Yeah it does seem a bit odd in the recent stuff what we thought where focus either aren't there, or has been changed. I doubt they just 'got rid' of Focus abilities. May of changed how the icon displays it but... As much as I love the new information, like always, It ultimately just makes me have more questions then any answers I had prior lol.

If Focus abilities are now outside of normal spending of skill points I wonder if your heavily limited in which ones you can learn? I mean how would that even work? We got a story mission for are specializations, the whole Rift Mark thing I can see being story progress. Doubt there is another tab just for all the focus spells that just happen to require other tabs to be complete before you can have access. I dunno, it just seems really bizar is all atm.

I'm fine with any kind of melee mage spec.

Fists as melee weapons: awesome

Staffs as melee weapons: awesome

Any swords, maces, hammers, axes and shields as melee weapons: awesome

Goku chi as a melee weapon: awesome

Bruno Tonioli's dance moves a melee weapon: awesome

Liam Neeson's epic skills as a melee weapon: awesome

All of the above combined into an arcane martial artist: This is why I should have studied video game design at University! :(

Just give us a melee mage! :wizard:

The spell groupings don't always make sense. Why is fade step an ice/water tree spell?

Yep I've mentioned that before. They wanted the spell and shoehorned it into that tree. It would be better in the lightning tree or whatever its called.

According the recentest info the fade step spell leaves a trail of ice that damages enemies, so that is why it is in the winter tree.

And while I personally would have put it in Spirit, that is SUCH a cool idea. So I'll take it!

I think that was just to justify it being in the "winter" tree at all but it makes it stick out it a lot less so I am glad they did that.

Yeah, at least they made it fit a bit more. Although I still think a lightning trail would have been better, but I may be a little biased. I hope that Haste has indeed been taken out of the lightning tree, but if not I hope they do something similar to add some kind of lightning aspect to it to make it fit better. I would much rather have a large AOE lightning spell in its place though. Speaking of which, I would be okay if seeker swarm had been made into a lightning spell and put into that tree since it is no longer in Winter, but I think it is more likely that it got put into spirit to give that tree a damage ability.

You know after going over the video's I still think focus skills are still in tabs. But then it may not, but thinking their gone, as far as I can tell seems to be based 'entirely' off a single warrior tree in the most recent video. Or where there other vidoes I missed that lacked focus skills? They may of very well just removed that skill from 2H to make it so each skill has 9 total abilities (5 active, 4 passives) to align it all instead of it being all over the place like it was originally. Maybe that one focus was better suited in another tree?

Ahh I hope when they showcase the specializations they do a skim over of all the classes skills.

What did you see in the videos that makes you feel this way?  I'm not really sure what to believe, but I didn't notice anything specific that points to focus abilities still being present in the trees...

That we only saw 1 tree? 1 tree that now matchs skill and passive total of all the mages trees we've seen mostly. My point is we've seen a lot of trees, obviously in flux. We have only seen 1 (just 1) in the most recent video that has people assumnig focus was taken out of all 21 trees. It just feels like jumping to a conclusion with no real evidence. Though I did assume there would be a focus skill in each tree, doesn't mean it was or is that way as we haven't ever really seen all of them, let alone any of them that are up to date.

The only thing I'm sure of is 1 thing, they didn't get rid of focus (and even then they could of, but I doubt it). If they didn't get rid of focus, but no skill tree has focus skills then they would of had to of added content in for us to get access 'to' those focus skills. I just find it odd that they would add, lets say a 5th skill tab in that just has focus skills and each one has a requirement of you having like 5 points in a specific tab. If that is what they wanted, it could of just been a 10th skill after the 9th in the chain and problem solved. There just isn't a reason to drag them out and place them elsewhere.

Now, perhaps all the focus skills have never really been tied to skill trees and they where just thrown in there for testing purposes. Honestly when I first heard about the focus skills it sounded like they weren't part of the skill trees to begin with but that was a year ago when I thought that. Maybe we really do just unlock them via other methods and they have little to do with are actual skill choices. I just kinda doubt that is all.

-edit-

@Abraham_UK: Yes and no. We know the general idea of some of them but we haven't had any actual 'confirmation' of ANY of them, except warrior/rogue having weapon tabs, and mage getting fire/cold tabs. We also know each tab is designed to fill a specific role of some kind, and specializations are part of that. So, with mage, we know Fire, Cold and something that's heavily focused in support (though Ice and Fire definitely have some support like skills as well).

Untill they make a video, or just show us via a stream/screen shots of 'this is what we got for the final product' we're all speculating based off old ass information and general guess work.

-re-edit-

Speaking of which I forgot about the most recent stream, imma go scim that. I forget if they showed a skill tree in it or not, but then it was an older build (or newer build?) where crafting was broken.

I don't think it's been technically confirmed, but I think it's a fairly safe bet at this point that those are gonna be it. What exactly is in the trees, upgrades, and names of trees appears to be in flux a bit, so that could be different.

@ Adhin - Alright, you make a pretty good case too... hm... yeah, I think speculation can only get us so far at this point.  They keep changing things around, so who knows what we'll end up with.  If the changes hadn't been so drastic, I might be more inclined to keep making predictions, but not so much anymore...

It's still fun to read what other people have come up with, though...

Looks good. I just hope we actually get to see what all the abilities are in those trees before the game comes out. Should help people plan out their class and party better.

EDIT: Nvm, I ready that the full list of abilities will be revealed in November.

Perhaps Stone Fist was moved to the Rift Mage specialization tree?  It could make sense with the "matter conjured from the Fade thrown at enemies" description.  Or they could put it at the top of the Lightning/Primal tree like they had it, and Seeker Swarm could be right below it (or vice versa).  Remove Haste because it's a Focus spell and Static Cage could be the AOE power spell at the bottom, similar to Blizzard and Fire Storm being the last spells in their trees.  Who knows at this point.

@Abraham_uk

I think you're exactly right.  Personally I think the "Stealth" tree will be named "Subterfuge" like in DA2 (because an actual skill is called Stealth) and the one you named "Scoundrel" will be called "Sabotage" just because it makes more sense with the skills shown like Knockout Bomb and Poisoned Weapons.

Has it been stated anywhere if the Mark of the Fade or whatever ability essentially kills enemies or just banishes them? I would hope that it doesn't rob you of the experience you would have gained defeating them naturally.

I doubt it'll rob you of experience. Not sure if it permanently banishes demons near a rift as a 'kill' or if its a timed banish. Think its a kill-banish.

Do we know that we'll earn xp per kill? Isn't it possible that xp is earned solely through quest objectives? After all, in one demo, Blackwall urges the inquisitor to ignore the swarming undead and head straight for the keep. I doubt they'd let yo camp there and earn xp indefinitely.

I remember ages ago there was mention of avoiding low level enemies because they don't grant much XP and that low level areas would eventually stop giving you XP once you got too high a level. So it soulds like enemies do give xp and I think some grinding can be done but only to a point.

@Mathias: Ahh I doubt that means they have it scheduled to actually reveal the skills in November. That's when the game is released, which is probably what it's referring too. I'd love it if they would 'actually' show us all the ablity trees prior to launch though for sure. They just haven't ever done that, to any game that they've ever made, ever.

I don't get why, honestly, they have a tendency to spill story stuff before mechanic stuff and it just doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather know the skills so I can plan ahead then find out story stuff before I start the game. But thats marketting, story stuffs more interesting to advertise to the wider audience.

I imagine that story stuff gets locked-down earlier in the development cycle.  Whereas, gameplay mechanics are likely being tweaked/balanced right until the gold build is finalized.
