Dragon Age II still has the best sex scenes. They aren't the most *sexy* scene, but each one is a reflection of the character's personality. Isabela is playful and rambunctious, Merrill is tentative and sweet, and Fenris is having hate sex even when he's not angry.

It's fine for a sex scene to be erotic and have nudity, but it should also convey something more than 'they had sex and it was hot.'

(Personally, I expect the Iron Bull's sex scene to feature lots of wall banging and the bed breaking in half at the end.)

That's an excellent point, and it's also been my view about whatever BIoware chooses to portray: sex scenes are still character building scenes. Whether or not they're titillating is very much a side effect; their purpose is to reveal more about the characters participating in them. Which is why I think that there should be some degree of player involvement in defining what the PC is doing in the scene - the problem is that I can't think of a way to do that that doesn't basically turn the who thing into a kind of terrible interactive sex scene.

Apparently only that guy is aware it exists.  :P

In Origins at Howe's estate it's possible to walk in on a guard who's getting a ****** from one of the serving girls. Most awkward way to fail a stealth mission ever.

Edit: so apparently I can't say ******. Um, receiving oral sex? Does that pass the filter?

Edit: Yes. Yes, it does.

Maybe at some point in this conversation the characters could also invent oral sex. The Inquisitor could then be a hero for two reasons: (a) saving the world from a literal apocalpyse; and ( B) introducing more awesome ways to have sex.

I'm going to assume your joking but I'm going to say something anyway. I really don't think any of the romances need sex honestly you can have romance without sex, I think they tried something like that with Sebastian but they forgot to throw in the actual romance part since at least to me his romance felt kind of cold and lacking (and I personally didn't like my Hawke's comments about 'doing' Sebastian with her brother right there. Though even if sex was taken out of the romances I'd still like to see something along the lines of a kiss or hug. Hopefully I made some sense at least with that little ramble. (also not directing this at you In Exile just wanted to use your post is all :))

That kind of makes sense though. Fenris is a very private and prideful person. Him only letting a romance Hawke see him that vulnerable is fitting. With friendship or rivalry it could be Fenris tentatively trying to reach out despite walking out that night and giving Hawke plenty of room to reject him while still wanting to have some of Hawke's attention and affection.

But you're not cut off from offering to teach him to read regardless if your in a relationship or not you can still offer and he'll still learn I just thought it was a weird thing to make into a flirt especially when your trying to do a Sebastian run and can't flirt with anyone at all, I felt like I was being a jerk to him even with the humorous response. Now it would make more sense to me if he say rejected the offer to learn how to read to a Hawke he wasn't romantically involved with but he didn't. It's not a major problem to me just something that felt really odd.

I'm not joking about oral sex being awesome, or that it would be a pretty major coup for Thedas when someone introduces it.  :P

I do agree with you, however, that romances should have to the option to be asexual, and that people shouldn't be obligated to have a necessarily sexual relationships (though I do think that since sex does matter to characters, it's important to find a middle ground).

Since Thedas is a medieval setting, we should obviously use appropriate language like... "enjoying the company of her mouth".  ;)

Really? I thought you only got the book comment when clicking on the books if you romanced him. Hm.

Though yeah I know it's a heart icon. That just suggested to me it's romance related.

Ah true it would make more sense if he just turned Hawke down. I guess it's because you can still start the romance with him in act 2? =/ DA2's dialogue is really weird at times.

This explains why there have been so few lesbians in Thedas previously.

Oh I meant the having the PC introduce it since budget most likely wouldn't go that far for romances ^^;

I see what you mean for some characters it has its place but it would be nice for some people to have the option not to or if they are going to go down the road of giving us a chaste romance that they do not forget the romance part of it like they seemed to have with Sebastian.

Well my game is probably bugged but I get that comment during every playthrough regardless if I even pick up the gift and offer it to him to begin with. I suppose that does make sense but its just annoys me slightly that offering to teach him how to read is somehow taken as a come on (at least thats what it kind of implies with it being a flirt option) Though now that I think about it I"m wondering why Isabela and Fenris don't get extra romance scenes with Hawke like Anders and Merrill do the only reason I can think of is because they aren't living together but it still seems a little odd. Hmm oh well.

Yeah I think that's bugged once you get it on one game you get it on all the rest. Happens with me in Skyrim too oddly enough.

I didn't see it as a comeon though.

It makes me think Fenris extra scene was going to be teaching him how to read and Isabela's extra scene one where Hawke notices her dodging him and fails to confront her. Least that's the impression her act 3 dialogue gave me. *shrug* But they got cut for resource reasons.

Odd I got that before I even attempted to romance Fenris *shrugs*

Would have been nice to see them especially teaching Fenris to read that probably would have melted my heart a little but oh well whats done is done, maybe there will be a 'just a little thing' romance scene in this game who knows.

Sex scenes in gaming add more realism and depth to the game IMO. I feel like Bioware could push the rating more but ****** Fox news would be all over their asses. I mean, ME1 barley showed anything(side boob, that's it) and Fox has to call it Sex Effect?! For real!? One scene and it's branded porn?! GTFO Fox. Devs shouldn't be afraid of news misinterpreting the game because the news journalists aren't the ones buying the games, the players are.

Some days I wish America turned into Somalia for a week.

Then Fox news could put things in perspective. Let them see what it looks like when the Sky is TRULY falling.

edit: Eh, even if it happened, they'd probably forget anyways.

Just gonna add my two cents to what I think this meant... I think it's less that the writers don't want to write a Qunari romance because people might fetishize it and more that they aren't going to write a romance solely because a subset of people find that particular character model attractive. The same goes for any race, they aren't gonna add a dwarf romance just because "Hey, some people like dwarves!". If they add a dwarf romance it will be because they developed a dwarven character that they think will make a good romance.

This is my impression as well.  As Luke mentioned in the Sera thread, we do try to create characters first.

Maybe I just forgot?
