Yeah, I'm thinking the opening spells are Energy Barrage and another one.

Opening spells will most likely be Energy Barrage and Barrier.

Just going by what I saw. I certainly wouldn't assume anything either way.

That would make the game way too easy.  I could just take Fire Mine and troll everyone for the first 10 levels or so... :/

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Barrier. Glad we can re-spec in any case.

That's my ONE quibble with the skill trees as they are. I feel like the Spirit tree could have been called 'Barrier'. Don't get me wrong, Barrier is sweet, but there could have been other stuff in Spirit.

Agreed. Looks like the only Spirit damage we'll be doing from the base trees is Energy Barrage with a Spirit staff equipped. Kind of lame when there's enemies with Spirit weakness.

Not if it was locked until Level 10 or something.

Yeah, if those are our starting spells, I'll be alright, so that way I won't have to waste points on those.

And yeah, the Spirit tree is very lackluster in that it all has to deal with Barrier. I mean, even Mind Blast does Barrier stuff now.

Yeah. I'd imagine that Rift Mage and Necromancy deal in Spirit Damage as well, though the Knight Enchanter probably uses "physical" damage.

Both Mind Blast and Dispel are detonators though... we might be able to deal Spirit damage that way, but it would require a combo first...  it's not ideal, but it's something I guess.

By the way, I have noticed several times that when Solas was attacking with a basic attack, he would randomly release an explosion of green energy centered on himself. What the hell is that? I had wondered if maybe there was a passive from the Rift tree he had unlocked that let him loose blast of energy every now and then.

It definitely sounds like Necromancy has Walking Bomb, which has previously been Spirit damage. I'm hoping Necromancy has some cool stuff, if it's to be believed that it has the Focus Heal. I want it for my Inquisitor but not sure I want to throw away my specialisation just to get it (assuming Mark of the Rift isn't the only Focus ability available to the Inquisitor independent of specialisation).

You aren't mistaking it for Toxic Cloud?  I think the rogue Inquisitor may have been using that...

MAYBE IF SOMEONE WENT THROUGH THE RIFT MAGE TREE WE COULD FIND OUT.

*sigh* I know it's probably because they weren't allowed to, but..

I'd hope KE use Spirit as well, they apparently use magical fade energy blades, after all.

Right around 1:30 in this video. Definitely not Toxic Cloud.

Spoiler

Wtf?  o.O  Yeah.... I've never seen that before.  No idea what it could be, but something related to Rift Mage is a good guess.

It's the same effect as Mind Blast, but that's not mapped.

I'm guessing it's a passive - Solas doesn't have anything in Rift Mage yet - when they show the tree, it's all greyed out.

Possibly a Rift Mage passive that triggers at the end of every staff combo, or has a chance to trigger?

Gives me good hope for Knight-Enchanter...

My dream/ideal for K-E would be a passive near the beginning of the tree that gives the mage a brand new auto-attack that deals much more damage then a normal staff combo, whenever they're within close range of their enemy. This would be one of the cases where they conjure an energy blade to fight.

They would revert back to the staff combo when out of range.

That sounds much better than summoning a conjured weapon for some set duration, which is what I assumed would be the case.  I hope they went with your idea... xD

Idk why, but whenever they mention conjured blades, I always think of the Blades spell from Fable. Maybe one of the new active spells lets you hurl a salvo of energy blades at a target.

Me too actually... lol... they keep saying that this is a melee mage, but if it winds up being anything like the Fable ability, I'm jumping ship.

Lol, and this is why I'm not running a KE. :D

For shame. These guys don't even want to be sorcerous masters of the battlefield, skilled in all theaters of personal combat...

I bet you're the kind of people that wouldn't even roll Magus in a game of Pathfinder.  -_-

I really just want to be a Spellsword... KE is the closest thing to that, but if I can't even wield an energy blade, I'm out.  Caster mages are fine, but without blood mage, I'm just not that interested...  I can be a caster mage in a lot of games...

ooh. I thought you implied the opposite.

Then continue on. I know I'll be similarly jumping ship (to Rogue) if Knight-Enchanter is particularly disappointing insofar as my melee needs are concerned.

You kidding me, bro? Rift Mage sounds like about as magey as a mage can get! Mages were meant to strike down their enemies from a far with their arcane might. There is no need for barbaric displays of blade-wielding. Leave that to the uncivilized warriors. We are Magi, for God's sake! Act like it!
