I have to admit, this is... not really what I wanted out of a necromancer class. It's more like a creepy spirit shaman; there's no animation of the dead at all.

No permanent summon at all makes me question my wanting to play this class...

We need to know about the complete spells list of the Rift Mage.

Horror "terrifies" the target with fear, Blinding terror causes panick with terror. The wording is ambigious, but since they are all synonyms one could assume they all cause the same status effect.

Binding and manipulating spirits falls under a necromancers portfolio as does curses and fear spells in fantasy games.

This is what we have:

Thank you so much.

The Templar spec seems like a weird mix of damage buffs vs demons and party wide buffs. It seems the templar spec has been made more of a tanking spec.

If the damage buffs and Wrath of Heaven only deal damage vs demons the the templar spec is somewhat weaker than I'd hope. But at least with all the fade rifts will have to close, theres going to be plenty of demons to fight.

We don't know what the focus spell for Rift mage is, right? With Knight Enchanter getting healing and Necromancer getting haste, it seems like Rift Mage might end up getting the short end of the stick. Those are two pretty massive spells.

It's Firestorm.

It's Firestorm.

Almost surely the most powerful offensive spell in the game.

Same, there definitely will be plenty of demons. Plus, Wrath of Heaven hopefully will get a damage boost vs. demons in the upgrade.

Does anybody think a S&B reaver would make sense? Since you can "easily" stay at lower health with guard buildup. Or does the guard "healthbar" weaken the reaver bonus?

Exactly. It ought to wreck just about everything.

perhaps but i have always associate Necromancy with manipulation and binding a spirit to a physical shell, hence undead and skeletal minions to do your bidding.

Seem like the DA:I Necromancer is just a spirit summoner.

In other fantasy games, but curses and fear spells were part of basic nonspecialist spell trees in DA. The Necromancer is the most disingenuous "specialization" I've ever seen. It's like "Hi! After already stripping down the Spirit and Entropy schools in DA2, we've removed them completely in DAI! But that's not all, no; we've now crammed the two trees together, with mere fractions of their prior content, into a specialization that you can now only take one of! And you'll take and enjoy it, you little ****!"

I myself am trying to figure that out cause my Bull is gonna be a S&B and I don't know if I should invest in Reaver. Hell, I might just use some extra points to try and get the Rampage Focus at least for him.

Dunno you might be the first person who has to experiment with that.

But surely it still looks kinda cool though, right? Simulacrum, I think, seems to be the star of that tree, next to Blinding Terror.

We need to know about the complete spells list of the Rift Mage.

We know them, we just don't have their full descriptions.

Ability 1: Veilstrike

Ability 2: Stonefist

Ability 3: Pull of the Abyss

Focus Ability: Firestorm

You can build lots of guard with a two handed warrior as well though the abilities in the vanguard tree.

Now when the PC learns Necromancy, I'm curious of the responses the NPC and companions may give.

I mean, do we get an, "Holy Maker, you're a necromancer!" Perhaps just a side/stink eye from time to time.

Riding the Bog Unicorn will (should) totally add to my misadventures. I wonder if we earn a cut scene or two.

I think Haste could work really well w/ the Necromancer spec. I think you could use it kind of like Paralysis from DAO and DA2.

I want to try this: Use Haste to slow enemies down to a crawl so they can't escape Walking Bomb's blast radius.

I'll cast Flashfire w/ the Blistering Pain upgrade combined w/ Blinding Terror passive first for easy kills and then take advantage of the 20% damage boost from Power of the Dead to cast a kickass Walking Bomb spell to finish off everyone else. I really hope that works.

It worked in both DA:O and DA2 so why not?

Ok... so don't pick it then? Honestly trying to play a necromancer in DAO sucked actually since the undead you summon did not share abilities of the person you killed. Plus actually having to kill the person now we mark someone doing damage and force a spirit into a form of the marked person likeness. Plus using a spirit to make a copy of yourself when you die for a short period I am personally excited.

Plus according to the descriptions the methods of how you are doing the spell is different since with horror you are essentially summoning a demon since you are using a spirit of fear.

While in DAO its more of illusions attacking the mind. I am quite curious what the upgrades for spirit mark and walking bomb are going to be.

Definitely playing an elf mage, but still can't decide between KE, and Necro. KE looks all jedi-like, but necro sounds fun. I wish the pet wasn't temporary...

If this tree wasn't billing itself as the awesome and original Necromancer class while just recycling old spells that it can only recycle because they were ripped out of the mage's spell roster screaming and bleeding, I might be more inclined to be charitable to Simulacrum.

The worst goddessdamned part of this is that I'm still inclined to take Necromancer, because Knight-Enchanter clashes horribly with my playstyle and Rift Mage looks, if possible, even more boring and uninspired. At least Blinding Terror synchronizes well with Inferno.
