I realize it's a-ways off still, but the way the MP skill trees work has me thinking some serious thoughts about how skills could work in DA4.
Imagine if the PC was the only character that had access to everything (just like they do now).
in contrast, what if the companions had personalized trees like in MP. So, for instance, Vivienne could be more geared towards aggressive/damaging magic. So, for actives only, she would have the following available:
Storm: Chain Lightning, Energy Barrage
Inferno: Immolate, Wall of FIre, Fire Mine
Winter: Fade Step, Winter's Grasp
Spirit: Barrier, Mind Blast, Dispel,
KE: Spirit Blade, The-Snail-One
That said, they wouldn't be grouped like that. Instead, she could have 3 trees: Unbowed Will (Spirit spells plus passives related to defense and survival), Enchanter's Wrath (Offensive tree with Storm, Inferno, and Winter spells), and maybe another like KE with some maybe personal ones mixed ins a la DA2?
Solas, in contrast, could have a very different flavor of magic - I think of it as more spirit-based and more defensive in general (though not without offense). So he could have Dreamwalker (the whole Spirit tree, essentially), Calm Before the Storm (Winter's Grasp, Fade Step, Chain Lighting, Blizzard, Lightning Bolt, Static Cage), and Fade Expertise (Some nice mana-based passives plus Rift Mage stuff).
It's obviously a rough idea, but I really like the idea. And this would be for all classes, at least in my mind. The only issue is that it would probably require weapon restrictions again for companions, which is the biggest downside. But still, I really find it a neat idea because I think it would be far more interesting for party builds and reflect different proclivities for companions. The key is that they would all still have to have different viable builds, just like they said about the Keeper - there's a focus, sure, but there are different ways of playing the Keeper even so. Thus it would be with Vivienne and Solas and so on and so forth.
I dunno, I'm interested in this.
