So just wanted to touch on this again since it was missed in the 1h vs 2h discussion. When you see a weapon dmg it's the DPS, not damage per hit. So when a 2H weapon has a higher damage then the 1h weapon, it doesn't matter how fast the 1h is attacking it's DPS (damage per second) is lower. Period. It's an avg dmg per second. Also, for DAI mauls are single target we learned few weeks back.
Mauls do higher dmg then sword/axe 2H weapons, and all the dmg is done to an individual target. So if you wanna play stupid high damage warrior that just crushes the living **** outa a SINGLE enemy like your oversized smashy rogue? Grab the biggest freakin' Maul you can find and crush the livin bajebus outa everyone in your path. Sword/Axes do less DPS then a maul, but can hit in those wider arcs on normal attacks. I'd imagine Whirlwind always hits in 360 though so mauls would probably be whirlwind kings.
They actually also did the same kinda thing with rogue 'daggers' (riiight... 'daggers'). They got 2 kinds, slashing ones that can actually hit multiple targets directly in front of the rogue (like 1H stuff being able to hit 2 targets). Or the more pointy stabby ones that can only hit an individual target. Same distinction of the 2H sword vs maul thing. Stabbers do more DPS but can only hit 1 target, other ones do a little less but can hit 2-3 enemies in your attack chain.
