Pretty much this ^, and  a lot of those same guys were complaining about her haircut days before. -_- I think there was a comment about her boobs being odd too. Not all boobs are the same, geez. The immaturity on these thread sometimes...

There was a thread dedicated to her breast actually.

Sera's boobs :D before the title was changed.

That picture of T'pol made it very clear. But if you put the same sort of armour on T'pol, you would get that sort of result.

Just a touch though some are more than others. (but it is hard not to get giddy over a character you find attractive at least it is in my case  :D )

Was in that thread and still didn't see what they meant to be honest ^^; but that thread was closed for a reason so I won't ask anyone to explain it to me again.

I'm not saying all straight dudes who were disappointed about it are racist/sexist/whatever, but we don't exist in a vacuum, and I've seen some of the comments that came out of that particular announcement...

Of course, the male elves who want to keep the race going aren't factored into this. It's unfortunate that you guys have been neglected.

It depends which boards you read. I'm all for set sexualities and I know that means that some characters are not going to fall at my feet and I'm ok with that.

The idea that someone will fall at your feet just because they share your orientation is kind of pushing it to start with.

I don't believe it was ever anywhere near the majority of people, though. It always seemed to me that just as many people like all bi and basically as many didn't seem to care either way. I didn't notice a substantial majority complaining, at least not in the last few months. I joined before sexuality gating was announced and it seemed, before the announcement, most people assumed it would be all bi again and only a handful seemed to have a vocal, negative opinion about it.

That's true. Maybe in both circumstances it was just the loudest people who made the biggest impression.

That said, I've hardly heard *anybody* saying that Sera is an excellent example of what they wanted when they asked for a range of diverse sexualities. At best the comments are things like "well okay, she's a lesbian, but I still wish she was available as a romance option because [insert sexist or racist slur about Cassandra and Vivienne here]".

At the risk of sounding cynical, wasn't a major reason behind the "we want diverse sexualities" stance a desire to wall-off same-sex content behind certain characters and "preserve" others as straight, rather than necessarily being interested in them or their stories?

^ I think you are listening to a vocal minority over most who haven't said anything (or voiced disappointment and moved on) because it's no big deal.

Yeah honestly I really don't think the majority cared either way about the all bi system. BW romances are just a side quest and as long as it's not shoved down the player's throat. whatever.

These forums make minor issues into drawn out smackdowns though.

I think this is definitely the case.

The people who liked the fact Sera was announced as a female-only romance option made a short post saying that they liked it when it was announced and then moved on and talked about other stuff. It's only the people who don't like it who keep going on about it and dragging the topic kicking and screaming into every thread.

That's always the impression I got, but at the same time, I respect the gay and lesbian monosexuals who had problems with it. Even as a bi person, it kind of bothered me that both of the LGBQ+ LIs in Origins were bi, just because it was really obvious that they didn't want to risk depriving their straight audience of any content.

Until you see how she's written no one is going to be able to comment on that. Same with other characters. People are only going on what they know and what they can see.

Would any straight audience touch the bi content anyway? I romanced zev once because I genuinely enjoyed the character
I did it once and just out of curiosity about his arc. And leli just ninjamanced me.

And the only reason I managed to romance the male characters in da2 is because I can safely headcannon that they're straight. For example even if I only romanced anders once. I did not have to hear about his relationship with karl. And again fenris because nowhere in the game it was implied.

Yes, a vast majority of the straight audience has no problem with some characters being bisexual.

Bang on, there are some who just can't let it go...I wonder where they get the energy from because it just drains the crap out of me... oh wait, I just figured it out.

I'm cool with people bringing it up again in humourous ways, humour is the counter.

Because the character is attractive to them.

Leliana was the most popular romance in DA:O. If Verric or Cullen are bisexual, I expect straight women will be all over them.

Why wouldn't they? Just because they could potentially be attracted to women in the same way they could be attracted to other men than protagonist?  I'm a straight male and i had zero problem romancing the likes of Leilana & Isabela.

Bi characters like Leliana and Zev are pretty popular romances.

Do you mean same sex romances?  You bet.  There already plenty of straight posters, men and women both, that have done the s/s romance stuff.

And why would you need to headcanon that?  If they were loyal to you, should it matter if they liked boys or not?  Us bisexuals can and do have monogamous relationships all the time.   ;)

Anyway, Merrill and Fenris were both stated to be ambiguous by WoG, with Anders confirmed as bi no matter what.  The relationship with Karl always happened, the writers just decided that Anders wouldn't be comfortable telling a femHawke.  Which was silly, given the attitudes of Thedas about sexuality.
