That's why I loved the Kaidan romance in ME3, it is very clear that THE scene with Kaidan was the last of many. It gave the whole thing a nice sense of fullness.

I really hope we get to see some kind of romantic resolution after the end of Inquisition. I mean, DAO kind of had it with the coronation scene, but not really...? I wanna see Issala and Cassandra settle down somewhere or something like that.

What does "romantic resolution" even mean? The only time a romance resolves itself is when it ends; either from a break up or from one party dying.

I've mentioned before how I adamantly believe that sex should not be treated as the culmination of a relationship because sex isn't the culmination of a relationship. It's a part of it, a milestone for it, but it isn't the end all be all and should never be treated as such.

 

I actually thought DA II handled that well.  You had the sex scene, or fade to black, in the middle of the game in Act II and it didn't just end the romance.  I liked the small scene at the end right before you fought Meredith with your companion where it actually gave you an achievement for the romance-it seemed like it was setting up what was to come in the future, that your LI would remain at the PC side and whatnot.  DA:O I thought did it fairly well, too, depending on the romance.  Particularly since Zev's sex scene was so early in the game.

Things tend to end so badly (romance or otherwise) in Bioware games that I'd actually like to see them try something else. Everyone wants to scoff at happy endings like they're pedestrian and typical, but they aren't here at least.

 

Yep. One gets tired of the angst after a while. Though DA2 romances (with the exception of Anders cause Anders) seem to have ended rather well. Hopefully we don't play DAI and realize Hawke got split up from his/her LI somehow.

I hope so too. It'd be great to see Anders, Fenris, Isabela, or Merrill with Hawke in the scenes that has Hawke. I didn't add Sebstian because Varric never says they stick together so could go either way.

I think I'd rather have them not show up than get a cameo where they're separated.  If Hawke has to disappear, why can't their LI disappear with them?

Yeah, Sebastian is the only LI where Varric doesn't go "...well, except for *insert LI here*" when he talks about the gang splitting.

I'd be open to seeing Isabela again in my Fenris/Hawke playthrough. Better yet, Isabela and Zevran, for yet another threesome (or foursome, depending on your LI).

Stories end. I want the romance to have a good ending.

 

I have reservations, though, about sharing too much about what the player character does after the end of the game since it poses risks to player agency.

 

I think it needs to be handled carefully.

I liked the way Origins did it. If you survived, you get to tell Alistair what your plans are, you can talk to your companions and decide to travel with them or say goodbye, you can even choose to go to Seheron with Sten.
