Hmmmm, I'm thinking that I might as well fire up a Knight Enchanter build for Viv.

I honestly have no effing clue which elemental she should specialize in, though I might have her go full Ice.

Anywho, here we go!

Spirit

Barrier

Peaceful Aura

Winter

-Winter's Grasp + Upgrade

-Fade Step

-Mana Surge

-Winter's Stillness

-Frost Mastery

-Wall of Ice + Upgrade

-Ice Mine

-Blizzard + Upgrade

-Ice Armor

Knight Enchanter

-Spirit Blade + Upgrade

-Veiled Riposte

-Fade Cloak + Upgrade

-Resurgence

-One more passive

Inferno

-Immolate + Upgrade

-Flashpoint

Storm

-Chain Lightning

-Energy Barrage

How do you guys think chaotic focus really works? Maybe it's just me, but the wording's a bit unclear on how to calculate the bonus damage.

Great builds! But no Templar or Reaver for Cass and Bull?

I couldn't fit them in; I was actually quite surprised with how much the Vanguard and Battlemaster trees appealed to me. I'll be playing on Nightmare without potions for my first playthrough and Cass & Bull will share my Warrior slot, so I tried to incorporate as much Guard building/damaging abilities as I could on them. I could go without a lot of their passives (unlike the mage passives, which I love) but unfortunately that's the way the paths go. Plus Reaver, Templar and Tempest just don't appeal to me, but I'll see when the specialisations are fully revealed. Solas and Cole (or rather, Rift Mage and Assassin) are the only ones I'm confident I'll be sinking points into based on what little I've seen of Rift Mage and expect from DA2's Assassin.

*snipped super-cool idea*

That would be very interesting. I'm hesitant to say it would be better because I can see it working both tremendously well and poorly, but it would certainly grab my attention.

I ended up just going with the concept arts, so I hope the game has as well! Everyone keeps mentioning Dorian + fire, so I'm hoping those are just dev-specific builds. I made Dorian, Solas and Vivienne specialise in Storm, Inferno and Winter respectively purely because of their awesome concept arts.

Tried to avoid a lot of the spoilers in the angryjoe vid but can anyone else confirm that his archer had long shot AND stealth immediately after character creation? Essentially he started off with TWO skills for free at level one and then because he was human had two more points to spend at level 2. That could really change my build if my PC gets two free skills on startup.

He had both. I think this is how it works:

At level one, we start with 2 abilities (keep in mind we get to re-spec for free after the prologue if you want). He had Long Shot and Stealth. In another video where somebody showed the prologue with a qunari mage, she had Chain Lightning and Flashfire. We gain an ability on level up, but we get a bonus point if human upon that level up. I think.

So his rogue:

Lvl. 1: Long Shot, Stealth

Lvl 2: 2 points - not sure where he spent them. Non humans would only have one point here.

It's true. I saw the video. The PC started with the two aforementioned abilities, then on his level up, he had two ability points to spend. Pretty cool.

From a Rogue perspective, I'm thinking that Varric with the right passives (Mercy Kill, Pincushion, Opportunity Knocks) and Poisoned Weapons would work well with a fire focused mage to take advantage of Fear.

Sera and her Tempest skills on the other hand would benefit more from a lightning focused mage to dish out big damage from up high on Shocked enemies.

Time to start theory crafting some Rogue builds...

I should also add for those who don't know that I'm fairly certain this is influenced by the build you pick at character creation - except mage since they're just...mage. So if you don't like Archery, you can obviously pick a daggers rogue and you'd get different starting abilities.

Edit: Never mind.

With Chaotic Focus, I  understood it to mean half of your barrier would be transferred into fire damage for every spell. So say you cast Immolate at a point in time where you have a barrier with 900hp, your barrier would immediately do down to 450 and Immlate would cast 450 more fire damage. But I could be very, very wrong.

I really like the Battlemaster tree for warriors, and Subterfuge tree for rogues. They give lots of support options. Particularily Battlemaster, I mean, 35% damage bonus on that horn of valor? Gimmeee.

Sabotage rogues would also work very well with a mostly physical damage dealing party. Sunder all the armors!

Didn't realize the PC gets to respec after the prologue. If that's the case, I think that's awesome.

My build for Bull

Haven't decided if I want him 2 Handed or Sword and Shield

If Two Handed:

-Might Blow + Upgrade

-Shield-Breaker

-Whirlwind + Upgrade

-Clear a Path

-Block and Slash

-Flow of Battle

-Pommel Strike

-Guard-Smasher (the only reason I am even touching the left side of the tree)

If Sword and Shield:

-Shield Wall + Chevalier's Step

-Payback Strike + Upgrade

-Bear Mauls the Wolves

-Warrior's Resolve

-Turn the Blade

-Turn the Bolt

-Shield Bash + Ring the Bell

Regardless of his Warrior Weapon Choice, he will be using the following skills in conjunction:

Battlemaster

-Grappling Chain + Give Them The Boot

-Crippling Blows

-Hamstring

-Deep Reserves

-War Horn + Break their Spirit

Vanguard

-Challenge

-Trust the Steel

-Cutting Words

-Bodyguard + Not Today

-Charging Bull + Upgrade

Reaver

-any extra points into Reaver

I for some reason headcanon Bull as being kind of a protector/bodyguard kind of friend for my Inquisitor, so he definitely needs the Bodyguard Talent.

That said, never realized how little I would have to dump into Reaver. I fear Cass will be the same with Templar.

Mapped: Bodyguard, Charging Bull, Reaver Focus, War Horn, Grappling Chain, Challenge, Shield Bash (if SS), Shield Wall (if SS), Mighty Blow (2H), Whirlwind (2H)

My Blackwall and Sera builds

Battlemaster

-Hamstring

-Deep Reserves

-War Horn + upgrade

I believe Grappling Chain is a requirement since it's at the beginning of the BM tree.

Yeah that sounds like a reasonable reading, but it's weird if it's the only ability in the game whose damage isn't x% of weapon damage...

Screw it, might as well do Blackwall too:

Sword and Shield

-Shield Wall + Chevalier's Step

-Payback Strike + Upgrade

-Bear Mauls the Wolves

-Warrior's Resolve

-Turn the Blade

-Turn the Bolt

-Shield Bash + Ring the Bell

Vanguard

-Challenge

-Trust the Steel

-Cutting Words

-Bodyguard + Not Today

Battlemaster

-Grappling Chain

Champion

-everything else

Mapped: Bodyguard, Shield Wall, Shield Bash, Champion Focus, Champion Active, Horn of Valor, Challenge, Grappling Chain

Depending on what Champion has to offer, I might invest entirely in that tree over Vanguard.

Edit: Decided to knock off a lot of Battlemaster to make room for more Champion talents.

That's basically how I feel as well.

I don't think it would be very satisfying if we get the same amount of abilities as in Inquisition - I think we'd need at least a good handful more and hopefully more variety.

I actually think Origins provides a good example of how it could have worked with Morrigan and Wynne (I keep using mages because they're easier than Warriors and Rogues because of the weapon restriction).

So Wynne's trees would have focused on healing and support with some elemental - in her case, probably earth spells.

Morrigan would have had lightning and ice with a strong presence of Entropy being the focus (plus shapeshifting).

But it's the weapon restrictions that keep getting me. :(

Disturbance of Spirit.....i wonder if it will affect Blessed Blades..?

I also wonder if the templar focus ability is a ability that grants bonuses when fighting against demons and casters.
