If by pushing away you mean adding back into the series with a more advanced version and options available to said tactical camera then yeah totally they're pushing away from it 100%. Unless you mean all the footage of people who don't play RPG's just never using it in there few hours they got to capture footage? No... not really.

Basically this.

And also noteable - those folks were DYING.

Tac-Cam is clearly a healthy play choice. And why would they have included it at all if they were going to back off from it?

Is it just me or is BW pushing away form tactical view?

One thing's for sure: the players who are getting to play the game demos sure are pushing away the tactical view haha.

As for Bioware, aren't they objectively moving back toward it, since they implemented it in DA:I and it wasn't even there in DA2?  Granted the real time combat looks better than ever, but so does the tactical combat.  I'll take both please.

Yeah, I'm extremely happy to see both in to the quality they seem to be in at. Cause, frankly, I like mixing the 2. I prefer non-overhead for the bulk of stuff but there will be plenty of tactical cam planning and setup through out all my play throughs. If for no other reason then it allows you to scan ahead, and get a good chess like view of where all the enemies are. Few of the videos people are like 'Oh 3 enemies!' and completely missed the few archers off on the side pelting them all to death. And that's not even speaking about the one dude who kept not... combatting with his rogue lol, I mean wtf. Glad hes got videos up but the whole commentary of 'my idea was to stay out of combat and just like stealth in'. That's code for 'make my rogue useless as hell'.

I think it's fair to notice that most people who get their hands on the game seem to play it with limited use of the tactical view.

But that might be because of a combination of controller + not high difficulty + being more familiar with action focused genres

I guess if I had to pick a pony I would pick this one. I just don't see people in demos using it and call me a conspiracy theorist if you want but I feel BW has something to do with it.

Why would Bioware not want people using the Tactical Cam in demos?

I think its mostly all those Youtubers don't know how to play DA games, all their normal videos are of CoD/BF/CS matches.

I would also add that I suspect they get limited time with the demo, and so they probably adopt a mentality of, "Hurry up, get in there, and do stuff so it's on film!" It's why they don't read the codexes and such.

I'm positive they are absolutely capable of playing DA:I more carefully, and they probably will when they own the actual game.

I'm not so sure about that... even if I were rushing through the game I would not have made most of those mistakes from the videos.  Not auto-attacking?  Rarely switching to different party members?  Letting party members get caught on scenery and hack away at thin air for over a minute?  Letting party members die over and over?  I think their channels would get more views if they handled the game like pros rather than looking absolutely awful in combat... there's really no reason for them to have appeared that incompetent if they actually had a clue about what they were doing.  Heck, instinct should have taken over at certain points, even if they were rushing.

I don't mean to rant, but the gameplay in some of those videos was so poor that I found it really annoying to watch.  I like that the person recording them took the time to scroll through skill trees and the inventory, but that doesn't make up for how awful they were at the game.

Is this supposed to be a difficult game? Thats my question this time. If it is I don't see why they would "rush" and give an unrealistic look at the way the game plays. Hmmm...

I don't blame them for that. I mean they didn't play from levels 1-12, they were pretty much just thrown into the middle of the game and likely with an unfamiliar class (although all the classes have gone through some changes) so I wouldn't expect them to know what to do right away.

I can understand that, but how did this person even get access to the demo if they've never played any Dragon Age games before?  It's not that different from previous titles, even with all the changes... I mean... whatever the reason, that was a terrible display.

In any case, I was mainly taking issue with the idea that they actually did know how to play but were just rushing...  IMO that sounds implausible if you look at the types of mistakes they were making (no auto-attack being the most glaring... wouldn't a person who was rushing want to kill enemies quickly?  By attacking them, perhaps?).  If they legitimately had never touched a DA game before, then that would make sense.  It was still annoying to watch them fumbling around like that.  If they knew they were going to record it and make a video, they should have practiced first.

This too, though I acknowledge your (Icy Magebane's) points about time of exposure.

There's a big difference between picking up a game and playing at level 12 and starting at level 1 and gradually finding your way into the game's rhythm.

Edit; Plus, the rhythym itself changes from game to game, so even if you've played DA:O or DA2, you might not be used to things like no health regeneration or controls or abilities and so forth.

Believe it or not, these videos show how most people play. Just check out most of the lets play on youtube of Origins. They are painful to watch.

I originally started using the tactical view out of necessity in DA:O and then I couldn't stop.

I remember way -WAY - back, Mike Laidlaw and co. talked about driving a game and how it's extremely counterintuitive because you have to show intent but not necessarily how the game actually plays because it's boring. And they mentioned that watching your buddy play a game is often frustrating. I think we're getting a bit of that right now.

VERY GOOD NEWS, PEOPLE.

The guy that did the Wiki Gamign videos got asked by me and one other when the skills video goes up, and he said it's being edited right now and should be up in a few hours. ABILITY TREES COME TO US. STOP ALL THIS SPECULATION!!!

All he had to do was show each ability/upgrade/passive for fraction of a second. But NO.

I am really liking the construction of the new spell trees. Also, the revive is on a 60 second cooldown, which is very forgiving if you ask me.
