Origins is the only game I've ever installed a nude mod for, because I just couldn't cope with the ridiculous underwear sex scenes. Apart from anything else, I kept getting distracted by wondering where all the female characters got identical underwire bras from in what is meant to be a pre-Industrial world.

This did lead to some hilarity with various naked prisoners and Cailan's corpse when I forgot to use a certain toggle before meeting them, but it was still less hilarious than Morrigan putting on a bra just to have sex.

I kinda did this too because the lack of underwear felt more natural to me in that setting, until, like you...I went back to Ostagar, I was quite traumatised..."OMG I'M SO SORRY YOUR MAJESTY!" *uninstall*.

That is somehow worse than the werewolves' magically summoned clothes?

The problem is that the male nude model has quite a morning glory, so when they turn human they seem...very happy to.

Oh and Calian, what a cadaveric rigidity !

Well, their curse was just broken, anyone would be *very happy* if that happened to them ;)

Plus it would have made it really awkward and really funny if when they turned human and while talking  to you, they were butt naked! Especially if you were a dwarf!

I romanced Kaidan, Thane and Garrus in ME and I remember that I only saw Kaidan without a shirt in ME1. I have romanced only Fenris in DA2 and he had all the clothes on. So it would be nice to see more men without a shirt at least :)

How do scenes like that even make it into a game?

I'm assuming that when the writer put pen to paper he or she didn't have Traynor or Shepard showering while clothed, because no one actually does that. Ever. If it was a case of the devs responsible for bringing those scenes to life saying "We don't have the time or resources to create separate nude models for these characters," shouldn't the scene have undergone a rewrite so that it wouldn't be an issue? Get rid of the shower and have the romance scene play out differently, so that clothing isn't an issue.

Maybe it's a fetish thing. Although more likely it's just an oversight.

It wasn’t for long, since my Warden was a female city elf, who didn’t take well the reason they were cursed to begin with.

What followed was wihout any doubt the most hilarious fight in the whole franchise :P

This is a very good question; is the right hand just not talking to the left hand on this one? You'd think there'd be some coordination here.

Or when you free the werewolves...Jesus that looked like the beginning of a hentai.

I also had a game where Alistair seemed very happy to have found the Sacred Ashes.

(To be fair, my female Warden and Leliana were both standing there stark naked too, so maybe that one makes sense ...)

The thing is, though, violent themes have already more or less been accepted in society.  Having worked at a movie theater, parents in general were always far more concerned with Little Timmy being exposed to sex and nudity than gratuitous violence.  A guy can get disemboweled and decapitated and no one cares.  Show Dr. Manhattan's genitalia and suddenly everyone's up in arms, walking out in the middle of the movie all offended.

What's interesting to me is that the developers of Outlast didn't shy away from anything -- they could've easily slapped a few scraps of clothing on their characters and avoided any potential outrage, but they didn't.  I was impressed not only with that move, but also the gaming community's generally mature response to it.

I digress, though.  It's ultimately up to Bioware, but I agree with FF and others that if you're gonna do sex scenes, even just brief scenes to imply what's happening, there's a way to handle the nudity tastefully -- most notably, with camera angling.

There's really no denying that the way they've gone about censoring things in the past with clothing, etc. only made something intended to be deep and meaningful turn laughably stupid.

That depends on the country you live in. In my country its the other way around. We have nudity in our tv commercials. Even in some of our cartoons. We are, however, much more critical about violence in our media.

I also agree that nudity can be handled tastefully. I consider all of Liaras love scenes to be good examples. She was always nude without showing the player her naughty bits and Shepards underwear was unnecessary in my opinion.

Liara's love scene in ME3 wouldn't have been tasteful if FemShep had no underwear.

ME1 managed it, but only because Shepard went and got dressed for the talking, which was a bit odd.

I always thought ME1 was like watching a stripper. Disguising nudity with plant pots and pillows and stuff reminds me of comedy.

Why must we?

Because variety is the spice of life?

I dont think anyone is saying you "must". Just that it would be nice.

Yea, they're meant for tossing :P

You're a terrible fiend and should be ashamed of yourself.

As for Shep ending up dressed I assumed the LI fell asleep and Shep got dressed then.

What does a love scene need to be tasteful in your opinion, or what was wrong with the love scene in ME3 which made it not tasteful anymore?

I just ask ONE thing... remove underwear. If you can't show butts and ******, use some blankets instead.

Fade to black people.

It will always be the easiest and less silly option to take.

Honestly I would prefer it if, instead of investing all kinds of time and energy into making one giant sex scene finale they took more opportunities for affectionate or romantic gestures THROUGHOUT the game. Hand holding, flirting, kisses on the cheek, even just more opportunities to talk with them. If they did that then the sex scene just fading to black without any fancy underwear or awkward animations wouldn't somehow feel unsatisfying I think.

Agreed. The sex scene means pretty much nothing to me. It's the leadup that's important.

I agree with this.

Im in it for the romance and the dialog, not some partially clothed, soft core sex scene.

if i want to see sex, i assure you, i know where to look.

Narrative climax. Not showing is the equivalent of developing a conflict between two characters and then have their final showdown and/or the resolution happen off screen.

Or so you could argue.

There is a lot you can show to get the message of "hey, these two characters are having sex" without needing to be graphic and still ultimately fading to black.
