Yeah, I think I'd like it.
Mapped slots would be: Spirit Blade, Fade step, Fade cloak, Barrier, Resurgence/MotR, Energy Barrage, Static Cage (forgot about it :lol:), and Immolate/Winter's Grasp (more the Former, since it'll allow me To be prepared Against every elemental weaknesses/resistance).

I think that's a good idea, trying to cover all the basic elements.

Unless you have two Mages in your party then specializing each in different elements would work too.

I want Fade cloak, but is it possible to take the talent from behind? Chaotic focus works on fire spells. I have only one.
I like my Thunder build. Some passives adds more protection in close combat.

I don't think KE's problem is going to be "needs moar protection!"  KE will be looking to the other elemental trees to fill out its dps.  That's where inferno shines.

Yes, but I'll Personally change the party members a lot because I like all of them, and it's possible that sometimes I'll be the only mage in the party.

KE will be looking to the other elemental trees to fill out its dps.  

 

Arcane blade has the highest DPS, out of all the spells / schools, it doesn't have a cooldown, and you can hit about 2 times ( 600% weapon damage ) in the same amount of time it takes to cast a regular spell + it does huge extra damage to all defense layers.

That makes sense. I like to have constant party which will be Blackwall, Dorian and Sera for my KE play-through so i like to build the party to cover all the bases.

Ok, after the game goes live I suppose we can have a couple of tests where one KE spams Spirit Blade while the other drops an immolate/fire mine for the damage boost from Chaotic Focus (consuming 50% of their barrier) and then proceeds to spam Spirit Blade (earning all that barrier back) all the while the DoTs from the fire spells were also ticking on the mob.  Bonus damage included if there are multiple enemies in the area as both fire spells are AoE while it's unclear how many targets can be hit by Spirit Blade.  At best it's a small cone in front of the player, at worst single target.

Inferno + Necromancer = DOT King 

 

Dabble in winter and spirit as well.

Grab winters grasp and upgrade + Winter stillness passive for mana regen.

Grab barrier and its upgrade for some utilty and peaceful aura to reduce threat generation.

Actually yes you are right, they dot would make the overall DPS better. But all the other schools besides fire would make the dps lower than spamming arcane blade. Wouldn't go for the fire mine though, take 3 seconds to prime, which is tons of dps time, unless you prime pre-fight. Immolate however is fast, so that would be better. I'm taking other damaging spells only for the range it provides in situations when the target is not reachable for melee, like when a dragon is sitting on the cliff breathing fire, and you can hit in only with range, and only spells with damage above 300% would make sense to take.

Any idea on what abilities cause knockdown? Presumably veil strike and stonefist do, and maybe spike trap. Mighty blow looks a bit dubiously situational right now.

4 Warriors chaining Mighty blow. More serious note, Archer also has skills that knock down. I believe sleep also counts.

In this video, starting around 6:00, Mike Laidlaw says Spirit Blade hits all enemies along its arc.  That arc is pretty big.  ;)

Fire Mine, when upgraded, throws an enemy into the air when detonated.

Shield bash, Charging Bull, Grappling chain with upgrade, Fire Mine with upgrade.

Building an Inferno/Spirit Necromancer. Should Fear & Panic be interchangable that will work out well with the synergy between the skill tree passives..

 

Necro (fear-panic) Inferno (barrier) Spirit

 

Otherwise have a Winter build in cold storage.

Vanguard Is pretty much all amazing for tanking. Grappling chain in battlemaster could also be useful to a tank and the hamstring passive could also be useful for slowing certain enemies going after squishies.
