Picture just looks like his staffs lit up to me, doesn't look like he made a 'sword of arcane force'.

is that pic photoshopped or legit?
It's legit, it was first seen in one of the interviews Gameinformer or PCGamer did with the devs.

really??!! I didn't know that. so that means Solas is a Knight Enchanter?
and I hope we aren't stuck with just a yellow/golden arcane blade.

Would that make Vivienne a Rift Mage? Or does she have something completely different?

Knight Enchanter is a Circle spec though... I don't know if it really fits with Solas...

Posté 02 octobre 2014 - 09:05
Maybe you can choose their spec?
It doesn't seem to fit of what we know of the characters but maybe it's more like a suggestion to pick Rift for Solas, KE for Viv and Necromancy for Dorian.

I am of the opinion that the party members have set specs because one of the devs once mentioned that Fallback Plan could be learned by either Varric or the Inquisitor. If the companions had flexible specs, he would have said "rogues" rather than specifically mentioning Varric.
Of course, that assumes that he didn't just misspeak or that they didn't decide to change the system later on... either of those could also be true.

So I guess from looking trough the screenshots if you unlock a passive skill you get a bonus to str(if you warrior), dex(if you rogue) and magic(if you mage) ?

You get +3 willpower for the pyromancer passive in the inferno tree so i think it depends on whats useful for your class/spec, for instance i wouldn't be surprised if Knight enchanter passives gave some constitution.

I agree with you, I think companion specs are pre-set. I was just throwing around an idea.
Are we sure that's KE blades and not something else mid spell?

For the Knight Enchanter thing.
They are less tanky than Arcane Warrior, then again, even Sword and Shield Warriors are less tanky than Arcane Warrior. God Mode is off in DA:I, however Knight Enchanter can tank, from what Mike said in the combat Q&A.
The description says they are experts in protection and defense.
Patrick Weekes confirmed that they fight close range with a summoned weapon. The weapon could be two handed since staves are two handed as well. It could be one handed though, we don't know at this point.
We also know they can wear heavy armor as well. We know it can be done for sure through crafting, we don't know if they have a passive to overcome armor restrictions on the default armors you find. I don't know really, since you're gonna want to craft your personal armors anyway. Point is, if you want a walking fortress, you got one.
Solas's spell could be a Fade Blade, which is a Knight Enchanter trademark, although Solas can use Fade powers supposedly, so i wouldn't be surprised if he had access to some spells like that without having the spec. Then again, if you notice, he is touching the tip of the lit object with his other hand. I presume, it's not a Fade Blade, but he is casting a fire based spell off his staff, or casting a spell that makes the staff light with that effect until the spell goes off.

We don't need to speculate or 'feel' if they are set in stone - they are very much pre-set specializations, we do not get to pick for them. They have stated this many times both in interviews and during the large QnA. We also know for a fact the specialization is tied to there background and that they do not train us in are own specializations. Past that it gets vague as all hell, in the QnA when asked weather or not they get unique specializations all we got was the whole 'they will be based off their own personal backgrounds, think Cole', or something to that effect (it's not an exact quote, im being lazy atm).
Now, as for that screen shot I do not think that's a Knight Enchanter spell. If you look at it, that is Solas' STAFF. The whole staff is lighting up on fire and he has his palm at the tip of the staff like hes about to throw a spell. Just because his staff is on fire does not mean hes a Knight Enchanter so... yeah, it's just a fancy screen shot taken at a moment mid-spell cast.

Yeah, I think Companions will have their own specs but that doesn't mean that some of them wont have specs available to the Inquisitor or some of the same abilities like Isabela, Anders, Merrill and Fenris (sort of) did.
From his Character profile Dorian sounds very much like a necromancer
[DG]: He enjoys using his magic and doesn't see any reason why he should be ashamed about it. So he unleashes his full power when it's needed… and he has plenty of power to unleash, seeing as he comes from a society where mages are trained to use it rather than hide it. This includes powerful elemental spells, as well as spells involving the control of spirit and the dead—things societies outside of Tevinter might turn up their noses at and claim "distasteful."
and Solas sounds like a rift mage from his.
[PW]: On the battlefield, Solas’s expertise with the Fade lets him manipulate magic in ways that would never occur to most mages.
My theory is that the glowing staff is some kind of rune or spell effect. I have not seen it in ages so it may not even be in the game any more. I think if anyone is a KE it will be Vivienne but she might not be.

I'm pretty sure the sun is just hitting Solas's staff or something in that pic. I think he's the Rift Mage and Vivienne is the KE.

I don't recall seeing Vivienne go into melee in any of the videos. Do you have a link if you remember her doing so?

Most of the companions haven't been shown using any specialisation abilities. It's just assumed she is as it's a circle mage spec and she is a circle mage.

None of the companions have been using specialization moves... the devs have been keeping those secret so far.

IB used some reaver abilities in the Hinterlands demo. I'm not sure if that means he is a reaver or if it was just a place holder or something.

Really? That was a long time ago too... I'm surprised I missed that. Do you recall which ones he used? I know that some of them were featured in the recent multiplayer videos, but that's it...

He used devour (if it's still called that), I think that might actually be the only reaver ability he used. The reaver tree is in the OP and i think the source video is the one where he uses it.

Yeah Milky I wasn't saying one way or another as to what specializations they have. I was just saying it's the one thing in relation to companions we have no real idea about since there is no concrete 'this is how it is'.

I know, I wasn't saying you were. I was just adding to the info you gave with the quotes from the Interviews and giving my own thoughts on how I think it will be.
