Sorry I'll stop helping derail.

Anyone have any idea how the race gates are going to work? Do you think every LI would have them or just one or two? I see a lot of people thinking that the Bi LIs will be race gated.

I hope that only Varric and Iron Bull are race gated(Varric unavailable to Qunari and Iron Bull unavailable to Dwarves) since Dwarf-Qunari romances seem to be where the animation problems are.

I would like to hear from anyone interested in romancing the men, who your favourite is and what it is about them you like (from what little we know). At this point, I don't know what to think. I was really glad to have m/m options in DA:O and DA2 but I wasn't sold on Zevran (too slimey), Anders (plays with kittens and needs to wash his greasy hair when he's not busy murdering sweet old lady priests) OR Fenris (loved the vfoice, but why so broody Fen?).

I'm in the same boat, not sure, I'm not sold with any of the boys so far. None of their appearances do it for me. Which isn't a bad thing. At this point, it's going to take hearing their voices and seeing their personalities for me to decide who I might romance.

Of course I know Varric, but he's too much of a brother-figure to me to consider romancing. Cullen's likeable but nothing in DAO or DA2 made me feel like I want to romance him. Will just have to wait and see.

Lore wise, they are supposed to look human. The developers say the children of elves and humans are technically human.

I know, but looking *completely* human, especially when DA2 elves are physically farther from looking like humans, just didn't feel right to me.

I'm multiracial, and I can usually tell when other people are mixed race (and they often can tell that I'm mixed too).  It might not be apparent to *everyone*, but if you know what to look for it's more evident.  I thought Feynriel especially, had a good headmorph for this.

We don't know yet. People are saying the BI LIs because race gating them means cutting out a lot more work with the modeling.

Personally I think it probably won't be all of them but maybe at least half.

@Fighterchick

Cullen seems like a decent guy for a Templar. I'm glad they're doing away with the plastic hair of the old games now they have a new engine. Cullen's was like Lego. Varric is funny but not as funny as he thinks he is in my opinion. Wow this sounds like I'm getting down on every former companion but they all hold a special place in my heart (especially Merrill played by the wonderful Eve Myles aka Gwen Cooper) I could listen to that woman read the shipping forecast and be enthralled.

I liked that Feynriel and Danarius had at least a slight appearance of being elf-blooded, it never made sense to me that half-elves looked completely human.

It would be super cool if one of the presets in the character creator for DA:I for both male and female humans had an elf-blooded looking head.  I'm not expecting it, but it would be neat.

That would be cool...I guess I'll have to try my best with what we get.

I don't remember if there are any elf-blooded female characters for reference though.

At the moment we assume Varric would have issue with qunari, but Varric is a water off a duck's back kind of guy.  Once he figures out the inquisitor isn't a qunari and isn't here to convert the world, would he have such an issue?

I want SO MUCH for my saarabas to find love with the little blond storyteller...

The developers have said there is possibly a magical reason behind the fact that the unions don't produce an elven child, and that the reason isn't genetic or scientific, which is why it doesn't work like such unions do in the real world.

I'm still skeptical on them being romances at all more so Varric cause of Bianca (though I know nothing about her since I don't buy DA stuff outside the games) But if they are LIs it would make more sense to have them race gated though it still saddens the part of me that wanted to make a dwarf/qunari pairing^^; Would be nice with no race gates at all but since that isn't going to happen I really hope not every LI will be race gated I'd tear out my hair otherwise

I thought they hadn't confirmed racegating, just...seriously suggested it?

Besides which, as they've said, nothing is set in stone 'til it ships.

When I click on quote, no quote appears in my text box to edit. Like I am now apparently "replying directly" to JobacNoor's post (I clicked on "quote" in the bottom left corner of the post) and all I see is my text.. Something is afoot.

You may have the same problem I did. Try selecting "more reply options" then press the top left button all the buttons will be unusable after that then go back to the post you want to quote and press the quote button and it should work. Hopefully

Last week Gaider pretty much confirmed it in one of the other romance threads.

I'm pretty sure that was back before DA2, when there was Feynriel.  If qunari could change *that* much from DA:O to DA2 (I know there was an explanation for Sten, but every other qunari in DA:O had no excuse), I don't think it's so much to ask that they can continue to use the visual change that happened to elf-blooded characters in DA:I.

I'm not asking for another big change, just continuing to make elf-blooded characters look like they did in DA2.

It'd be nice if Bethany or Carver were the ninth companion like Ash or Kaidan in ME3. Whether that'd work with them being Warden or Circle/Templar idk.

I am now quoting you to test. It seems to be working. If it comes out right, thank you very much.

Before I knew that elf genes are, for lack of a better word, hyper-recessive, I thought the more humanlike characters, like the father from the Magistrate's Orders quest, had human blood.

Would be neat to have am elfblooded human as a companion.  Or PC.

Feynriel looked like a normal human with a longish face. I don't really see there being a visual change. He was still made with an entirely human model with his face and ears falling into the same general area as the other humans.

It's also mentioned in "The Calling", when Fiona explains to Maric that the children of elves and humans look human. We also have Slim as an example, and the theories that Alistair may be Fiona's son. There's also a human in "The Masked Empire" who is actually the son of an elf, and no one knows because the children of elves and human look human,

He was strangely pretty.  I could stand to see the elfblooded humans having some sort of physical trait that show it, not pointy ears, just unnatural beauty, maybe a lack of facial hair.

Honestly, I'm not all that passionate about this topic, especially as it's off topic for the Romance thread, but no, his ears are pointier than most other humans in DA2 and the bridge of his nose is more elf like.  I thought it was subtle but apparent that he looked like his mother.

It's not a huge deal, but it would be cool, that's all.

Isn't the 9th companion almost guaranteed to be Cole though? I thought he might also be a decent romance when I saw him but apparently he... has a reason he can't be that I can't say without the spoiler thingy which I also don't know how to do.

I know almost everyone knows but I saw someone getting a dressing down for revealing this very piece of information.

I like Bethany, she was sweet and I wish I could have had her in the party more instead of her disappearing off to the circle but Carver was an a**hole to my Hawke. He had some chip on his shoulder about being a younger brother or something that I really don't care about. I almost took him to the Deep Roads without Anders... but I didn't
