I think one of Tevinter's main problems though is that the economy would collapse without slavery so even though they might want to be rid if it they ultimately can't.

Sure, but thats still something they should figure out how to get rid of.

You can subjugate a population just fine without slaves.

Ah yes because everyone knows that when you want to rule people, the best way to do that is to kill them all. That way no chance of rebellion! Yes! Truly, you sir have a mind equivalent to, if not greater than, Napoleon himself! By the by, I would appreciate it if you refrained from calling me psychotic and, to clarify, never have I once said that I wanted to kill every non-magical being.

I wasn't implying that. I was implying Bioware wouldn't make a game where you got to wipe out all the Mages in the world. Cuz that's Genocide. And Genocide is Bad, m'kay?

I was implying that you wanted to enslave every non-magical being. Big difference. Still kinda Psychopath behavior.....

Par vollen belong to qunari it is their land...

I was speaking about moment when they conquered tevinter.

Par vollen is the part of Tevinter that they conquered so now it's their land. Direct quote from the wiki-     The Qunari land in Par Vollen which was loosely controlled by Tevinter Imperium and conquer it quickly, unbeknownst to the rest of the continent.[2]

Well thank you for clarifying at least. I think you just need to stop taking what I'm saying so literally. I don't genuinely embrace the idea that 'magic is might' or 'might is right' philosophies or anything like that. All I would like is the opportunity to roleplay (or RP as I was saying earlier) a supremacist mage. Ok? Ok.

I thought you were talking about that par vollen is part of tevinter... but they conquered not only par vollen but also rest of tevinter save for Minrathous (a city).

They lost it pretty quickly then, Found the quote-  The humans have organized themselves and pushed back hard enough that massive rebellions in Tevinter manage to free the Imperium, and the Qunari lines begin to crumble.

Haha ... I'd like to know how they would be able to dominate the qunari for starters

Qunari kept that for over 40 years that's pretty much long time especially if you fight with entire continent.

On a lighter note, I do hope there are things in the game that allow me to decide to do stuff that helps out the Dwarves. I'll be playing a moderate with slightly more mage-leanings myself, but damned if I don't think the Dwarves would benefit from some more help. After all, Cadash is one of Xanthos Aeducan's surface contacts. Plus the Dwarves need a decent presence in the game

My point is though that without magic Tevinter would never have been able to retake it's land and keep Qunari at par vollen, remember these are the only guys that didn't sign the peace treaty.

My own amusement? Entertainment? A change of pace? As Theodoric said (I believe it was him at least), sometimes it's fun to play the bad guy. Normally I'm not a bad guy though; most of my playthroughs, including my canon one, I try to play very human or feasible characters who have their own flaws. I'd just like the opportunity to play something on a very different spectrum is all  :)

If you put it that way, it's possible. I mean dwarves live next tot the darkspwan and are happy with that.

Forgot about the technology too.

I'd like that too actually; one of my favourite epilogue scenes for DA:O was when playing as a Dwarf, you ask the King/Queen to send troops to help Bhelen in the deep roads and they reclaim several thaigs. I thought it was actually one of the more long lasting boons you could ask for as well.

Possible yet without magic tevinter wouldn't be same place as it was same for rest of the thedas much less disasters that weaken country and engagement toward technology.

why would you need technology if you had magic? Also half of Thedas would be in Qunari hands.

As TKS says, because the Qunari already proved that their technology can match the Magisters' power. And technology has more room for improvements that can be applied quickly and en masse.

But that is the problem. Magic is a scarce resource in Thedas and its control depends on the power structure of each society. A magocracy wouldn't be interested in technology not only because of apathy, but because of fear too. It's interesting to note that so far the most interested in Qunari technology have been dwarves (Dworkin and Javaris).

However, if a magocracy would put aside its fears of social revolution and embrace technological progress, they could become one of the most dangerous forces in Thedas. The change would be traumatic, though.

Of course it is they weren't destroyed but they were totally crushed by qunari that took rest of their lands they are still alive probably because of city not magic.
