Okay when DA 2 ended i got the feeling that the chantry is being broken down with templars and mages out of their control. I want many here want to see the chantry burnt and religion destroyed. However i think its worth saving. It brings discipline in Thedas. It protected men from communist esque qunari and also launched an exalted march on the elves after they took montsimard. They ofcourse keep the possible terrorist mages in check. I know people point fingers at them for execution of mages. But it is actually blood thirsty templars who murder mages like game using chantry doctrine as an excuse.
i know opinions will differ but i hope BW will give us pro-chantrt guys an option to save and rebuild Thedas.

In the world of Thedas my inquisitor if given the chance willl save the Chantry.

It's a case of which evil is best, and the evil I know is better than the evil I don't know.

I think it's time for a new paradigm. The Chantry was tied too closely to the Orlesian Imperial throne for comfort, and too many of its actions happened to benefit Orlais above everything else. The nation-states are finally starting to come into their own, and really don't need a monolithic religious institution mucking things up. It's time for the Chantry to break up into smaller ones.

Given there was no age of enlightenment in Thedas as of yet the chantry is a necessary evil.

"They shall submit to the Qun"

I feel like today I have the Opportunity to write that very often.

It's worth noting that the Chantry isn't broken, the Circle is.  At it's core the Chantry is the church and the spiritual guide for the people, there is no reason for them to govern over the mages or have there own massive army that can and has overthrown local athorurities they don't agree with.  Look at Kirkwall, not how they treated the mages.  The fact that the Templars appointed Dumar to be Viscount then blocked any attempt to appoint another after his death so that they could control the city show them meddling in the political affairs.  And that is just one of many.  If any thing losing their army and their charges should help to refuse them on praising the maker and helping the poor, not worrying about all those drugged up Templars and stir crazy mages.

Well, the Chantry is fairly broken, with the Templars, the Seekers and the Divine split into three separate factions. It might not be officially dissolved but as an organisation, it's totally fractured at this point.

The Chantry has lost its way, but I can return it to the Maker's light.

Oh and the templars were originally mage killing machines. The chantry prevented them from genociding the mages by signing an accord or sth.

I don't think we'll get a choice.

If BioWare wants it saved, we'll have to save it. If BioWare wants it removed, we won't be able to save it.

I would argue that was the Templar's fault; the Chantry's crime was indifference. The Circle was persecuted.

Not rly but killing all mages would be great way to solve problems that they cause so chantry is going down in my pt.

Well, we'll probably be given a choice that either significantly hinders the Chantry or significantly empowers them.

As a Dwarf I probably wouldn't have a lot of motivation to save something I don't understand.

True; however they adapted the name. In real life, the Knights Templar were tasked with "retaking the holy land" by killing or converting all the darker people. The phrase as we know it isn't essential to how the in game characters know it.

"Andraste is our only Paragon, the Maker is our Stone, and people want to destroy both." Clear enough for a dwarf to get. ; )

I sincerely hope we do get the chance to destroy the chantry.  I get the feeling that the choice however will be stabilize or worsen. Not completely destroy or save, that way in future games they're there but with different dialogue.

I also really hope we can save the chantry OP and also say that we are pro chantry

(until now the developers have just been assuring the anti chantry people that we can act against them)

I'm pretty sure we can influence the Chantry's position but can't truly destroy it. Or save, since it is not really threatened, just weakened

I'll hold it in my arms and try to guard from any danger. As much as I try to stay neutral, I feel that the poor thing gets a lot of hate because people compare it to Christianity, which also gets more hate than it deserves...

I'm not one for the chantry and it's leaders they always seemed cultish and controlling to me...

So as Fiona would eloquently put it... "**** the divine!"
