I think that's 'Dispel' you're seeing.
Looks cooler than before though.
I don't think it's dispel though. The icon utilized looked like a snowflake to me.

Yep that's Guard. Warriors can generate that for themselves by using abilities like blocking attacks with Shield Wall or taunting enemies with War Cry (the more enemies it taunts, the more Guard generated). Guard also doesn't diminish over time like Barrier, and it stays as extra health until enemies damage you.
I was thinking about doing rogue until the Guard mechanic details started to surface. Playing a tank in Inquisition sounds leagues more interesting than playing a tank in...well...most RPGs.
HE'S GOING TO PUT UP A CLASS BREAKDOWN VIDEO THANK YOU ALL THE FORCES THAT BE!!!!!!!!!
WHEN?!
Okay, about that ability in question.
At 1:39, while controlling Solas, he flips to his second set of abilities. Dispel is the only one with enough mana to cast - the others are lightning bolt and static cage (I think that's Static Cage). Either way, it's teh only one lit up as useable at that moment. Also, the targeting circle thing is white just like the Barrier one (probably for Spirit school spells). Finally, after it's used, the word 'Dispelled' pop up over somebody.
So I'm fairly certain it was Dispel.
EDIT: Just took a look at the tiny preview of him checking out the skill trees (the video that isn't up yet),and WOW are the trees way more complicated-looking now. They look bigger too, though that may just be the way they look from this perspective/the way they're shaped.

Yeah. The green hand icon, definitely is Dispel: and it seems to have gotten a lil *=Eldritch combo marking, as well. Solas's spells: Winter’s Grasp, Chain Lightning, “Seeker’s Swarm”, Barrier; then: Lightning Bolt, Static Cage, Dispel and finally, Ice Burst (not Blizzard) is the Winter spell mapped to RB. ![]()

That sounds kind of weird... I wonder how that would work? Rather than causing damage to enemies who are using a buff spell (like the DA2 Transmutation upgrade), the dispelling of something like Frozen or Paralyzed status causes damage?
Also, I think I will definitely want to have as many mages as possible learn Guardian Spirit... it saved Solas's life when he got blasted by dragon's breath...

Where did you see that? It looked to me like nothing was there.

Ugh, nm. You’re right. Nothing there upon further inspection, I thought I saw it being lit up for a millisecond before Dispel & it looked like it, but it was just Varric's stealth + some blue lighting behind an empty icon. My bad, sorry y'all... ![]()

Ikr? Don’t know what to make of it either, atm #BrainOverload
xD. Description:
Dispel:
You remove hostile magic and status effects from allies while stripping beneficial effects from enemies. The more you are hurt, the stronger both effects are.
Size: 5 Meters
Cooldown Time: 8 seconds
Cost: 35 Mana
Eldritch Detonator Ability: Use on incapacitated foes for a combo
Mmmm, informations, delicious. As for that preview it holds up to the 5/4. It's 2 actives right away that both link up to 1 more. 4 passives (2 on each side) then 2 more actives (one on each side). That's 5/4 just like the 2H tab on Warrior. Same number of stuff, different general layout though. Which I like, I'm glad they decided to go crazy on the 'design' of the layout instead of it being boring straight lines (even if its you know, 'technically' a linear path heh).
Can't wait for the full video of skill stuff though.
how do you see the preview?
It's not a preview video, the end of the video shows a non-clickable shrunk quip of the video he's going to be putting up when its finished. Just skip to the end and you can see a few seconds of it. Listening to the guys video-pod-cast-thingy now about his trip. Apparently there where a bunch of childish german guys being jerks. Either way relatively interesting.
-edit-
Except the part where he keeps getting distracted while playing Destiny. This is why people should do there conversation stuff as VO over pre-recorded footage lol.
Just got online, there are more skill tree images? I'm just gonna go watch all these new vids.
Not yet Mikey, but soon, soon... well hopefully soon, no idea if the guys uploading the video today or not. Some other youtuber might have something also up. Then again there is a no-comment 30 minute long video he has which I'm about to watch, it may have skill trees in it. But I think the guy has a few hours of footage hes making videos out of.
-edit-
Love the part where Varric uses some caltrop skill. He just does a quick toss behind him with a pile of caltrops. Rogue's gonna be pretty fun with stuff like that. ![]()

Yeah, and I totally agree. The numbers seem to be holding up and I like that much is consistent; but, I have to say, what I’m loving most is the idea of these different layout/structures, as well. Looks much more interesting and just so… big, what’s there not to like? ![]()
Ugh, now this I have to see. Video, come over here, you! ![]()
That's what she said? Heh, Anyway yeah I like the different layout setup they got going, and hope the upcoming video shows all 3 classes. Watching the no-commentary 30-ish min long video, and miday he finds 'Orlesian Army Battlemage Armor'. Hope that's armor-armor and not just a fancy name for robes with some Orlesian army crest on it.
30-ish minute mark of the 36 minute long video he looks at the map of the place hes currently in. Not overworld, inside some building. It actually is showing a draw line of the recent path hes walked. Just had a battle (an extremely poor played battle where he had Cassandra use a 2H weapon for whatever crazy reason) so the line looked like a toddler with a crayon but it was nifty to see them have that kinda thing in.

http://youtu.be/00utDiTBUMI?t=30m29s : Figure'd Id just link that bit I'm talking about.
A lot of what I am seeing is incredibly impressive. The environments look huge and full of things to find, most of the npc's have stuff to say as you go past them rather than just a select few like in the previous two games. the architecture is also lovely, just watching the Inquisitor fight some enemies in this orlesian manor house and it actually looks like a manor house that belonged to some ridiculously wealthy person. Not like in DA2 where it was pretty much the same small looking bunch of rooms for every manor in Kirkwall.
Yeah Mikey the enviroments look fantastic. The way the trees roots go into the ground reminds me a lot of the original Icewind dale and the massive tree. Actually a lot of the visuals kinda reminds me of baldurs gate/Icewind Dale games but you know, all not pre-rendered and whatnot.
As an aside no idea what that pinging thing is other then quest point finder thing... really hoping it's something you manually do and isn't something that just happens non-stop while your near something. In the video it stops at one point for awhile so I'm kind of assuming its something hes doing and is just doing it to annoying levels of irritation but if it's automated hopefully I can turn that off. They've mentioned being able to turn off quest tracking and the like so... yeah. It was bugging me through out that 30 min video.
@Adhin
Yeah, it seems like this would be a lot easier if the player didn't make so many obvious mistakes. It looks like you should be able to avoid taking much damage at all in most fights with various protective buffs/effects and abilities that manipulate enemy agro. I watched one fight where the party got totally slaughtered and then in another fight only one member of the party obtained any damage and that was against more enemies.
I am actually liking this because it means the combat is quite tactical, seems like it could be really fun on the harder settings.
Yeah definitely agree there Mikey. I think I have also 100% confirmed A, on a controller will be jump and interact. This guy constantly sees something he can interact with, jumps instead as hes almost with in range. It's kinda amusing, but every time he tries to use something he's not close enough to he just jump like a crazy person instead. I approve of this, if for no other reason then general amusement when I watch other people.
Personally, I'll be jumping all the time regardless of if im trying to interact with anything because yay jumping.
-edit-
Ooooh, 'Reinforced Battlemage Mail' that time, hope its armor-armor
(still classified as 'Light Armor')
Yeah i think the scanning is something he is doing. it kept doing it for a while after he found the journal but there was no arrow pointing to anything. I wonder if it's an Inquisitor thing or a Rogue only ability.
It was confirmed that you can craft some heavy armour sets for mages, I doubt they will be on the same level as the warrior armours though. Dunno if there will be any specific heavy armours in the game for mages. Usually I am happy with the robes but my Qunari KE (3rd playthrough) would look good in heavy armour.

I think it's the TAB like scan-area-for-interesting-stuff button we've seen on the pc quickbar screen cap if so then it would be a manual thing.
