I wouldn’t mind if our Companions taught us the specs; as long as there was an actual learning process, through mini-quests, some cutscenes, whatever; something that added immersion. Know what I mean? Just the “ta-dam: spec acquired” I think is a bit meh (though I like being able to get them as soon as possible in-game – and not being locked out of them until a given point).
On another note: Shall we play a little game while we wait?
We’ve talked about customizing our character & companions before, what skills might suit one better than the other. We have yet to meet them and it’s all super due to change at this point. We’re likely to share some skills, able to change “roles” when needed (not limiting them) but what’d be their “specialty” or focus? For a first playthrough what are your thoughts + -? Me?:
Hmmm, this could be fun.
Warriors (I prefer my warriors to be Sword and Shield)
Blackwall - Sword and Shield - Tank all the way
Cassandra - Sword and Shield - mix between damage and tank
Bull - Two Handed/S&S - I need to see the Reaver tree to determine if it's gonna work better as a Two-Handed or S&S
Rogues
Cole - Daggers, damage dealer
Varric - Daggers, more focused on his traps
Sera - Archery
Mages
Vivienne - Totally crowd control and damage dealer. She'll be mainly pyromancy focused.
Solas - Primal spells, plus any Spirit like spells that he uses. I see him as using lightning as his primary element.
Dorian - My boyfriend's gonna be sticking to mostly debuffs and Creation spells. His element of choice would probably be lightning or frost.
Inquisitor - My guy is gonna primarily be the one blowing stuff up, so lots of fire and ice, with a lightning spell or two. He'll probably grab one or two support oriented spells as well. He's gonna be specced as a Rift Mage.
