Racial restrictions as long as they have some sense behind them (lore/canon wise or tech wise) is perfectly fine. Lore wise - Varric isn't into Humans , and Tech wise.. well just saying there is a GIANT size different between a Qunari and a Dwarf and could have some sort of issue.

This could be easily worked around with creative camera shots.
Im not asking for "Hot dwarf on qunari action!". Im asking that my PC can fall in love with who he wishes.

Yeah, BW isn't going to do such things intentionally, but I'm very wary of the fact this sort of thing could easily lead to oversights with things like, say, a lesbian Cadash Inquisitor (or any Inquisitor that is a combo of less "mainstream" race/orientation) getting maybe one actual choice that fits their orientation. Not out of intention, but because race+gender restrictions is complicated enough before you even factor in a player possibly RPing as strictly gay or straight, which cuts options down even further than what the game technically gates off for you.
Again, I'm just gonna call people out on some incorrect assumptions that I feel like are happening. Gaider said that some Race/Gender combos will have more options than others. This could easily mean that a straight female human inquisitor would have 3 options while a lesbian dwarf would have two. I think it's very unlikely that any inquisitor will have zero romance options. Let's not doom and gloom and read way too far into a statement.
They haven't commented on this, but they've stated multiple times that it's very important to them that all players have a choice when it comes to Love interests. This leads me to believe that they would approach creating race-gated love interests with the goal that each Inquisitor has two male and two female options. I could be wrong, but I personally think it's better to be a little optimistic.

So long as I don't get stuck with one or none I can begrudgingly accept the racgating hmm that might not be the right choice of words I will disappointingly accept it still not right but it fits better i just don't want to get stuck with one or none.

True i'll give you that. But I definitely wouldn't turn down IB for my FemDwarf Inquisitor.

Frankly i think it is almost assured that Dwarves will have less content in regards to romance options.
With what we currently know about who is likely available as a romance option, Dwaves and Qunari are looking S.O.L.
I have great sympathy for the developers. This sort of chicken little mentality must be frustrating.
I'll say it again:
Race restrictions let them ADD CONTENT. The main romances will likely be available to all races, but sex and race gated romances mean we get extra romances.

You're probably right, I am being uncharitable in the hope that I'll be proven wrong and therefore pleasantly suprised. Honestly I think some of this would be alleviated by simply knowing how many romances we're getting total, because until yesterday I was absolutely convinced it was six (2/2/2) and obviously even one racegating romance put in place in that scenario would cut at least one straight/gay option for some races down to one. I guess it's got to be eight?
Add in the fact that I'm guaranteed to be playing the less popular races and yeah, I'm wary, perhaps unjustly. You're right in they've said they want all players to have a choice, but that haven't said that they want all Inquisitors to have a choice, and that to me is a rather large distinction. Players can have nearly no choice on one race and choose to switch without having to change their gender/orientation (which are the real life points of contention that Bioware is rightly focusing on giving balance to).
As I said, quite prepared to be pleasantly suprised. But bracing myself for the possibility of a no-romance first run.

Exactly! I honestly believe varric will be a romance...to dwarves. But otherwise he wouldnt have been a romance at all.

Dont insult me.
Adding content doesn't mean anything if most of it is restricted for any given Character.

Having romance options be determined by race is a good thing because it adds variety. For example a human character might get romance dialogue that differs from a elven, dwarven,or qunari character.

Technically that would just be if they were race reactive, not race gated. We had reactive in DA:O (where the LIs would say different things/you'd get different banter depending on your race when you were romancing somebody). Gated just means (in your example) that the human gets romance dialogue and the others don't get any at all ![]()
You're right in that it may allow those romances that do exist to be far more specific in tone, though.

I don't believe they've ever said that your PC can't fall in love with who he wishes. Or even that they removed the flirt options.
Your PC might not be loved back, and so be doomed to be forever alone... but that's quite a different thing from your PC falling in love with who he wishes.

Where on earth do you get that most of it is restricted for any given character?
Source, mind you. An article, or dev quote, anything concrete to substantiate the claim.
