It isn't really important. Immediately after the end of prologue you can buy a respec amulet for one gold which is basically giving it away.

Respec potions for one gold? Sweet! I'd still like to know our starting skills anyway. Might not even need to use a respec potion.

Ok, after finding a video of someone starting with a 2 handed warrior, I learned the two starting skills are Mighty Blow and Warcry which is perfect. Allows me to pick bulls run at first level up. Then I can run over enemies to knock them down so I can get bonus damage from Mighty Blow.

I am building my Dual Weapon Tempest Rogue. Is Knockout Powder in the Subterfuge skill tree any good ? Or should I invest in something like Throwing Knives ?

Awesome. What is your planned build?

I had one ready for storm knight enchanter but now I'm rooting for templar. I'm waiting for all the updates for a final build thought

I plan on taking Knockout Powder on my DW rogue.  The aoe is very sizeable (as large as they get in this game, I think) and the party can combo off of the affected enemies or just leave them sleeping for a good while.  With the Mercy Killing passive it just becomes all the better as you auto-crit sleeping enemies.  Seems like it will be a great CC or damage tool, depending on what you want for the situation.

I think it will be very good especially if you pair it with shadow strike. Knockout powder > stealth > shadow strike. If you use shadow against an incapacitated enemy (i.e an enemy effected by knockout powder) you're granted a combo bonus, plus you'll acquire a stealth damage bonus as well. Not only that it will make a great tactical move, especially when you want to position behind an enemy with ease.

Knockout powder is not an AOE ability, it only effects a single enemy. Knock out bomb is the AOE ability, which is found is the assassin spec tree not the subterfuge tree.

Tempest is more about stacking crit and crit effects due ability to perform much more frequent damage crit ability or autoattack with freeze/lightning/fire elexiers. I think you better hunt for powerful passives and stacking things that apply stacking effects from sabotage and DW, and majority of subrefuge.

Yeah, Knockout Powder is weird.

Here is its description for the base skill and its upgrade.

Knockout Powder :- You throw a handful of dosed dust onto an enemy's face, putting them to sleep for a short time.

Duration:- 10 seconds

Area of Effect:- 6 meters

Cooldown:- 20 seconds

Cost:- 35 stamina

Deep Sleep:- Enemies affected by Knockout Powder sleep longer and are slow to wake up after being damaged.

Duration Bonus:- 10 seconds

Damaged Sleep Bonus:- 3 seconds.

So if Knockout Powder just affects one target, then why is there an Area of Effect ? If Knockout Powder has an Area of Effect, why does the ability description say "an enemy's face" ?

Tis' most confusing.

Knockout Powder reads "Area of Effect: 6 meters" implying that it is a placed AoE, and you're saying that this is not the case?  That doesn't sound right at all.

Huh? I'm not speccing Tempest

EDIT: Oh right for the guy who wanted it for his Tempest rogue.  Yeah I overlooked that and you might be right.

You know what's really strange Knock out bomb does not list an AOE effect but in the spec vid it clearly has one.

Probably because Knockout Bomb isn't a placed AOE, which seems to be what that particular descriptor is used to indicate.  You just target an enemy and throw it directly at them, then it explodes in an area around that enemy on impact.  It does at least note that it has an area effect in the text description.

I'm thinking Bomb might have a larger AOE to compensate for not being able to place it.  That or its upgrade may have a longer duration, or some other resource reduction.

Also, knockout bomb's upgrade will probably do something more assassiny that sleep powder's upgrade? But we don't know that yet.

I think both will have an AOE perhaps Knockout Bomb's upgrade does something else as well.

By the way, any suggestion for a Tempest build ?

Sorry I have no idea, tempest really doesn't stand out to me the way assassin does so I haven't really looked at the tree at all.

I kind of hope the assassins sleep ability either poisons or fears enemies upon recovery. Seems to fit with the spec.
