I... don't remember anything about Fenris not knowing how to read. I mean, I romanced him, but...?
Maybe I just forgot?
You just have to loot the gift to get the dialogue. Act 2.. A book about Shartan.

Idk maybe it was just me but i really liked the Fenris romance. Its up there with Garrus.

Definitely not just you! Fenris romance was my favorite romance in both games.
Ugh, now I have to go back and replay Act 2...

I really, strongly dislike Fenris, but I can't help but love him. It's really annoying.
Zevran and Isabela are superior though.

I hate to spoil it, but the book is at night, in the Alienage, in some lootable rubble. ![]()

Lies and slander! I will have satisfaction, sir! Draw your sword and fight!

Nah, it's fine. I'll just go back in time real quick, gift him, and be done. Then it's back to romancing Isabela again. (´ε` )♡

Tch, I have daggers. Assassin forever.

Yeah, Isabela's my favorite of the bunch. Or riding it out solo (and pining for Aveline heh).

I prefer my mage staffs and long swords

As much as I actually like Fenris, I've yet to actually complete his romance yet no idea why though since he has such a wonderful voice ![]()
I think people overstate the impact of the Mass Effect sex controversy.
I certainly think so too. I always crinkle my brow and give it the sideeye when it comes up. I imagine if the impact was anything of an impact we'd have seen less romance in ME2 rather than more.
One of the best things about romancing Fenris for me was going completely pro-mage by the third act without the slightest regard for his approval rating. That's the awesome thing about DA2 romances - you don't have to pretend to agree with your LI once they like you enough.
...Which is kind of bad, actually. Erm.

I don't care about the impact (or lack thereof). It's just natural to make fun of Fox News whenever they come up. It could be about anything really. Jon Stewart has built his whole career on this.
edit: Anyways... ![]()

I was able to largely avoid it. I read gaming webcomics, so that's how I even knew it was a thing. I don't watch those particular news channels that like to talk about headlines like "SexBox," so it was very easy to avoid.
Dragon Age II still has the best sex scenes. They aren't the most *sexy* scene, but each one is a reflection of the character's personality. Isabela is playful and rambunctious, Merrill is tentative and sweet, and Fenris is having hate sex even when he's not angry.
It's fine for a sex scene to be erotic and have nudity, but it should also convey something more than 'they had sex and it was hot.'
(Personally, I expect the Iron Bull's sex scene to feature lots of wall banging and the bed breaking in half at the end.)
Agree i liked DA2's scenes(as they successfully conveyed message). Loved Isabelas's playful and rambunctious sequence much more than origins LI approach. Though i do feel it would have been nice to have a further act 3 small sequence when the romance is at a more concrete confident stage for contrast, given the long time frame of game.
I like Witcher 2 Triss sequences but I don't view nudity to be a pre-requesite or only way to be rewarding.
For me the ultimate pay off for romance is just when that music hits man and you know just i dont know what you know but you know! I dont have words to describe that feeling other than well **** that was sooooo worth it. Very few games hit that mark. Where you see two people even if there game people connect.
I object to pg-13 sex in an 18 rated game. Especially when the violence is so over the top. Best scene would be FFX where you get sudeki da ne playing in the background. Followed by that game we are not allowed to talk about.Followed by numerous JRPGs. Bioware scenes look awkward like they don't really want to be there.

I completely disagree. Absolutely no one has a leg up on JRPG's as far as awkward romance scenes go.

Depends on the game.
Depends on the game.
For the most part romance in most Japanese games/movies/shows etc always feels very contrived to me. There are some exceptions I can think of, but comparing them to Bioware in term of what feels more natural? Not even a fair fight. Maybe that's because I have a very Western mind and am a product of where I was raised, but still, as far as scenes feeling organic, JRPG's lose in my opinion.
Valkyria Chronicles' romance is one of (if not the) best i've ever encountered in a game. and that's from Japan.

FFIX and X are both awesome with romance. I can't think of any other memorable romances I care about from any other JRPGs, but there are a few good ones out there.
