Interesting. I'm surprised about the winter popularity. There's not much damage - but I suppose the amount of control you have over the field would feel pretty good. I'm so glad they didn't remove ice wall. That's the one spell I REALLY want to use.

However, I'll probably go
Inquisitor: Necro/Storm/Inferno
Dorian: Storm/Winter/Spirit

And whoever else can do whatever. I probably won't bring them along as much.

I doubt that Winter's Grasp or the upgrade from Fade Step will be huge in terms of damage output, but they should both add a decent amount in addition to Chilled/Frozen status.  But what is really catching my eye is Blizzard.  With the upgrade, it does 150% AoE damage per second plus Chilled/Frozen status, all at the cost of 5 mana per second... that sounds pretty good for almost no mana cost.  Now compare that with Lightning Bolt, a single target attack that does 200% damage and causes Paralyze, but at the cost of 65(!!!) mana.  All in all, I think there is a lot of potential in Winter.

edit:  Also, any mage using Blizzard will be 50% resistant to damage because you must take the Ice Armor passive in order to unlock it.

At 0:18, we see what Winter's Grasp looks like upgraded.

It makes me happy.

This smacks to me of an upgraded Winter's Blast too!

I think so, since the Animation seems the same.

Hm... the creature in that picture seems to be "Immune" to something....  since I'm also seeing Frozen and something I can't quite read, could it be immune to Ice?  There's a lot going on, so maybe it's some other attack...

Imagine a full party of mages full storm with stormbringer??? All the lightings!

And... hmmm have you noticed in the newest gameplays, there's no longer "Immunity" it says "Resistance" Does it mean elemental immunities are over?

In this video there is an Arcane Horror that is immune to fear asleep, Paralyze, Physical effects and Poinsoned. At 9:09

Naw, Behemoths aren't immune. In one of the gameplay videos yesterday, I saw a Behemoth that a bunch of health and decently full guard lose almost it's entire guard bar and a decent bit of health in response to a Winter's Grasp from Solas.

At...1:18

Wth?  So it's immune to every form if Incapacitation?  :(

Oh, okay... see I was thinking about Skymaple's question about resistances and immunities a few posts back...

I think I will go

Solas- inferno, spirit and rift tree.
Vivienne - winter, knight enchanter and inferno.
Dorian- storm, spirit and necromancy.

if i have the points, each mage will learn at least one spell from each skill tree. For example, Dorian will have at least winters grasp and immolate despite a focus in storm.

For my inquisitor i think....

Dalish Rift mage- storm, winters grasp, and rift magic. I get the feeling rift mage is our dps spec. I will also try to get at least barrier in spirit tree.

Im still unsure for my necromancer and knight enchanter yet. Will use rift mage as a tester for spells.
For example, a winter /storm mage sounds very potent. Or a spirit / inferno mage sounds powerful too. Add the passives from storm and that's one heck of a mage

Yeah, Storm has some of the best offensive passives... most of them don't require you to be using Lightning to take advantage of them either... I would try to incorporate Stormbringer into my KE, but that almost feels like cheating... xD  300% damage to a random enemy within 25m every 15 seconds... for free.... :0

I love what Solas says in that Behemoth video.

"I like it being out in the forests. It's peaceful."

Aside, of course, from the gigantic freakish bears and red lyrium behemoths that keep attacking, of course. Not to mention all of the fade rifts that spew demons out into the sylvan wonderscape, the Orlesian thugs, the giant spiders, and the like.

But yes, peaceful.

Yes, but those are effects. I mean immunity to types of damage. In the E3 video the venatori were immune to fire. In recent videos, there are no immune enemies, just resistant. That's why I said that maybe they changed it

Maybe it's linked to difficulty level like DA2?

could be :) either way they changed it, I dont think E3 gameplay was in nightmare difficulty. Ooor, venatori are immune and creatures from this area are not. Even the arcane horror is resistant to cold, not immune. Maybe they listened to the DA2 immunity feedback and decided to change it?

What do you guys think the over/under might be on the odds we'll see Knight-Enchanter/Tempest/all the unseen others tomorrow afternoon in Bioware's stream? Any chance that the fact that they'll be showing off spec abilities soon is why a dev like Weekes has been less tight-lipped than before?

I really want to see what the other spec trees looks like now that they've been reorganized/reshaped

I'm sort of predicting that damage potential will be roughly equivalent across the elements with the possible exception of Inferno (there be some crazy damage in that school plus burning damage).

Like, I think Winter's Grasp, Chain Lightning, and Flashfire will have roughly the same damage but differing effects. Maybe?

Sigh. I doubt we'd seem them in action tomorrow, though I think we will see them before the month is out.

Yeah, I think this is accurate. Those three will probably have roughly the same damage.

The only other first tier spell to probably do a hell of a lot more is Immolate.

It gets frozen in the fight so no :P

This was played on hard so I imagine that is why it's immune to so much.

Oop's i didn't notice the "elemental" part. Hmm, well I can't really see them making rage demons not immune to fire. I have to say though, I don't like it when games over use elemental immunity, especially when it's just some random class of enemy being immune to an entire element for no good reason.
