Actually if Firestorm was green, that might be enough to justify it being in Rift Mage. Good call.
Except we have seen mages use it. It was even in multiplayer as big red fireballs dropping from the sky.

Yeah it's probably just fireballs, I'm just hoping they've added green flair to it is all.
and shouldn't firestorm belong in the Inferno tree?
again, I'd caution about jumping to conclusions about these companion spec trees. especially about what's considered a focus ability for that tree.

Wonderful. If Rift Mage really did end up as just a storehouse for odd-one-out abilities that feels really bad.

Oh, well nvm then...
I think green would have been an improvement though, just to keep with the "Fade" theme...

It should, but it was conspicuously absent from the Inferno tree as shown in the most recent video. And Rift Mage appeared to have it, or something quite like it.
EDIT: Inferno is at 2:15, Rift Mage at 1:20. Video here.
in the Rift Mage tree, the top left icon looks like a downward fist slamming into the ground. could that be Fist of the Maker from the Force Mage tree?

Isn't that Stonefist?

Seriously why do people think that middle icon is firestorm? It looks nothing like it. I don't even know what that's supposed to be.

That's the one on the right, he/she's talking about the one on the left.

I see. but again, the focus abilities for these companions feel out of place in the spec tree they are in.
Hail of Arrows feels out of place in Artificer.
The Horned Helmet icon feels out of place in the Templar tree.
Firestorm feels out of place in Rift Mage.
it could very well be that each companion has one focus ability. and they've just placed that in their spec tree.
for the Inquisitor, it could be different.

You think they're gonna keep that in the final build though? It seems like the focus abilities are for single player only. They would break the balance/gameplay of multiplayer. For example: Haste. There's no way to do that when you're playing in real time with 3 other people. Or Group Heal. They don't want to have a healing class that makes all the other classes less desirable.

Good point... Focus powers in MP would be strange, especially since we only have 4 abilities (3 if one of those slots is a Focus skill...). Group heal in particular would be wildly unbalanced, since we have very few healing options in that mode to begin with. Teams of 4 of the same class that can use Group Heal would own.
Bah, that video shows the Spirit is purely a buffing and utility tree. Barrier, Mind Blast and Dispel. It looks like all the cool stuff got moved to Necromancer ![]()
Thought I'd post Barrier and its upgrade.

Also, it seems they have taken out the Creation Glyphs entirely...which really pisses me off, not gonna lie.

I did like the glyph of repulsion in DA:O though I never used the glyphs in DA2.

Spoiler
Thanks for posting this (out of likes, sadly), but I don't get it... is this upgrade supposed to encourage us to spam Barrier or what? I was hoping for a duration bonus tbh...
In fact... a 24 second cooldown is incredibly long for how short the duration is... although for some reason the duration isn't even listed in the description... based on the videos it can't be longer than 10 seconds.
This entire thing is just very vague... how long do we have to cast Barrier before the upgrade resets and the cooldown timer goes back to 24 seconds? Isn't it kind of important that we know that stuff?

This is an example of them combining things. Varric's Spike Trap in the Artificer Tree is basically a Glyph of Repulsion.
If the barrier is more stable, that really does seem like its duration should be longer, rather than its cooldown reduced. For cooldown reduction I would have thought the description would mention how casting demanded less energy or something.

I actually prefer this, that way if it gets destroyed or dispelled we don't have to wait too long to recast
*tears at my hair*
But I'm not playing a goddamn rogue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But you can control a rogue if you bring one!!!!

Even then only Varric can learn this ability... so you'd have to bring him specifically or play as an Artificer.
And that makes my human mage inquisitor a very happy necromancerBah, that video shows the Spirit is purely a buffing and utility tree. Barrier, Mind Blast and Dispel. It looks like all the cool stuff got moved to Necromancer

I'll be waiting a while before I make my necromancer, but she'll be in the same boat.
