The trilogy flirted with some different mechanics and styles over the course of its history.  Some worked, some were half baked, and some...eh, not so much (i'm looking at you "stealth" in The Arrival).

Prior implementation aside, what are some of the things that Bioware tried out that you would like to see come back in the next game.  Of course, this implies that it is implemented properly.

I'll pick:

1) Puzzles.

2) Investigation (like Leviathan but better)

3) Stealth mechanics.  Deus Ex: HR, Dishonored, etc.

You?

Well assuming that we would be able to play as other species in the new ME; both in SP and MP; I would like to see more mechanics implemented that would help better define the different aliens as something more then a re-skinned human. Essentially, take the ideas that were present in ME 3's MP and expand upon them.

The mechanics could be subtle; such as a Drell making less "natural" noise while sneaking; to completely different play styles; such as a Rachni's melee oriented combat, without the use of guns or armor.

Do you want ME4 to come out in your lifetime or are you going to wait for the next one?

The challenge here is to understand if this mechanics can work in a game like Mass Effect, that is, a team base game. I'd like some stealth mechanics but in game likes Dishonored that was mentioned in the op you're alone. You can freely move through the level because no one is followinh you. A nicer example would be The Last of Us, that has stealth elements but you're hardly alone. But a closer look into this is required.

So I'll just leave three things that I'd like to see:

- More freedom of movement on the battlefield: I want to be able to climb walls, jump out of ledges and so on.

- More variety in gameplay. Both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 had them, especially in the DLCs. Lair of the Shadow Broker is a near perfect example of how you do a mission, but I believe the core game could use more of that care. Puzzles, exploration, etc...

- More interactive use of your squadmates. Luckly we have a game that does this flawlessly: Star Wars Republic Commando. It's fast pace and simple. It would fit ME gameplay like a glove.

I think it would be awesome if they made use of some of the new gameplay styles they introduced in ME3 MP. It'd be a shame to see the unique character mechanics go to waste and not be expanded upon in future ME games.

For example, I'm obsessed with the Armiger Legion characters (Turian Havoc/Turian Ghost/Turian Saboteur). Killing things on jet packs is wayy too much fun, and the Turian Havoc, for instance, would be an especially fun way to update the Soldier class for a singleplayer campaign.

I would be ecstatic if lets say, ME4 had playable races, and as a turian protagonist, if you were either a soldier/infiltrator/engineer, you could choose to be from the Armiger Legion, and bam, JET SMASH EVERYWHERE

Don't be ridiculous, all of this can be done for the upcoming Mass Effect, provided the devs want to do it…… and they remove all romances  B)

Noo, no removing romances, otherwise, it really wouldn't be Bioware lol.

I do think it could be doable, too. They already made the mechanics for Multiplayer. They have things they can work off of, rather than working from scratch.

I'd like to see a variety of arenas/locales which would encourage different styles of gameplay, not just mostly going through corridor after corridor. Maybe incorporate base infiltration areas in which there could be multiple ways of entry, stealth or full-on firefights. It sounds similar to the MGS series, but I think it would work especially well in the ME universe given that there's such a wide selection of classes and customization/playstyles. Large open areas would be nice too akin to ME1.

Very true. Also BioWare has said that DA:I is going to serve as the basis for future tittles, and the fact that all of EA's developers are going to be using the Frostbite 3 engine, means that assets, textures, animations, etc. can all be interchangeable with zero issues. This means that BioWare doesn't have to reinvent the wheel every time they want to make a new game; heck they could even take the basic human models, animations, etc. from DA:I or Battlefield and they would have most of their groundwork already done.

This would free up more time to devote to other areas; one of which I would like to see being the realization of non-humanoid aliens/creatures into general gameplay. At the very least, I would love to see MP get the asymmetry of differing races to AvP levels; a class of characters that uses guns and cover, along with a class of characters that uses melee and natural weapons for instance.

I'd love to see a more robust implementation of Star Wars: Republic Commando's squad control. A bigger focus on where squad members are rather than just what powers they use.

I'm not usually a big fan of puzzles in shooters, mostly because they can easily throw a wrench into the pacing of a level, but also because they often just feel too "video-gamey." Think ME1's towers of Hanoi puzzle when restarting the AI in Noveria. But puzzles aren't all bad and if Bioware can make them interesting, I'm all for it.

I would love to see some Dead Space 3 style space exploration, flying around on a jet-pack and trekking across the hulls of ships.

And would it kill them if they implemented actual negotiation? Being really nice or really mean doesn't make you inherently convincing. I should have to work if I want to win an argument, remembering facts, and making connections.

More squad interactions and mechanics. So far they have mostly been just extra skills on decoys. Perhaps certain squadmates can toss you extra clips or grenades for you. Perhaps even bypass doors for you so you don't have to.

I would like to see a armour health system. it'd like what most enemies have shield armour then health, i would like use to have that. let me explain a little on how it would work, im not the best with wording things so please bear with me. you got you health with the Medi-gel you use to heal you self with, then you got you armour, it works like a shield heath bar mix, but once it goes all the way down you have to use a repair tool to fix it, now as for as for shields it more of a upgrade you start with a small shield barely takes up have the armour bar we have now then you can choose to upgrade it for more stronger shields or faster recharge. ps sorry if that was long and worded bad im not the best as seen in the past

and playable squad mates like DA and KOTOR

edit and heavy weapons back

Please no forced stealth missions, I believe this is the worst thing a developer could ever do to a game. I kind of dug pretty all of ME3 up to the end so follow that route would probably not be  mistake.

What if some levers had diffrent routes to complete it, like in crysis were you were you can chose to go stealth or distract or just go all juggernaut and slap your enemy in the face whit your assault rifle
