Yeah, I personally think Resurgence is for Necromancer. I think it would make sense with Knight Enchanter, but the reverse - Haste for Necromancer - just does not make any sense to me at all.

I really, really, really doubt that the Focus abilities will change around based on character. The only exclusive Focus ability we've seen is Mark of the Rift, which I think we just get as part of the story. It's possible I'm wrong, but....I don't think I am lol. I think the specializations will work the same for anybody who has them - only difference is that the Inquisitor can choose which one (the companions presumably picked their own).

guess we'll find out in about a month!!

but I guess I can see Firestorm being in Rift Mage.  maybe it's been changed to not be a fire ball spell but more like summoning a fiery meteor shower from the Fade.  So, a fiery, souped up version of Stone Fist - part of the "pulling matter from the Fade" deal with Rift Mage.

that would mean the other 2 active spells should fall under the "twisting the Veil to stagger or crush enemies" category.  so.....maybe some offensive CC type spells?

A telekinetic Fist of the Maker type spell ( upper left icon? ) would fit "using the Veil to crush enemies."

and the bottom "swirl icon" Spell might be the one that "staggers" enemies?

Adhin, yes, it has a subterfuge tree.

And I have an idea to create a Shadow Archer type, but I don't know if it will work in DAI.

Solas has Stone Fist spell?

Rift Mage is something similar Battlemage with elemental spells?

So specializations in companions will be different of the inquisitor version.

It should work.  I'm planning to do this with Cole, and it looks like archery and stealth can work well together.

Yeah, it sounds like Assassin spec is the way to go now if you want a Shadow-like archer. According to its description, it relies on stealth and damage over time abilities ;)

Also, just noticed this, but we lack the power to provide elemental attributes to our party member's weapons as a mage...

I guess either it might be a Knight Enchanter spell, or we will have to craft/find elemental weapons this time around.

Hm... I wonder if that means a passive that grants Bleed damage to basic and special attacks... or would that be too powerful?  Maybe Assassin attacks cause bleeding instead?

Icy Magebane, you are my thinking's brother.  :wizard:

Eluvianus Rex, thank you very much.  :)

For rogues, I want to use bow with shadow and some alchemy, as there is no bards in DAI, because I love musical attacks too.   :bandit:

I need to decide mages and warriors.

It wouldn't be the first time, right? In DAO assassins caused bleeding damage (though quite low and only for DD) I think it'd be great!

It could have been removed so that the Tempest abilities feel more unique... outside of that spec, we may need to rely on weapon runes.  A KE sustain would also make sense, but I get the feeling it was removed so that Tempests aren't redundant (assuming they coat their weapons in Flame Coating, etc).

Skymaple, really? I love damage over time. I will keep an eye in Assassin too.

I wonder how many character we can keep saved. I will create a lot of them.  :D

In past DA games, I created a nature mage, an elementalist mage and a chaotic mage.

But in DAI, 3 trees is about elementals and we can choose just 1 specialization. Maybe will be complicated to keep a themed mage without go to elemental route.

If you love damage over time effects, keep an eye on Assassin spec and see the sabotage tree... lots of poison there! Even toxic cloud! AMAZING :D

I'll probably go storm/inferno tree.

Storm has Gathering Storm perk: basic attacks reduce cooldown by 0.5 seconds.
Inferno has Flashpoint: after a critical hit, your next spell has no cooldown
and Clean Burn: casting spells reduce your cooldowns by 1 second.

Plus, storm tree has some major +damage perks for spells. Couple that with the crazy strong inferno tree, and I imagine some nice damage output.

Is it safe to assume from the description of Shadow Strike that we can prime and trigger our own combos?  That would be great news if true.

@Thibax : I am 100% confident you'll be happy with rogue's at a base, and the specializations will just be said frosting on delicious cake. I mean right off the bat (lvl 1 or 2) you have a stealth skill that has no duration tied to it, that can be used 'in' combat no less. That upgrades pretty amazing too. There is a passive that lowers all threat generation by 25% and by 100%(holy balls!) if your Flanking.

Then you got poison blades as just a base thing for Rogues, dagger throwing, knock out gas. Archery is looking sexy too. They got that long charge up aimed shot that does a ton of dmg. Some explosive shot, sure a buncha other nice little things that'll make it hard to pick. Oh and that throwing knife skill? Not weapon dependant. If you wanna throw knives as an archer you can. Every rogue I make will almost undoubted have the throw knife skill (it throws like 4 in quick succession) cause... throwing knives, that's a good enough reason damnit.

Rogue may not be my first char I make, or what I'd consider my main, but everything I've seen has me pretty damn excited for building the companions in interesting ways. And my self when I do the few rogue runs I'll do. Again, throwing Knives!

Adhin, rogues will be an awesome class in DAI and it looks like with a lot of flexible options.

Warriors, I will try something more protective, guardian, spirit theme with templar.

Now, mages are killing me. I love mages, but without know specialization trees, I am in doubt.

You mean like putting them to sleep with Knockout Powder and then using Shadow Strike?  That seems to be the case, yes... so far we have seen Eldritch, Impact, and Precision detonators, but the only status effect mentioned has been the very general "Incapacitated."  So I'm guessing that any detonator can effect any type of incapacitation status effect.

hi Patrick, I don't know if you cab answer, but Does the KE actually wield a kind of Summoned sword (as warriors do)?

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

Blade pure spirit energy, held in left hand (staff stays in right). Melee attacks. Amazing work by combat folks.

Well, at least we can essentially get 2/3 specs of a class assuming we use the corresponding companion (all 3 if you're willing to go without a mage or rogue).

Rift Mage vs. Gandalf Mage...decisions decisions....

I like how Rift Mage works, since I love elemental spells. But I love dual-wielding, I love mage-warrior hybrids and I love Gandalf. There's no way I won't choose KE :P.
Glad that I asked Patrick about it, that's an awesome news :).

So if Resurgence is the Focus ability, that leaves only 3 slots...what are they? Walking Bomb? Animate Dead? Horror? I sort of think that might be it, which is...not necessarily bad, but that cuts out a lot of Entropy.

Look at the no. of abilities they've cut, its hardly surprising.
