I'd be very surprised if the gay/straight love interests had race preferences. ( I hate the term"gated" it feels incredibly negative). It jay makes less fiscal sense for Sera to have race restrictions than say, for a bisexual IB. Cutting Sera off to dwarves saves them animating one scene, cutting IB off saves them two. I think we can expect most romances to have gender preferences or species preferences, not both.
This is an excellent point that hadn't occured to me. I'll be very happy if this is the case, especially if we have eight romances rather than six.
Yeah, I thought this was what you meant.All right, I think people are starting to think that the word restriction means "This character will romance exclusively this race and nothing else." That needn't be the case.
I also think some people are thinking that "This means race X can only romance other people of the same race!" Which also doesn't have to be the case.
There's 4 races the player character can be. If all the romances are available to all races with the exception of 1, then "race restrictions exist" is still true.
Of the shown characters, Varric is a dwarf. We're not going to say "The only option for dwarf PCs is Varric" (there's no guarantee that Varric is even a romance option). So unless we were having no romances for dwarves (we aren't), then I think there's a pretty decent chance that there will be non-dwarf NPCs that have no problem hooking up with a dwarf inquisitor, just by playing the odds.
Oghren would sleep with anyone without a Y chromozone; he wasn't a romance option.
I though he mentioned in Awakening not being attracted to human or evles since they're too scrawny. He seemed to prefer the rear ends on dwarven women.
Varric or Dagna?
Mind you, Allan didn't say that there aren't dwarves romances. He said that dwarf PC have access to other type of romances as well. It was more about the concern of dwarves getting the short end of the stick.
I think Varric have high chances to be a LI.

I think that this is why there is such a divide here. Neither side is right; it's just that one way serves one group better and the other way serves the other group better. DA: O and DA: I serves a different group in this respect and DA 2 served the other.

We have to pick our battles in terms of being fair, because the only real way to be "fair" would be to have no romances (and possibly maybe having all characters be romanceable by any player character) because it's the only way that no one person is given any sort of preferential treatment over romances. I think it's safe to say that we aren't doing that with DAI.

The idea that we are doing things this way in direct response to complaints is overstated. The primary reason that the romances in DA2 were all bisexual is because we were only writing 4 romances, and we wanted everyone to have choice. If we're writing more than 4 romances, that restriction needn't be as strong.

If Dagna got enough screen time to be an option... I just... seeing as how she's an artificer in this game I'd really really like her to be a companion or NPC in one of the next games...

In a perfect world we would have 4 Straight , 4 Bi , 4 L/G romances , there everyone would have a large pool to choose from and SHOULD have someone they like.

True. She's just as likely as Scribbles for a possible romance. I guess she's more or less our chief engineer.

Agreed,everybody wants that dwarf and his chest hair.I remember him even lampshading it during DA2.
Wow. In retrospect, remember the blissful fog that we were all living in just two weeks ago when people were having arguments about whether the romance system was 2/2/2 or 2/4/2? We were all so young and innocent then......!

Getting into fights because of romance content is pretty much what led to the romance subforum for ME3 getting shut down though. I don't like facilitating people getting hostile towards each other.
I understand your post was in jest, but I've seen people legitimize their aggression for the same (and similar) reasons.

Too bad the chest hair is hidden under that pesky shirt of his.
