Another update.

I hope Poisoned Weapons works on ranged weapons - I kinda want to give it to Sera.
Although I'm increasingly thinking about giving Sera daggers. I dunno.

I say go for it. It's good to think outside the box... I will be giving Cole a bow since I plan to use him as my main rogue. Tempest sounds like it would work really well with daggers anyway...

I can't imagine it doesn't. It's not a dagger skill and there's nothing in the description that indicates it doesn't work with bows.

Yeah. See, I like Sera, but I always play a mage. And I usually enjoy having a fellow mage along, which leaves only one melee person. I worry that will backfire, so I think Sera's going to end up with twin blades.
Ok, the shots of the DD tree rex provided have now been added to the OP. I am just gonna watch the video again to make sure I haven't missed anything.

Out of curiosity, Rift Mage or Necromancer? Necromancer will likely give you another melee meatshield to boss around, so I'm not sure if you will really need a melee rogue as well. I guess that would depend on how powerful the undead creature is, how long it can stay on the field, etc... Also, if you rotate Vivienne in, she will likely be a good hybrid of melee and ranged since she's probably a Knight Enchanter... Dorian would also be able to provide an additional undead meatshield option... I see a lot of viable combinations tbh. I don't know how useful a melee rogue would be against a dragon or giant, however... make sure you keep a Barrier on them at all times. xD
theres an ability tab in the screenmshots so im holding out hope we might be able to properly lvl up.

I'm going to take the road less traveled by and avoid taking Barrier - I'm bored by support spells.
Probably Necromancer, and you raise a good point.
Gee, this really goes to show all of the variety we can get out of characters, especially now that we can switch companions' weapon style.
Yeah Cat Fancy but that's the same garbage Diablo 3 went with. No control over your attributes except with armor (and if true in DAI, passives). It just kinda kills part of character development and makes it so each piece of equipment is kinda samy.
Exactly what I thought of. Diablo 3 had some great combat, but at the expense of a limited 6-skill loadout and no control over attributes when leveling. You had to increase your attributes purely through equipment. I'm afraid this is the direction Dragon Age is heading. I'm way more on board with the 8-ability loadout than with no attribute distribution choice upon level up. There's no reason to take that away other than for the fact they think most players may be ignorant and choose the "wrong" stats for their character. And if there are only 2 good stats for each class, then that means the stats are designed poorly. All stats should help all characters in some way; that means build diversity, that means interesting character building. They tried to do this a bit more in DA2, but it still needed refinement.
And especially if attributes are now tied to skill tree progression as well. That just locks us even more into linearity when going through the skill trees. ![]()
Let's hope cooler heads prevailed in the end and they decided to still let us choose attributes on level up.

o_O Oh my.... that's a rather bold move. After looking at those videos, I wish you luck! Although I'm guessing you know a bit more about crowd control and tactics than whoever was making the rogue gameplay demos, so it probably won't be that bad... people who aren't under a Barrier take a lot of damage though. In that Twitch video, the Inquisitor was taking like 20-25% damage from each crossbow bolt, and that was on Normal... :/ Then again, most of that damage could have been avoided with the right spells... I don't remember anyone in that demo having Static Cage, for example.

*watchs the 5/4 theory get shotgunned out of the air* Farewell dear theory, farewell! Heh, the bow line has 4/4, as does Subterfuge. Other 2 have 5/4. One thing I noticed though is 'each' skill had 1 upgrade, wonder if that holds true for all the rest. Either case that's 13/12/13/12 and NONE of them have the Focus bracket skills at all. Sooo... Yeeaaaah, Focus, no existeh on the skilleh trees. Guess we definitely unlock them via some other method.
Oh, also, there was no Inquisitor skill tab like we once saw that everyone assumed the mark was in.
That kinda supports my theory about Starting Abilities in a previous post (tarot cards, class selection screen?). We were shown: 2 cards for Warriors, 2 cards for Rogues and one for Mages. And it might go like:
Rogues: DD (1st Tier from that tree + Stealth), Archer (1st Tier from that tree + Caltrops)
Warriors: 2H (Block & Slash + Combat Roll (Battlemaster)), W&S (1st Tier from that tree, + Taunt (Vanguard))
Mages: “Seeker’s Swarm” (“Primal/Electricity”) + Fade Step (Winter)
Or something similar. Anyways: Starting Talents being determined by one skill from a tree with 5 Actives and another with 4. If Stonefist has indeed been moved out (if it was ever in) of “Primal” and into Rift Mage; that should be proven true also for Mages (5 from Winter, 4 from “Primal” (“Seeker’s Swarm, Chain Lightning, Lightning Bolt & Static Cage)! ![]()
Focus: Inferno (Fire Storm); Winter (Blizzard); Spirit (“Group Heal”) & “Primal”: Haste.
I think the Focus theory also, should be safe to entertain more seriously at this point (for all classes)... or not really?
Am I making any sense, guys???

At the very least, since I'm rolling a human, I'll get an extra spell point, so I'm gonna drop that into Barrier.

I don't know if you can safely say that all the upper level elemental spells are Focus driven though...

Lucky... especially so now that attribute advances seem to be heavily tied to talents.

I was considering trying a three mage party with a rogue (so I can open stuff) but it seems like you are gonna need all three of the classes for some missions. For the quest in the Orlesian estate you needed a warrior (Cassandra) to smash down a wall and a rogue (the Inquisitor) to open some doors to complete the quest. Mages can raise bridges and do various other magical things so I assume that will be needed to for some quests.

Yup. I was going to try to break the mold with some uneven parties too, but I really like to be able to reach all the treasure I can, so I will be taking 1 char of each class on every mission. I used to think rogues were lame because I felt forced to take them around to open chests, but now it looks like every class is like that, so I can't really hate on them anymore...
I might still try out a 4 mage party in an area I've already explored though... or perhaps somewhere that I think I can return to once I've cleared it out. I've been wanting to do a 4 mage party since Origins, but this is the first chance I'll get... I have to at least try it out once.

I am the same, I can't stand not being able to open things or get into areas. I can just about live with certain areas being locked off due to choices I make but I don't think I could handle missing loads of chests, secret rooms/areas and not being able to complete some of the quests.
I guess we can still explore with uneven parties and just come back if we can't open something. I will do that so I can hear at least some of the banter between certain characters of the same class. Even with multiple playthroughs it will be hard to get all of it though if this is gonna be a common theme. ![]()

O_____o
You goin' die.
LOL.
I mean my PC won't take it; any other mage in the party will have it, no questions asked. And I always have one additional mage.
I'll be focusing on ice magic, which should give me a nice mix of offense and crowd control to help mitigate damage, and I'll likely grab some primal as well.
@IcyQuinn: I know you typed stuff but... but all I read was blahasdbbarbar... dunno what thats about.
Anyway yeah I think the focus are outside of skill trees now that we have more actual evidence besides 1 tree. That or they're in all specializations (which I doubt). Just makes me wonder how we'll get them, gadda be something you work towards, probably keep/table related.
LOL.

lol... okay, that sounds a bit more reasonable. I thought you just wanted an extreme challenge or something. xD
I hope there are a good amount of skill points available outside of the 25-30 for leveling up. Some of the trees have like 14 abilities(including upgrades). It's good to be able to max out at least 3 trees (including spec).

My plan is to pick out 8 core active skills and then try to grab as many passives as possible... no idea how that's going to work out, but some of them look too good to pass on. Guardian Spirit will be a must for my KE, but that shouldn't be a problem since I want to do some investing in Spirit anyway. I doubt I'll actually fill out the whole tree though... I'm not really that big on support, I just want to have as many Barrier-related abilities as possible. Beyond that, I'm taking the whole Ice tree and probably the full KE tree as well. Anything else I unlock will likely just be something en route to a passive... as long as I have my 8 actives and Guardian Spirit, I don't really care what else I learn...

Oh, GOD no. I always play on Normal. I like to drift through a game with reasonable challenge (I'll use tac-cam, for instance), but I HATE wiping and having to re-load. If it happens twice, I turn down the difficulty so I can be on my way.
