You may want to rethink that, especially with the 8 ability limit.

Instead: Energy Barrage (top of Storm tree) deals damage by which staff type you have equipped. Just carry a few staves and you can easily adjust to the mobs in the area.

Why should I? It works perfectly well with me.

I've been rethinking my mage and archer builds. I guess I'm under construction.

Does anyone know of a video where you can see Knockout Dust being used? I'm trying to figure out how it functions in comparison to Knockout Bomb.

My problem was I usually play as a non-specialized mage. So here is my build before I decided I wanted to specialize.

Inferno - 8 (Immolate + , Fire Mine+, Wall of Fire, Flashpoint, Pyromancer, Clean Burn).

Winter -  8 (Winter Grasp +, Fade Step, Ice Mine+ , Mana Surge, Winter Stillness, Frost Mastery).

Storm - 8 (Chain Lightning +, Energy Barrage, Static Cage, Stormbringer, Gathering Storm, Conductive Current, Static Charge).

Spirit - 8 (Barrier, Dispel +, Mind Blast, Revival , Peaceful Aura, , Rejuvenating Barrier, Strength of Spirits).

The "+" symbol represents upgraded abilities. Bolds represent spells. Italics represent passives.

Yes, it totals up to 32 abilities but I am very sure that we can get extra skill points.

The question is how do I fit Rift Mage in all this ?

Pick a base tree to specialize in alongside riftmage and cut the others down to 3 - 5 points.

Nah, none that I'm aware. I definitely want to know the difference as well.

Nice Builds. I'm branching for a few passives. The current mentality why take a skill tree if I don't get most out of all the passives in the tree and powerful upgrades?

Near full Pyro / Necro for flexibility - Storm/Winter Mana/Damage passives. No Barrier/Kills Heal. +Support Mage

Wasn't going to play human until I realized how tight it could be for skill points. Wonder how many deals with demons & strange potions we'd have to drink to get enough to complete our builds.

You do not have to be human. You can invest perks in the Inquisition advisers specialty. Go deep enough and you can get free point from all three of them I think.

This does not include elixirs or tomes we might find. Suffice to say you can get +2 skill points minimum without much trouble.

I think I am sticking with the non-specialized build and focus heavily on specializations for my mage followers.

A question for the skill gurus.... what is the "shocked" effect that I see on some of the Storm abilities?  It doesn't seem to be the paralyzed effect... at least I'm pretty sure enemies are not paralyzed for 8 seconds after you use Chain Lightning.  Just curious.

It reduces the enemies elemental resistances for a short time.

Everything I've seen or watched makes mages the power class.  The control abilities coupled with some of the best if not the best damage in the game...   dunno,  seems a tad unbalanced to me.

Mages are suppose to be strong. They're feared for a reason.

With that said, it really seems like rogue classes unleash massive amount of single target dps. Warrior may be lacking in damage in comparison, but they can at least take hits in comparison to mages. Mages are great for CC and aoe damage, but once their abilities are on cooldown or they're short mana, their dps drops.

Does anyone have any speculation on whether or not the Fighting Dirty and Explosive Toxin rogue sabotage tree passives will affect the consumable poison weapon coatings as well?

Are you asking whether it will stack, or will it consume other poisons you have with you?

I'm asking whether the duration and toxic cloud on enemy death passive bonuses will still occur when just a consumable poison potion is used in combat and not the poisoned weapons ability.

Ok so I've totally edited my build. I'm just going to go for Rift mage (oddly enough, I figured that would have been my last pick..but it reminds me of force mage from DA2).

Inferno Tree:

  • Immolate + upgrade (I couldn't find picture, but it increased dot if I remember correctly)
  • Flashfire + upgrade (couldn't find upgrade pic, this point might be placed elsewhere)
  • Flashpoint
  • Pyromancer
  • Clean Burn

Spirit:

  • Barrier
  • Peaceful Aura

Storm:

  • Chain Lightning + arcing surge
  • Lightning Bolt
  • Gathering Storm
  • Energy Barrage
  • Conductive Current
  • Static Cage + upgrade (couldn't find upgrade pic, this point might be placed elsewhere)

Rift Mage:

  • Veil Strike + punching down
  • Stone Fist + upgrade (couldn't find the pic, this point might be place elsewhere)
  • Restorative Veil
  • Encircling Veil
  • Smothering Veil
  • Twisting Veil
  • Pull of the Abyss + upgrade (couldn't find pic, this point might be place elsewhere)
  • Firestorm

-----

My skillset will probably be:

1. Immolate

2. Flashfire

3. Chain Lightning

4. Static Cage

5. Veil Strike

6. Stone Fist

7. Pull of the Abyss

8. Firestorm

I felt like posting my build since it seems like there are going to be SO many winter/KE mages. (I got a little sick of hearing about how many there were going to be...lol - there needs to be more than winter! Nothing wrong with y'all that want to go that route) anyway, I'm excited about this build.

I've got three passives that reduce spell cooldown. Flashpoint (cd reduction upon crit), Clean burn (cd reduction upon casting), and Gathering storm (cd reduction upon attack).

I'm hoping the inferno tree will do massive damage - that, coupled with the strength behind Rift tree, is going to make casting spells fun. I'll group them all together (either by pull of the abyss or static cage..or both), use veil strike so they're all weakened, then use immolate/chain lightning to do massive damage. Stone fist whoever is left. I'm hoping it'll work out.

Barrier will be used by another mage. I'm just taking it for the threat reduction passive..I imagine I'll get a lot of it - but then again I have a lot of cc at my disposal, so maybe I won't need it.

I cant freakin wait for this game...

Gameplay-wise, yes. If you've seen videos of Sera gameplay, or DD rogue gameplay, you'd see they do a lot of damage as well. It just gets overshadowed by the ton of mage gameplay videos (and their cc potential..but they're suppose to be cc focused now that there's no healing).

It should, yes. Nothing in the description implies it has to be from an ability, just poisoned in general.
