so do the Focus abilities actually take up one of the 8 ability slots or do they get assigned to their own button?

They take up one of the slots, I believe.

One more rather esoteric question. This one is in regards to the Assassin's focus ability Cloak of Shadows. I know the ability give the entire party perma-stealth for the duration based on the focus tier.
Now what I'm wondering is this the stealth that's given from the subterfuge tree. At first the focus ability does not seem that strong but if this is the case then that means the entire party would not only have 3 to 9 seconds attacking with no retaliation but as well as they would all receive a 100% damage bonus as per the stealth skill for the entire duration.
I hope this is the case (though I won't get my hopes up) because in that regard it all of a sudden puts it, relatively, on par with every other focus skill we've seen thus far.

That's the only way that would be a worthy Focus ability. Rift Mages 55 Fireballs of doom would only really be equal if Assassins get 9 sec of invulnerability (invisible means can't be attacked), plus 100% damage bonus for each.

I'm really hoping it does because it just seems odd for their focus ability at tier one to be 3 seconds of momentary stealth for everyone (not long enough to even do much) while other tier one abilities start out strong out of the gate and only get stronger. Again, I'm not counting on it because it is an assumption of mechanics but I would love clarification.

I somehow doubt that is how it works, but it might. If it does it still sucks that it requires taking points in another tree to be effective. Either way I don't think it will compare to the damage of the rift mage spell, or to Thousand Cuts (which is my favorite of all the focus abilities).

Alone, no.
No where near in fact.
However if your tempest and rift mage get the 100% damage increase for 9 seconds and use Thousand Cuts and Firestorm... well I'll let you enjoy that thought.

And as long as we are imagining that...well imagine if poisoned weapons works on Thousand Cuts.

I think poisoned only applies a 25% Weapon Damage bonus to your attacks (additive), not a 25% damage boost. So it probably does work with Thousand Cuts, but only adds a little bit of extra damage.

Can I get everyone's opinion of my 2-handed Reaver build? I bolded the perks I tentatively have in my 8 action slots at end game. Anyone have any ideas of how I can make it better? Certain perks that I'm not including end game that people think I definitely should include? Thanks.

Looks pretty good. It looks very solid, focused heavily on dealing damage.

Just to be clear, Blood Frenzy and Scenting Blood are passives. The build looks good otherwise.

I'm really on the fence about party composition. Do you guys think a double-tank setup with one of them focusing a little bit more on utility and buffing, would work well? Considering the sometimes very large and scattered enemy groups, I can certainly see some advantages. Not to mention ping pong aggro swapping in boss fights.
I've broken my self-inflicted gameplay hiatus and watched some recent videos and I absolutely detest the two-handed animations - still want to go with a warrior and have Cass in my party, though. ;/

I think it would be okay especially if you have one who specializes in Champion and the other either Reaver or Templar. One being a damage dealer and the other damage mitigator.

Well, it seems like...a waste of points in some areas? You have some actives for example War Horn which are at the bottom of the tree, but you don't want to use them (or do you?). Or why get upgrades to abilities you're not slotting? So why not trade them in for possible passives in other trees? For example, it'd only take two points to get to Warrior's Resolve or Bear Mauls the Wolves in the Sword & Shield tree. And those would add more functionality/survivability to your warrior even if you waste a point.

Considering Cass is a Templar, I wanted to go with Templar/Reaver or Templar x2 - I think Champion is a bit too much on the tanky side if I'm already using two S&S warriors.
Anyone else? The rest of the group would consist of Varric/Sera and Dorian/Vivienne.

Well, I think Cass's Templar would go well paired with another Templar perhaps. Sword and Board is not particularly my area of expertise, but I could maybe see Champion meshing well with her as well.

Get ready for dat revised-revised build y'all! Second revision thanks to all the Specialization info we've gotten over the past week. Enjoy, and please provide your inputs.
Also, realize that I tried to make sure everyone caps at 24. I don't want to take things like "Inquisition Perks" or "Human Extra Ability" or "Amulet that gives extra ability" into consideration. These are points from straight leveling up. Any extra points will be distributed as seen fit. What I post here are the ESSENTIALS.

Thanks for the advice! Yes, I meant to "bold" War Horns initially. I went back and fixed my post. Warrior's resolve looks great. In all honesty, I didn't pay much attention to the sword and shield talents as I am 2 handed, but there actually are some useful perks in it. Thanks
