I take it the damage stated in those abilities only apply to demons so the Templar spec is rather limited in what it can do.

Tooltips are lacking in term of gameplay description. Winter Stillness mention reducing ability cooldown, but does not say by how much. Same goes for Shield Wall, it doesn't say how much guard is build up.

I'd say there descriptions are in contrast to the info read out. For instance Blessed Blade only shows 15% damage bonus, but it's description states it rallys everyone to do more dmg... and then even more vs demons.

"You rally all of your nearby allies to fight with greater strength, especially when facing demons." - That to me says there should be 2 bonus dmg effects. But we only see the 15%. So maybe it's 15%, with another 15% when it's against demons? I dunno, but the description is in opposition to the detail readout.

-edit-

Wrath of Heaven though that dmg is definitely only vs demons. Stuns vs everything.

Also yeah Azarhal, some of these description/readouts are lacking the info we need. Hopefully that's either updated or well, failing that wikis and testing will prove what things do eventually. Always an issue with RPG's, some skills just are confusing with out testing.

I'm a bit dissapointed we didn't get a DAO-ranger style fifth party member in the Necromancy tree like I was hoping, but still those skills and passives would go really well with my planned built (a mage of ice and fire). Still I was hoping the tree would just wow me and make my choice easier, because the KE does look very powerful and the Rift Mage with Firestorm also sounds very appealing. It's an embarassement of riches.

In the end I'll probably just go with what makes most sense storywise in the game.

Now thats interesting. The only question remaining is if you need to buy all the talents linked to a branching talent you want. Say a talent is connected to two previous talents, do you need to buy both previous talents to get the talent you want or is it an either or case? In DA 2 you had to buy each previous talent but for build diversity's sake I'm hoping you only need to buy one of them.

In other fantasy games, but curses and fear spells were part of basic nonspecialist spell trees in DA. The Necromancer is the most disingenuous "specialization" I've ever seen. It's like "Hi! After already stripping down the Spirit and Entropy schools in DA2, we've removed them completely in DAI! But that's not all, no; we've now crammed the two trees together, with mere fractions of their prior content, into a specialization that you can now only take one of! And you'll take and enjoy it, you little ****!"

Yep well its what they've done with Rift Mage as well. And as I said elsewhere given that the reviews coming in are not that favourable to the combat exactly why have they made all these changes to abilities instead of iterating from DA2?

And really Haste in necromancy? Thats just .................. I have no words.

So I know you don't need both talents connected to a passive, we've already seen that on a few occasions. What I don't know, for sure, is if we can go 'backwards' but I'm betting we can with what I've seen from the GUI and the lines lighting up in that manner. There's also no level or point requirement, that is if you want that bottom skill it's only really 3-4 points away.

-edit-

It sure as hell does Myrker, pincushion... for DAGGERS?! BAAHAHAHAHAHA

The meta game is real yall.

From the images I've seen, I believe it's either/or

Well, I sure hope I'm wrong and those Templar abilities do damage to all enemies and bonus damage to demons, that would make them a lot better.

So, in light of this wondrous joyful news... I present to you all my first character, Kurn. He's a Qunari (probably, maybe human if I just can't live with the hair) and he'll eventually become a Reaver.

Two-Hander (2, maybe 7 points late game)

Block and Slash - only skill I'll use from this tree, may get passives late game for 5 more points in but this skills maxed by lvl 3 at the latest

Vanguard (8-9 points, depends if I can ignore challenge)

War Cry

Charging Bull

All Passives

Weapon and Shield (7, whaaat? Aww yeah)

All the passives cause they're sexy for tanking

Reaver (10 points, ignoring 1 passive)

Ring of Pain

Devour

Dragon-Rage

Rampage

If I need all 9 in Vanguard due to requiring challenge, that is, if i can't 'go backwards' total skill points comes out to 28, if I can get enough bonus points and can break through lvl 30 I'll end up getting the 2-handed passives for another 5 points. That'll bring it to 33 total points required (or lvl 31 with +1 bonus point). Could do it all as a human at lvl 30 on the dot but I'm not worrying about it. The whole build can be done, with out the 2H passives by lvl 26 regardless of race.

2H Reaver Tank ftw!

ME:

@Mike_Laidlaw Do you need to have all prerequisite skills to gain a skill or does picking only one gives you access to the next skill?

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw 7m7 minutes ago

@wissenschaftXII Only one. Lets you choose your path towards the bottom as you like.

Thats a huge change from DA 2. SWEET! This plus the confirmation that passives are not weapon restricted open up a ton of build possibilities.

I don't think you can jump attack though I don't know if standing higher up on stairs would count.......it would make sense if it did though. LOL

This is so weird.

That is just the artistic wording, it might aswell read weapon, but they probably didn't expect people to mix daggers and archery passives.

Or they did expect it and they just went for flavorful text descriptions.

Thanks at Adhin and Wissenschaft 2.0.  Offensive S&B Reaver "tank" incoming. I loved offensive S&B in DA II too, way more fun than any other warrior build.

Oh I'm totally taking that passive on my Planescape playthrough where i'm modelling the inquisitor after Annah. Shes gonna be one deadly dagger assassin, rackin' up that pincushion dmg.

Iron Bulls gonna take place of the Nameless one btw, and he'll be modeled after Kurns build probably.

-edit-

Neuromancer : http://imgur.com/a/DzqMh - bottom of that has all the warrior base skill trees. Sadly no specialization stuff, would be nice if we had all the stuff on all that though.

My most memorable playthrough of DA 2 was with my S&B Beserker with Anders to haste me and Varric and Isabela to provide disorients. My Scatter one shotted groups of weaklings and the rest I auto attacked to death. Its a shockingly effective build and a lot of fun to play.

In DA: 2, S&B lack AoE damage so Reaver seems like a good fit since it adds self healing and AoE damage.

Well, I sure hope I'm wrong and those Templar abilities do damage to all enemies and bonus damage to demons, that would make them a lot better.

Compared to the other spec we currently have (Reaver, all the Mage ones and Artificer), Templars would be terribly useless if the damage listed there was against demons and they dealt even less to everything else. Artificer's Trick of the Trade is a better party bonus than Champion of the Just and Artificer is a damage focused spec, not a support one.

Although, maybe that is the case and it would explain why in all the video I've seen nobody put a single point into Cassandra's Templar tree. The basic Warrior trees are just much better than that spec. Champion is probably crap too if nobody plays it...

Oh, I forgot, one review also mentioned not being able to even go for specializations till lvl 11 this time around. Not sure if lvl 11 is what triggers the quest for em, or.. what. Also it was a review and we know how reliable some of them can be on accurate information like that. Hell one of the guys thinks the dwarves has scottish accents.

Anyway I think it's likely we can't get them till 11 either way, just not sure what happens after 11 other then it's quest related (at least for the player). Useful for planning skills out as you level if nothing else.

-edit-

I highly doubt Templar and Champion are crap. A lot of people use characters they like, and don't do it cause of the skills they have. It's one reason you see Iron bull in everything and not Blackwall. Also, I think Reviewers are just a hooorrrible thing to base any kind of gameplay on. Even if they're good players they have to rush like mad to get a review out and it ultimately leads them to not doing anything to effectively.

Either case Cassandra for me is getting all Templar. Each character is getting a lot in their specialization cause it's who they are, I just feel weird ignoring it.

Yep. I played with the identical team and my "tank" did ~ 70% of the overall damage. With the right gear he went completely bonkers.
