Man, I'm glad I didn't believe this when I had a friend in an abusive relationship.
I don't imagine your friend actually agreed starting the relationship with a clear, sober mind that they were alright with the type of abuse they experienced.

In a game you have a very limited number of responses. You can't distance yourself from the person and you can't go report that person to HR. Your kind of stuck with them for as long as the story dictates.
You can't even feed them to a dragon, because they will pop back up after combat is over.
Ok guys been fun having this talks but im gonna go make breakfast and then snooze ha ha. Keep up the good work.
There was a thread in the Feed Back section that was talking about relationships and consequences, I don't know if I would go so far as to murder knife someone over cheating though especially with all at stake.Either break up, forgive, or suggest and open relationship and let it go (though I doubt an open relationship would be possible as anything more than a one time fling) I thought it would be interesting if you cheated on you LI if you had some that were willing to forgive you and some that were not and that depending on who you were with if they did forgive you, you'd have to work back at getting their trust again.
I think an open relationship would be pretty easy. You don't have to much portray who your partner is seeing on the side, if they are beyond the initial confession. It's not important to your relationship with them. To have a poly relationship, meaning you actually have a developed relationship with multiple characters, it would be more difficult to develop all angles. So, most likely, it would just be flings for your and maybe some very vague idea of what your partner gets up to with an open relationship.

I guess I just have a hard time seeing how it would work as a design mechanic like would only certain characters be interested in an open relationship and nothing else? Or would you have to tread that fine line to keep it from going into something more permanent like some players would like to do. Since there are going to be players who want flings and others that want relationships it just seems kind of hard for me to think how both would be balanced without some serious bugs or glitches happening with the dialog unless you made some characters only open to an open relationship and nothing else.

Relationships rarely stay the way they start, even for clear, sober-minded people. Fortunately there was someone willing to judge and not accept the rules of that relationship, and made it their business to intervene.

Open relationships can be very much permanent. It doesn't mean "casual". It can be just as committed and intended towards lasting life long as any other sort of relationship. It just isn't monogamous.
Whether the character would be open to it or not, I suppose would just depend on the character. I imagine it probably would vary. But not much would have to change. The relationship would progress as normal, they just wouldn't have a negative reaction if you took the fling options, like NPC flings, sleeping with other LIs and not triggering their flags (like you can with Isabela, Morrigan, or Zevran in past games) or going to the obligatory brothel. It wouldn't branch the relationship into something else. It would just change their reaction to "cheating" flags.

I can't say what the situation was with your friend or how it related to the "rules" of their relationship, but I can say that every case I've seen of someone doing this was not in any way helpful to the participants. My experience with abusive relationships is that they don't fall inside of any established rules I've seen set. I'm willing to take your word for it if you say your friend was a special case.

I'm sorry permanent was the wrong word it was the first one that come to mind though I meant something monogamous.
Thats why I would worry about bugs and glitches for things like that if the LI was available to either or and there would have to be a few in there if you wanted more than one companion or do you mean like have a companion and sleep with NCPs on the side? Or both? I wouldn't be opposed to something like that in the game though I doubt I'd use it much myself but I'd be more worried about bugged flags with things like that is all.
What if there was a game where you romanced a couple?

I would say once you suggested an open relationship, you just get an open relationship. If you want a monogamous relationship, you don't suggest the open relationship. I don't think they need to complicate it by switching it around again later. It would be easier to just offer the flag once for open or monogamous and stay with it.
I would be happy if you could romance more than one LI to completion, but if the flagging was too difficult, only allowing one companion romance (or one gated per gender, so that nobody could pick them both) that was available to available to open relationships is also fine with me. Outside of that, there could be NPC flings, if you wanted to take them, which have existed in both games so far.

Somewhere in Japan
What if there was a game where you romanced a couple?
I saw a blog post from David Gaider where he talked about this possibility. I would really love to see it happen, myself.

Well that makes more sense whichever you propose would mark that flag for an LI (assuming they'd have an option for both) Yeah if they could get the flagging down right so it wouldn't bug out I don't see any problem having that in the game. So long as they got it to where the flags wouldn't bug then it would only be more options and options are hardly ever a bad thing. I personally didn't know how NPC flings worked in the last games since in DAO I didn't want to tick off my LI and in DA2 I didn't want to spend money and the elf that offers it for free really creeps me out. But if they can find a way to make it work then I'd say it be a nice option and would probably lead to some funny banter as well ![]()

In DA2 there actually is a scene that's something like what I'm suggesting, but less complicated and on specific terms. If you didn't romance Zevran in DA:O and you are in a romance with Isabela, you have a chance to have a threeway with the two, or you can object and Isabela will agree not to sleep with him either. It would have been nice, though, to have a third option of letting her go without being interested, yourself.
Also, Isabela sure loves her elven men, I just realize. First Zevran, then Fenris. Haha. I know Isabela loves nearly everyone, but it seems like they're the two she had the most "established" relationships with outside of the possible romance with Hawke.

Oh... I romanced Zevran in Origins, but still got to have a threesome with him in 2...

I'm Ambiguously-Brown-elf-sexual myself.

I don't know how I forgot about the Zevran thing especially since he's bugged to offer up sex romanced or not. Isabela was one of my favorite LIs in DA2 so I'm not sure how that one slipped my mind^^; that option would have been nice to give it a try just to see her skeptical reaction or humors one.
Well l can't really blame her both Zevran and Fenris have some swoon worthy voices on them ![]()

That was a bug. If you had romanced him, that scenario shouldn't have happened. It was one of the bugs that slipped through the cracks that never got patched. It didn't get patched because EA had BW drop support for DA2 pretty quickly in order to start working on what is now Inquisition.

That's actually a glitch. It's not supposed to happen, but it does. If you romanced him, he's supposed to turn down Isabela when she brings up sex. ![]()
My city elf was not happy with his cheating, my Hawke was up for it though shame Fenris wasn't >>
That was an annoying glitch though threw me off when it popped up during my first playthrough of DA2. I was still in the mindset of my warden at the time so some overreacting mini raging may have happened >>;
I find myself wondering how Sera reacts when cheated on with a man as opposed to cheated on with a woman.
"If my LI wanna end up not so dead, she better not take a man to bed!"
Well, a lot of people have suggested cheating in-game as a plot device, either by you or by another character towards you.
I think it's even more interesting as to what choices you should be given if a character cheats on you. I can't help but think a lot of people would want the murderknife. I've heard them calling for it over less. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with more than being able to kick them. For me personally, I'd love to just be able to suggest an open relationship.
Not a fan of cheating notion either by player or by LI. Jacob thing was extremely cheap and no doubt hurtful to anyone who cared about that relationship.
The idea of an open relationship if it matches the romance interest's charatcer would seem ok. Though it would require player to see LI hooking up with others not solely be a mechanic whereby they could player could hook up with others.
Oh please...please...just don't go there okay. For the love of anything you might believe in (even if it's just yourself,) please drop this subject.
This can only end badly.
All right.
What do you guys think are the chances they'll reveal anyone else in the near future? Like, say, this week?
Well, why stop at couples?
I recall someone wanting to romance dog. Whether they were joking or not I can't really say.
All right.

I doubt in the next week, but I wouldn't be surprised if we hear more closer to the end of the month. At least I hope.
