Just look at this image from the OP. You can see that despite having Hook and Tackle he cannot choose Looks Like it Hurt as it isn't highlighted like Caltrops is.

What're you talking about...no she doesn't...

She didn't have anything invested into Sabotage.

I actually wouldn't take her advice on some things she mentions. She says stealth and its upgrade: lost in shadow is the only abilities worth taking in subterfuge, when abilities like shadow strike and knockout power can work really well together, given that shadow strike grants a combo bonus to incapacitated foes. She also says not to take full draw because it's only effective against enemy's with full heath. I doubt that true because the ability does 800% weapon damage no matter what. I bet this ability is still very effective without its additional 800% bonus damage. Heck it's the strongest ability on the archer tree. Plus using leaping shot's upgrade: rolling draw before you use full draw, would grant you an additional 200% of weapon damage if leaping shot hits. Which means even if your opponent is not at full heath you are looking at about 1000% weapon damage.

Me neither. I've been following LadyInsanity since the Skyrim days, she's amazing for her info vids but I definitely don't take her advice on things related to combat. She's not exactly skilled at the games she covers. Not to be offensive, just what I've seen.

I love Ashe to death when it comes to lore but even without the game in my hands I immediately dismissed those combat advice videos. When I heard that stealth is useless for DW rogues I stopped watching immediately.

So moar builds ! This is one of my, if not my earliest builds for DAI, back when I thought I would play as a non-specialized mage.

Early Game Build (Level 10)

Spirit - 3 (Barrier, Dispel, Peaceful Aura)

Storm - 4(Chain Lightning, Static Cage, Stormbringer, Gathering Storm)

Inferno - 1 (Immolate).

Winter - 2 (Winter's Grasp, Fade Step).

Hotbar - Immolate, Chain Lightning, Static Cage, Winter's Grasp, Fade Step, Barrier, Dispel, Mark of the Rift.

Mid Game Build (Level 15)

Spirit - 3 (Barrier, Dispel, Peaceful Aura)

Storm - 6 (Chain Lightning, Static Cage, Stormbringer, Gathering Storm, Conductive Current, Static Charge).

Inferno - 1 (Immolate).

Winter - 5 (Winter's Grasp, Fade Step, Wall of Ice, Blizzard, Ice Armor).

Hotbar - Immolate, Chain Lightning, Static Cage, Winter's Grasp, Blizzard, Barrier, Dispel, Mark of the Rift.

End Game Build (Level 25).

Spirit - 6 (Barrier, Dispel upgraded, Peaceful Aura, Guardian Spirit, Rejuvenating Barrier)

Storm - 8 (Chain Lightning, Static Cage, Stormbringer, Gathering Storm, Conductive Current, Static Charge).

Inferno - 7 (Flashfire, Immolate, Flashpoint, Clean Burn, Pyromancer).

Winter - 9 (Winter's Grasp, Fade Step, Wall of Ice, Blizzard, Mana Surge, Winter Stillness, Ice Armor, Frost Mastery).

Hotbar - Flashfire, Immolate, Chain Lightning, Static Cage, Winter's Grasp, Blizzard, Barrier, Dispel.

Full Build (Level 30/Level Limit).

Spirit - 6 (Barrier, Dispel upgraded, Peaceful Aura, Guardian Spirit, Rejuvenating Barrier)

Storm - 8 (Chain Lightning upgraded, Static Cage upgraded, Stormbringer, Gathering Storm, Conductive Current, Static Charge).

Inferno - 7 (Flashfire Upgraded, Immolate upgraded, Flashpoint, Clean Burn, Pyromancer).

Winter - 9 (Winter's Grasp, Fade Step, Wall of Ice, Blizzard upgraded, Mana Surge, Winter Stillness, Ice Armor, Frost Mastery).

Hotbar - Flashfire, Immolate, Chain Lightning, Static Cage. Winter's Grasp, Blizzard, Barrier, Dispel.

I decided to have one single target damage ability and one hard hitting AOE ability for each element.

For fire, Flashfire is the single target spell and Immolate is the AOE spell. I could have used Fire Mine here but I decided to go with Flashfire since with the investment in Pyromancer passive I can make use of the Fear effect.

For ice, base Winter's Grasp is the single target spell and Blizzard is the AOE spell. I think using an upgraded Fade Step for single target damage ability for a pure mage is risky because pure mages are not as survivable as a Necromancer with Death Syphon or Knight Enchanter with regenerating barriers and Resurgence. Plus Blizzard works beautifully with Static Cage.

For shock, the only single target lightning spell in that tree is Lightning Bolt which does not seem very useful to me. Energy Barrage does not count since it takes on the damage of your staff. So I decided to go with Chain Lightning and Static Cage since the goal is to have Static Cage to trap enemies in place for you to unleash AOE hell on them.

For spirit, I decided to invest on the left side of the tree and go with Dispel. Investing in the right side and taking Mind Blast is equally valid provided you have another mage on the team with Dispel since Dispel is a very useful spell. However, if you managed to spec one of your warrior followers to be a beast in terms of aggro drawing, then you do not need Mind Blast.

This pure mage build is hard simply because it takes a very long time for you to reach its full potential and it relies on you having to hunt down for spare skill points via tomes or elixirs.

It is as if Bioware designed the base trees in such a way to necessitate the player to pick a specialization because with a specialization you can reach your potential as a Knight Enchanter or Necromancer much earlier.

However, if anyone wants a non-specialized mage build, here you go. Just be sure to hunt down those extra skill points. However, if you can indeed get all the points needed, you will be an insane powerhouse.

So I have a question. Do we know if Focus does anything outside of being expended for special abilities?

The way they were talking about it, it seems like it would have other beneficial effects but it doesn't seem too clear.

Yeah, I was similarly bewildered. I mean, useless. I'd argue it's better for DW rogues than Ranged Rogues.

Question: Have we seen the upgrade to Stonefist?

No we haven't. Speaking of Stonefist and Rift Mage, I am really stumped by the Rift Mage specialization. It seems to be very incoherent and lacks proper synergy.

How does it lack synergy...? Pull of the abyss into upgraded veilstrike means a bunch of enemies weakened which benefits from three of the four rift mage passives. Then hit them with stonefist or something...

It's actually super coherent from a synergistic standpoint.

Synergy with?
It has CC with pull of the abyss( who are then subject to mine spells or immolate), debuff in veilstrike, DPS in stonefist which can used to shatter frozen enemies, ....the inferno passive MIGHT boost firestorms damage.

It may seem boring, especially in comparison to Knight enchanter and Necromancer, but it is not without its uses.

Well I want to make a build of something like this

1) Veilstrike.

2) Stonefist.

3) Pull of the Abyss.

4) Immolate.

5) Winter's Grasp.

6) Chain Lightning

7) Barrier.

8 ) Dispel / Firestorm.

Problem :- Not enough skill points... :crying:

I was just looking at challenge & war cry a minute ago and I just realized that the taunt (debuff?) is active only for 8 seconds & 4 seconds respectively. I've seen videos where mobs stay on the tank longer than that but it still worries me a bit.

You can still build aggro during the time they're taunted. There are also items which enhance the duration of those abilities.

You'll pretty much hold their aggro while you attack them. If taunt them and leave them alone, they'll probably disengage.

I just wish bravery was a passive or something but I'll work with what I have. In non tanking news this assassin tree, with subterfuge & daggers is looking sexy. Why in the void is knockout powder in both the subterfuge & assassin tree lol? Hopefully the upgrades are different.

Yeah that irritated me as well. The whole point of a specialization is to be..well specialized. It's not special if you can get the same thing in a more universal tree, ya know?

The upgrades should definitely be different. Maybe Knockout Bomb in the Assassin tree's upgrade will include a DoT effect? Perhaps bonus damage to flanking a sleeping enemy?

Here is my Necromancer build.

1)Flashfire with its fear compliments the Horror and its panic goes along really well, there is great synergy there.

Flashfire is the one spell that really led me to be interested in that tree and as you say synergizes well with Necro but to be honest i'm concerned that it's high mana cost might see it as a great skill in theory that may not be as practical in gameplay.

I'm not saying it couldn't be used in a build but it's a skill taking up 1 spot in an only 8 skill bar and if it isn't being used often enough it might be a bit wasted and its real strength not being fully utilized. At 65 mana i don't think you could use it as often as it needs to be used.

Just me thinking out loud and i hope i am wrong as it is such a great skill imo.

I personally like how certain passives from "conflicting trees" actually complementing each other, as it in MP characters trees. If we take archer from MP he is actually example how one could focus within rogue skills. And this means, heck, having Sneak Attack even for ranged character like Varric / Artificer Quiz is really necessary.

The second thing is example how you can create high mobility rogue character within the party who will debuff targets greatly. Mobility + Debuff Power + Flanking power and Easy to Miss = great tactical value.

and the hook from Sabotage is vital skill for characters like melee tempest.

I do not actually think Lady Insanity is  right in her vid. Heck, she is completely wrong. Subrefuge only with Archery? Sabotage only with melee? Sorry, lady, i respect you, but those things are not correct, completely.

It seems like each class starts with 2 skills. Do we know what those two starting skills are for each class? I specifically want to know what the two starting skills for two handed warriors are so I can better plan my build.

It isn't really important. After the prologue ends you can buy a respec amulet for one gold which is basically giving it away.
