So it's fine if the male Qunari are wearing nothing but it's not okay if the females aren't. Ok.

Usually muscularly drawn males in various medias without shirt are still for male audience and it's for power fantasy when female without many clothes is aimed for male audience as well, it's sexual fantasy. Both are often done for male audiences, for example old superhero comics. This has changed lately though and girls have got something for themselves too but the sexy female and strong male stereothypes are still used a lot.

OK, time to geek out, but they should only be worried about vitals against combatants with high Cunning. In which case, that'd mostly be rogues. Who can go down pretty quick from a qunari onslaught (unless you're Hawke and use Decoy... then the Qunari are just stupid and hit that dummy for days.... but umm... that's another issue).

They were not in the tropics at Kirkwall that's all I'm saying, if they can get a supply for endless spears surely they could get something to strap over their chest and protect themselves better.

Culture. Not being used to wearing armor. Difficulty getting armor, having been part of a shipwreck. Yes, they had spears, but they likely brought those with them or made them on the spot. They're not that hard to make, and they would have known how to. As opposed to armor.

I'm not disputing this, but I've yet to find a single woman who thinks that m/m action is hot, so I don't think it's as prevalent as f/f 'appreciation' amongst men.

Visit any modestly active fanfiction or art site on the Internet.

Hell, all you have to do is browse around here.

There is absolutely no shortage of females who like guy on guy action.

Some of my female friends who play dragon age were also disappointed. They like to be considered attractive when they play their characters in rpgs. ( I do to with my male characters to be honest ). They will stick with humans or elves. To each its own.

Yep this is me. I'm pretty sure I can tweak the FemQunari's face to my liking but if the facial options are still in the same ballpark I'll sigh roll human female and move along.

I don't want to play a femPC I find unattractive. Nor a male one.

I know, as a woman, I'm supposed to argue against the sexualization of female characters in entertainment mediums, and normally I do...

But I like playing as characters I consider attractive. Based off the comics and original concept art, I had interest in playing a female qunari. After the E3 demo, I do not. There's obviously some women who feel differently, so this is just me.

Same.

Agreed. You're not the only one. I'm going to see if I can tweak her too my liking in the CC. If that's impossible I'll shrug and roll human.

So if we see a half naked female qunari that looks powerful and strong, and made for female audience in mind ( not sure what that means ) it's okay if the female qunari are half- naked ?

I'd like to understand how that change the fact that the male qunari are overlysexualized as much as the female qunari ?

One of these half-naked qunari was drawn to look powerful and scary. One was drawn to look sexy.

Are you honestly saying you don't see a difference?

Thank you.

Again, they come from the tropics. Wearing a lot of armor there isn't practical.

If they were really considering practicality, female qunari would be dressed like this (arguably nsfw, because double standards).

Not at all. But why is being sexualized wrong, in and of itself?

Finding something to strap on your chest simple armor would not be that hard especially if you consider that they had been building their numbers by taking on converters I'm sure at least one of them knew something about how to make a simple something to strap on over your chest to at least protect your heart, but this thread is starting to get derailed here but I'll say this last thing if you still wish to discuss it with me feel free to PM me.

Honestly...the half dressed Qunari are stupid regardless of gender. I'm not sure why people are trying to say one looks more ridiculous than the other. To me it's pretty equally in the "wtf were they thinking with this design." box.

As I said, not wearing armour could be a means of showing their enemies that they don't fear them.

It's not, necessarily, if it's evenly applied to other genders. Men are very rarely sexualized in media, as opposed to women, who have a very hard time getting away from it.

Could be a way of showing that they don't fear their enemies.

Kind of like how the Uruk Hai in the LOTR films only had front-facing armour (i.e. their backs were completely unarmoured) with the idea being they wouldn't need it, as they would never turn and flee in battle.

Never seen the LOTR films so I'll take your word on that but sounds like they still had armor on may not have covered everything but still covered some vitals.....and I'm continuing to help derail the thread apologies I just felt like I should respond. (I have seen armor where the backs are not covered which I still find a little odd but at least its armor covering something) Okay I'll drop it now for real this time :)

I've speculated that the lack of qunari armor is part of a costs/benefits analysis on their part; armor is expensive to make, armor of any quality needs to be custom fitted for each individual, and it's expensive to maintain, and it's absolutely useless against magic, and the qunari's primary enemies are magic users.

I think at some point they sat down and said figured that it wasn't saving any lives and was costing them materials they could be putting towards other things.

I don't know. I don't have a strong opinion on this matter. However I do have a strong opinion against double standard.

Besides, Normally, Qunari shouldn't be half naked, their warriors wear heavy armor. It is said in the lore.

The picts were a Celtic tribe that managed to keep the Romans out of modern Scotland, in spite of the latter having the best professional army of their time. They had male and female warriors who painted themselves blue and went to battle naked. Like, completely naked.

The moral of this story? You don't need armor to kick ass.

Men are very rarely sexualized in media,

I beg your pardon?

When was the last time you saw a heroic, strong, cool male character that didn't have a chiseled jaw and abs you could knock on?

Name someone who isnt Tyrion Lannister.

Yeah...she should probably still be wearing something supportive for her breasts. The bouncing can become uncomfortable during heavy activity (which she seems to partake in a lot).

Michael Keaton as Batman.

Funnily enough, Tim Burton first wanted to cast Bill Murray as Batman. That would have been awesome :D

I don't know, but I think the reason people didn't wear too much armor in the past, was because they didn't have enough resources to create armor for an entire army, no? I have no idea about history (so please correct me if I'm wrong!), but I really can't wrap my head around the fact that it's practical to run into battle half naked against someone who has, for example, a spear/sword/etc  in his hand that could kill you in one swing.

Not at all. But why is being sexualized wrong, in and of itself?

The person is seen as an object of lust. That's dehumanizing.

The problem I have with the female qunari is that she's standing next to this big, buff guy. She on the other hand looks completly un-frightening, totally defensless and weak plus that revealing attire. He is meant to show power and strength, but she's doing the opposite. Typically oversexed representation of a woman in fantasy, if you ask me.

SO. What was this whole conversation about again, a female qunari love interest? Romance? Maybe?

That's mostly power fantasy for boys. If girls get to decide media would be full of bishounen men with their androgynous looks :P

Yup, a lack of armour isn't unprecedented, even in RL. I'm not sure why it's such a big deal.

See...I don't get what's so weak about that female Qunari in the picture. She looks lofty, arrogant and like she's turning her nose up at someone. I don't see weakness.

Meanwhile the dude doesn't even look like he has any expression other than Grrrr. He's buff but he's not doing anything. I don't see anything other than a gargoyle in his face.

*shrugs* that's just me though.

That comment was towards the men and women talking about wanting to romance a female qunari. He's also talked about not getting the Varric love and finding people talking about dwarves as love interests odd.

That said, he may be hesitant to publicly rebuke a group of women for being attracted to a certain body type and talking about it in a fetishistic manner.

To be honest, I think they're both sexy.   ;)

A bit off topic, though, but there's no denying that her attire flies right in the face of what Sten said in DAO about Qunari females being conservatively dressed.
