I'm not disputing this, but I've yet to find a single woman who thinks that m/m action is hot, so I don't think it's as prevalent as f/f 'appreciation' amongst men.

Be careful with anecdotes based on personal experience.  They are powerful to our mind, but our own experiences are such a small subset of reality and over reliance on them is often what leads to incorrect assumptions.  There's also a degree of sexual objectification that goes on too (a lot of f/f action depicted in media is, for example, also construed as an invitation for men.

Much of my personal experiences while growing up were very heteronormative, but a lot of that is also because being gay was something that would get you teased and so forth.  So based on my experiences, I'd likely underestimate the prevalance of non-heterosexual identities.

I guess it was maybe people specifically asking for a qunari female romance without there being an major female qunari characters that it went straight to 'I want to romance one' with hardly any talk about why? Though that's only a guess and I only have some old posts I saw from my lurking days to go off of here. Shame that everyone who might be interested in it got lumped together though, reminded me of when I saw someone shaming people for wanting a dwarf romance because according to them 'dwarves looked like children' because short=child? Either way its a tough break and maybe we'll get an awesome qunari female character in one of the games (I've really warmed up to them personally after seeing how they look in game and am glad they don't look so 'amazon pin up model')

Same here. I was pretty ignorant tbh. Ironically, it wasn't until my first girlfriend (a hetero relationship btw) that I got to really see the gay experience.. since her best friend was gay.

My bf and I talked about it while drunk-ish. Curiosity is there but its not something we consider doing.

You seem to be thinking that if your boyfriend was bisexual, he'd be encouraging you to do more than doing things exclusively with each other.

For instance, if I were in a monogamous relationship with a bisexual woman, I wouldn't expect what we do to be different than if I was in a monogamous relationship with a heterosexual woman.  That she's bisexual simply means that, if single, she'd be open to relationships with men or women.  That doesn't mean she wants to do anything with anyone other than me while in a relationship with me.

Well, let's be honest; when the only female qunari character they've presented us looks like this;

284px-Tamassran_-_Those_Who_Speak.png

Do they really have the right to be surprised that there's going to be some fetishizing going on?

I don't know; it's been a long while, so I'm probably misremembering things, and if I'm not, I was probably imagining them in the first place, but there did seem to be just a general tone of condemnation for the concept. Like he was lumping everyone who wanted a female qunari romance into the "fetishist" camp.

Like I said, probably bad memory or an imagined slight.

I found the thread you all are talking about. Here's a link to the Bioware only posts.

I posted this in another thread, but it is relevant here too: :D

I was just thinking... so you can either be gay, straight, or bi right? It's 2 sides of the same coin, romancing a guy or a girl. What if the race gates extend to EVERY LI. Because if you think homosexuality locks certain inquisitors out of the romance, wouldn't heterosexuality do the same?

Am I making sense?

I hope in the next comics with female Qunari, they are not doing that design anymore. That would be ridiculous when we see how turned the female qunari in DA:I.

UGH, stuff like this is what's keeping me from reading the comics.

EDIT: This design belongs on BABD. Maybe I'll do a Female Armor Bingo for it.

I don't think David was surprised.

Just because a comic artist presents female qunari as ******-fodder does not mean David supports a bunch of forumites doing the same or will want to create a romance for those who do.

After all, this is Dragon Age, not Mass Effect. <.<

Edit: Huh, that's an asterisk word.

True it is a romance thread and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't like to eventually get a romance with each possible race it would be interesting to explore but to me at least but I'd really like to see an NPC of them first and maybe get a different look at their culture from their side since all the qunari we've seen so far are male (not counting Talis since I"m talking about qunari as a race)

I know a lot of people enjoy that look on them but I can I just say I'm very glad that they looked like they are build far more sturdy looking in game. Seeing her right next to a male qunari honestly made me laugh the first time I saw it due to how freaking frail she looked so I'm glad they changed in game or at least made it to where you don't have to have a beauty queen qunari female PC. But yeah I can see how fetishizing can happen from that but then again I know someone who can fetishize just about anything *has terrible flash backs of watching Disney films with them* I need to get back to repressing that if you'll excuse me.

I'd just argue for more races period. Not necesaarily a female Qunari romance. They have too rich of a world to keep expecting us to want a lot of humans. I like humans (hell, I am one :D), but...

Thank you.

Relevant post by Gaider;

As for a romance, I certainly hope the origin of such a request is that there's some aspect of qunari culture which someone finds appealing in a romance character. The alternative is too fetishistic to be appealing to me-- that they don't really care for any aspect of personality or temperament beyond the character being a tall, muscular woman. The idea that such a character should exist solely to indulge such a fetish is, in fact, exactly the sort of thing that would make a writer like myself disinclined to ever provide the option.

This is, in my opinion, a rather judgmental view of it. I'm very quick to argue that there are more important things in a relationship than physical attraction, but I'm not going to deny that it's often the first thing that, well, attracts you to someone.

I think there's an understanding that any companion bioware produces is going to have some depth to them. I think Bioware has earned that understanding by writing some of the most indepth characters in gaming. So I don't think it's unreasonable for it to be an unspoken understanding that were there to be a female qunari on the team, she'd be a character with some depth and personality.

I'm also not overly judgmental towards those who want one companion as an LI over the other options based on looks.

Eh, she's one qunari. I don't imagine they all have the same build, nor do I imagine those who don't have overly physical roles in the qun to be physical powerhouses.

Playable races all have one build based on gender and race, but you can certainly change the face.

Maybe so but it still made me laugh when I first saw it then sad when I tried to look up a female Saarebass*sp* then really noticed the difference. Though honestly I know literally nothing about that character in the image so I can't say much on it since I've never picked up the comics or books or anything other than the games themselves. I"m still happy that I can make a female qunari if I want that isn't going to look like a curvy gray human with horns or as I've called it before a sexualized grey Demona (disclaimer: Demona rocks and so does Gargoyles)

That's due to the developers not wanting to spend resources in putting multiple body types in. I'm aware of this.

But story wise, lore wise, every human male is not the same height. Every human female does not have the same bust size.

With that in mind I see no reason to believe that, story wise, all qunari have the same build, nor all elves or dwarves.

All the non human races are running into a snag one way or another. It's just not just Qunari. Straight male elfs who want to romance elves, dwarves in general (Varric is an unknown at this point). All left with a lot of unknowns at this point.

Might just be ME. But I see nothing wrong with the design of the female in the comics. Why are you making such a big deal over nothing?
