A few more:
What I'm pissed off about is Varric having daggers and yet the damn Focus didn't change. That guy had daggers on Varric (cause of the talents used) and Varric's Focus was still Hail of Arrows...
Which was my earlier point about Focus abilities. It could not be clearer (to me) that they were thrown together or changed rather late in development. Just like Firestorm was originally in Infero, I think that Hail of Arrows was originally archery. it irks me greatly.
Can someone help me with a quick question?
I see all these photos with the Specializations, however they have a party's member name on them (ex. Varric's artificer)
Does the player also have access to Artificer (as an example again)
if so is it a modifed version for the PC?
Im trying to build a character before launch, my plan was an archer rogue (never played rogue in my main world state) but with the most interesting party members (to me at least) being rogue and the fact i dont find any of the mage party members appealing (again my opinion. I'm considering a Winter/Necro or Winter/KE
I'm just a little confused how the trees and specs work.
Thank you
Yeah. Companions have a specific spec, but we can pick from all of them (but have to unlock them via quests, I believe).
Rex I love you! You need to be a romance option for DA4. Champion is beautiful absolutely beautiful. Line in the Sand looks amazing since I'll be able to block people even without taunting them depending on the enviroment. I'm definetely going to have alot of Antivan Fires on me at all times.
Unyielding is awesome just in case something goes wrong & with a cooldown of 60 seconds that is icing on the cake. (Pity you can't have Unyielding and be a Reaver lol)
Resilence doesn't actually appeal to be since it has such a low chance to proc but with the +3 Constitution and that fact that it is a prequisite for unyielding I'll have to grab it.
Walking Fortress is the OH $*** button that any tank would want but the question that I have is that will it be useful & what abilities would you sacrifice for it. I'll have to think about it. I wonder what the upgrade does to this skill
Bulwark is another guard bonus passive. I wonder if picking both of them is worth it or would it be better to take just one. I'm leaning towards the former right now but I'll think about it more when I type up my tank build later.
Counterstrike is interesting since it is another war cry with a counter built in but it doesn't say what the range of the taunt is. I'm not sold on this just yet.
Adamant is yet another armor passive.
To the Death is interesting, really interesting. If you have good aggro management & can keep your party members safe this could be a great skill but one mistake depending on how long this increase in damage keeps going could spell doom for you. I like this skill as a tank I like control but I love letting chaos reign occasionally. The upgrade to this skill could possibly make this safer to use.
I'm so happy right now. Not only does the Iron Bull ask me if I want to ride the bull & Cassandra....mmmmmmmmm but I have my own tanking tree this time. Nope I'm not joining some retarded dragon cult & templar.....may the void take you. I'm a Champion dammit & you shall not pass....literally!
On paper Necro looks to be top spec pour moi. Followed by Reaver/Champion - Assassin/Artificer - Tempest looks disappointing but I'm betting in action it's quite fun.
Did we not get the assassin focus?
So do we know how specs are unlocked? What would he need to do to get Rift Mage to open up on Solas?
Did we not get the assassin focus?
DAMMIT. THAT'S THE SECOND TIME I HAVE DONE THAT. Sorry!
Well finally we have all the trees! Thanks everyone
Definitely going for Winter + Spirit + Knight Enchanter for my first playthrough
Why spirit though, Knight Enchanter already generate barrier through doing damage.
To the Death, Unyielding and Walking Fortress seem like a good way to kill a dragon......

He said that it might have something to do with how he never used (or perhaps even interacted with?) Solas after the first hour. I didn't watch much else, so he might have explained more later.

To the Death is considered a taunt & as far as we know dragons are immune to taunts sadly.

Damn, you make a good point, had overlooked that. Still, those skills will allow for some interesting combinations. And that particular one may not kill dragons, but anything not immune to taunt is still game.

Definetly, I just hope that dragons are the only creatures with that immunity otherwise I'm really going to get annoyed. I am a tad disappointed that bravery isn't a skill of any kind. Hopefully there is a way for me to get taunt immune mobs to focus on my tank.
I've been following this thread for a bit now, but I want to say than you Rex for all your work compiling these!

I'll def second that! Well done Ser!
How will Thousand Cuts work with an Archery-based Tempest? Especially considering Sera has been heavily marketed as an archer...

I'm with you, Focus abilities were obviously shoehorned into the specs where they were probably in the base trees for much of development. My guess is that they unbalanced the game.
Other evidence? Flask of Lightning in Tempest has a very Haste-like effect. Haste was probably in Storm. (Just like in those old "Entropy" trees...)
I don't think dragons universally are immune to taunt. I'm pretty sure I've seen some with "taunted" when viewed through tactical cam.
They're immune to complete hard CC like frozen or paralysis though.
Looks like more Reaver stuff got changed from past stuff huh? lol. Devour's dmg was heavily scaled down and now it always leechs life. Just leechs more when in Ring of Pain. Now that makes WAAAY more sense. I mean full heal, at base and only in ring of pain? That sounded a bit crazy. Now, at base, it's 20% your missing health or 60% of your missing health when in ring of pain... not bad. That also means devours more worth using as it comes up instead of waiting for the last minute like thing.
Assassin... I like the new Marked for Death. Racks up damage while it's on then on expire (or if you trigger it early) does all that dmg in a singular hit. Really liking the idea of that, it's like a rogue version of walking bomb.
While rogue trees seem like great support and dps, neither seem as critical as having a well built KE or CHAMP in your party. Those things look straight up beastly.
Not what I was expecting but I'm totally not complaining!
Man, Champion has a passive identical to a Vanguard passive. That's +50% bonus guard combined, that's pretty crazy. Definitely not entirely what I was expecting but I can make it work on my Mazzy character...then again maybe I should make her a Templar. Still not 100% sure on that one.
....interesting.
