Okay, I officially don't remember DA2 at all.
lol... well maybe it was added in a patch? Maybe a mod you use removed it? I dunno... ![]()

There was a mission where a woman in the Hanged Man asked you to eavesdrop on some sailors late at night... In order to earn the bonus, you had to listen to the whole meeting, so I always entered stealth before getting near them. It was definitely possible, although it rarely had any applications outside of combat...
edit: Since I had nothing better to do I tested this out... Varric was able to enter stealth in the Viscount's Keep during the day.

You could do that without Stealth as well. Just hide up above the 'conspirators' and listen until the dialogue reaches the point where combat auto initiates.

Hahaha, yeah, but then you'd better hope that you had already taken care of the thugs that spawn up top there. I almost never do, and then remember at the last second. The result? A vicious double battle where at least one character usually dies.

Tbh I always had a feeling that the stealth skill wouldn't matter and that I'd probably need to stand right next to them in order to fail, but I always played in character when possible. Standing on that walkway without being invisible didn't feel right, so I always told my team to hold position and sent Isabela in stealth mode.

I think this quest depends on whether you imported a save with Awakening.

Whoops... I thought he was talking about stealth during combat... yeah, the quest itself is given based on something that happens in Ameranthine. It's also available for the "No Compromise" default origin. My bad.
That would do it.I think this quest depends on whether you imported a save with Awakening.
So i guess "guard" is what makes the characters health look armored like we have seen in various gameplay videos. Just wonder what it actually does
I don't know why no one quoted you, but that might very well be the case! Good eye.
On the other hand... guard may very well just be damage reduction... for a specific time (say, one battle?)
But i like your idea better.
for example: taunt (or war cry or whatever it's called) increases your guard 20%per caught enemy.
If you taunt 2 enemies, you'll have 40% additional timed health for the battle (like barrier), if you taunt 5 enemies, 100%.
I can actually see this working very well together in combination with barrier! Thinking of it like this, it makes more and more sense to not have a healer. And it also fits in their 'preparation' style of playing.
Also, about combo's: Yeah, the impact and eldritch detonator are cool, but I'm wondering... Can I do tremor, followed up by whirlwind, and still do combo's? Or is it only cross-class? Do I need to do tremor, and then follow up with and eldritch only? THAT is what I want to know ![]()
It's unlikely but I can't help but want the start ability to be different for each origin and it's a freebie not tying you to a specific tree e.g. spirit bolt for the dalish mage, arcane bolt for the human mage and force/telekinetic bolt for the qunari mage.
For obvious reasons talents can't be tailed to a character's origins but a slight acknowledgement of these characters having very different backgrounds and training would be nice.
I just had a thought.
What if Cole was accidently banished to the Fade when the inquisitor uses their mark of the rift ability?
Quite ironic. You need Cole in the first place to build up enough Focus for you to banish him.... ![]()

Stealth skill mattering? Not when you have all those script triggers nullifying any attempt to get the drop on something. Gotta love the ones that teleport the party for the obligatory cinematic villain monologue.

Considering the various limitations on the acquisition and use of skills, I think it would be best if we could choose our initial skill during character creation... the way it was in DA:O, but instead of having a mandatory point in some ability we may not want, we get to spend the first point.

I HATED that in origins. You'd have to run around with a point in S&S for the duration of the game unitl you coudl respec...
I hope they don't do anything like that in DAI, neither for quizzy, nor the companions.
This is sort of ability-related, but also an art point, but I just noticed something when playing DA:O.
The icon for the Inferno tree is the same that was on the Templar shields in DA:O.

and

Not going to lie, pretty excited about the roles we have in this game. We still don't know anything about attributes or tactics, but if their at all as dynamic as the skill trees I think we're in for a real treat. Because of the action orientedness of the gameplay, I think the tactics have a crazy large amount of potential. Lets hope they get it right.

Agreed about initial skills & pre-assigned abilities. Especially companions! A couple of them I'd hurry to recruit ASAP at the risk of them leveling on their own. xD
I liked that, i.e the Warden, Wynne (even Anders) as Circle mages, started out with Arcane Bolt while Morrigan did not, as she was "taught a different path" (so I headcanon'ed:P both Velanna and Merrill also had Arcane Bolt. Maybe just Morrigan, then? lol Oh, well).
Anyways. The point being, I think small things like that can be a nice touch and add flavor. For DA:I, would be cool if that one starting ability was slightly different (even if just the name and/or cosmetically, sFX/animation) nothing big, just a little something something which reflected an Inquisitor's different race/background to another of the same class. ![]()
You know, I just realized that as long as we have easy access to the Maker's Sigh, I don't actually mind having a point spent for me. I don't like the fact that I have to pay money to undo this, but it's a lot better than DA:O where we had 4-9 talents pre-selected on some companions with no way of changing them. Heck, I tended to get Oghren so late that his entire two-handed tree was always completely filled out. There was no hope at all for him to fill a different role.
But like I said, the Maker's Sigh solves this. As long as it's not incredibly expensive, I don't mind having points spent in advance, even on the PC.

I think I'd almost like it if it wasn't a potion or anything at all.
We could have a library in Skyhold with a book: Tales from the Road or something like that. We can read it whenever we want and re-spec ourselves.

I don't need anything fancy and I also don't plan to use it beyond getting rid of starter skills. Tbh the concept of "respec" doesn't appeal to me, as it is far too unrealistic, even in a game based on wizards and warriors... but that's just me. Waiting until we have access to Skyhold sounds like I'd be dealing with auto-leveled skills for far longer than I'd like...

It's obviously got more to do with minimizing frustration for those who wish to try a new build than it does with realism, like most gameplay mechanics. Not being able to get that last skill to perfect your Knight Enchanter build because your max level in the 100th hour of a competitionist run is never fun. Those who wish to pull the "consequences" card in cases like these must have a lot more free time than I do.

Obviously. Which is why I said, "but that's just me." I'm not judging anybody.
