With respect, I almost think that was more of a comment on who would be on the "receiving" end of the romance.
Now, im not saying his statement was appropriate, or anything like that. Its most certainly not. But it seems much more like a statement from someone who is a jerk and uneducated then anything.
Its not a good thing to say. and its no doubt an insult. But to me homophobia is much deeper rooted then just a crude remark.
But what do i know, really?
I hear what you are saying in that the comment is different than an aggressive, "You are vile! Get your perversions out of my house!" type of comment. However, I maintain that equating gay men to women in a derogatory way is firmly within the bounds of "homophobia". It's couched a bit because it's not as blatantly aggressive, but, to me at least, it's really offensive. It's like saying that there are different types of racism. If someone makes a racist joke, that's not as bad as jumping them because of their race. However, both acts are racist. That's how I see this comment. But this conversation gets a bit away from the "romance" part of the thread.
On a more light note: I tend to think that if IB is a bisexual romance, he will be human, qunari only. The "anyone who won't break" line, to me, sounds like lithe little elves and I predict that there will be animation issues with dwarves. That kind of bums me out because I really, really want to do a male Cadash and Iron Bull romance!

"Romance" is a wide net that could encapsulate a lot of different stories. They don't all have to be soulmates, true love for the ages type deals.

IB is probably the first male bi companion. Now it's time for the female bi companion. ![]()

Ketojan should have been a companion and a romance option, that guy was awesome.

Elves are as tall as humans now though.
They are far thinner, however. Less body mass. But I could see elves, too. Dwarves, no, simply for the technical aspects of creating a scene between a dwarf Inquisitor and the Iron Bull.
(Should we start calling him 'The Bull', or just 'Bull'? This is, like, the second time we've heard him referred to as such.)

So if IB is a romance option, Varric might as well be one, right?
Both of which are to be race-gated, of course. Because Divine Gaider says so ![]()

I honestly don't think Karin's comments are hard confirmation. Strong hint towards it, though.

He just doesn't seem, well, monogamous, which is a sort of lowest common denominator for I'd consider romance anyway.

IB is probably the first male bi companion. Now it's time for the female bi companion.
So if IB is a romance, that would mean that we know 4 of them: 1 bisexual male, 1 lesbian, 1 unknown sexuality female, 1 unknown sexuality male (NPC)
It's kind of all over the place right now. We don't have any straight LI's announced (at least as confirmed sexuality) and we only have 1 NPC.
It also throws a wrench into the plans of the people who were thinking that we were going to have 6 LI's and the NPCs would be bisexual so everyone gets 1 NPC and 1 companion romance. Now, either it's unevenly distributed (which isn't all that bad in my opinion, but I know alot of people are against it) or we have more than 6 LIs.

Well, without getting into the debate over whether or not a given character would need to be monogamous for Bioware to make them the focus of a romance story, you aren't really taking into account the potential for character development.

Neither were Zevran or Isabela, and look how that turned out.

How does this throw a wrench in that theory? I can still totally see how it could work.

Although not technically confirmation, I would be extremely surprised if the Lead Editor, would make the mistake of not editing her own words about romancing the Bull.

Was Zevran sleeping with other people while he was with you? I don't remember that. I never romanced Isabella so I couldn't say. When I say "monogamous" I don't mean - stays in 1 relationships with 1 person forever. I mean - restricts sex to the people he is in a relationship with.

No, they stop because they fall in love with Warden or Hawke. Why can't Iron Bull do the same?

Dunno. I suppose it's possible. It's just not something I can really wrap my head around before I actually see it happen. He seems to like sex too much to be willing to only ever do it with 1 person indefinitely.

Because if there are only 6 LI's (Cass, Cullen, Sera, IB, one more male companion, and a female NPC), then at least on the male side, it's impossible unless there aren't any straight males. Otherwise, the NPC would be likely be straight (given that Cullen is likely not gay and IB is 'the bisexual'), which would mean that straight females will have 1 companion and 1 NPC and gay males will have 2 companions.

Personally I wouldn't care if his entire romance arc never moves beyond friends with benifits territory; there's no reason you can't still tell that story, but,

I could have easily said the same thing about Zevran and Isabela before their romances played out.

Though we don't know if IB won't be like Zevran in a possible romance path.

I guess the main difference with them is that they weren't part of a religion that more or less forbade recreational sex for a large part of their lives. I'm not saying I *know* this. I'm just talking about vague gut feelings.
