) like we can see the abilities in the first post of this topic but i can't seem to find them there, where can i see those?

I seriously loved the tactics from DA:O and DA:2. One of the few things DA:2 did that was actually an improvement was added more variety/versatility to the AI tactics (excluding tactical view). I try not to be biased but I'm unbelievably disappointed by a lack of tactics this time around.

What's trite is that Inquisition looks to be the deepest Dragon Age game yet, though it severely limited arguably the deepest part of the franchise.

We don't have the specialization trees yet. We've seen pieces of Knight Enchanter, and the Artificer trees via the Twitch demos. We're mostly basing our hopes/plans on speculation.  For example, for a rogue, I want the Assassin tree, and for mage, Necromancer. Haven't seen the trees, but based on the descries, I made those decisions.

I like that the AI has gotten better. The only concern I have about tactics are the ability specifics. I'd really like to have total control over who gets barrier, when they get it, and the circumstances in which it should be used.

I felt like Solas would use barrier on the PC. However, I'd want to use it on Cassandra more often - but when someone is under 40% health and Cassandra has guard, I'd like to use barrier on the characters under 40%. That ability just seems too useful to chalk up to the AI to use.
