We should be careful with the word "fair."  The devs did state that not all romances and races were to be distributed equally.  Personally, I think it's balanced to leave elves open to everyone but IB and Varric.

Garrus from ME2 said the same thing, but to quote him:

"It isn't about that.  It's about us."

Yea, but it also seems weird he wouldn't break the "no humans" rule for Hawke but he would for the Inquisitor?  You can be pretty damn close to Varric in DA2.

I don't want to have to choose between them and neither do you

Why? People like different things. The fact that you're not interested in them doesn't mean others wouldn't.

... You already have Cassandra... That girl you wanted so much before they reveal she'd be an li. You'd be really livid ?  <_<

She's been confirmed as bi?  Otherwise, poor Sasha doesn't have her yet.   :(

Also in further reference to Varric not liking human women, he says directly to FemHawke after she flirts with him.

I feel like if Bull is for qunari and humans, then Varric would be for dwarves and elves, to be fair.

It makes sense in my mind to see that, as dwarves may be getting less options to choose from if race-gating is stacked toward humans.  But I can't rightly say... may very well be dwarves (and Qunari?) PCs have less options available to them.  It is difficult to guess.

I was pretty close to Varric as Hawke, yes.  However, he's changed (I'm sure the comics and the events of the beginning of DA:I have changed him some,) and he might have wanted to keep Hawke "just friends."  I was left with the impression that he told Hawke that he wasn't into humans (in a pretty easy-to-overlook conversation, where you are romancing Merrill) because he wasn't into Hawke or because Merrill was, you know, standing right there?

Anyway, I've had male best friends that I thought were attractive, but that I wasn't attracted to.  It's also happened to me; guy friends would think I was cute, but they weren't into me physically/romantically.

I'd like to think a cute dwarven girl might change his mind.   ;)   And he might have never thought humans were unappealing at all, but didn't want to date Hawke specifically.

So in this completely made up scenario, who does everyone want more if you had to choose between Varric, Solas and Blackwall?

Solas.

I've always wanted Scribbles as an option since the first image of her came out. Or am I misunderstanding you?

Nobody but Sera has been confirmed as any orientation. Cassandra and Cullen are just known to be available to someone. Iron bull is as close to confirmed as without being confirmed.

If LI, I can only see him as omnisexual, race-gating doesn't makes sense given his character profile.

he's most likely being race-gated because of animations

I guess James Vega is now romanceable in DA.

That's what I figured.  Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I could see Iron Bull being qunari only (both male and female) and Varric being female dwarf only. The rest would be available to all races, and if they did 2/2/2 with the remaining companions and advisers, that would give everyone at least two options with bonuses to the races that might not get as much love otherwise (dwarf was the least popular race in Origins, and while a lot of people on the BSN want to play qunari, humans and elves will probably still outnumber them by a healthy margin).

We don't know how much budget went into those animations, how much each cost, and the priority of the Bullmance.

The character is explicitely stated as omnisexual, why would he be gated ?

Could be because he still has his types. He may simply not find the dwarf inquisitor attractive. That could be Bioware's excuse for animation problems due to his height.

She's overlooked because she was in DA:A, which wasn't that much of a seller and had the worst companion dialogue system basically ever.

I enjoyed it. In fact, I enjoyed the banter between Anders and everybody else so much more in DAA than in DA2.

And, yeah, Sigrun was cool.

That would be lame, since he's described as someone he would sleep with everyone he wouldn't break.

And no a dwarf or even elf inquisitor wouldn't break.

Or unless he's still that hung up on Bianca.  Seriously writers, this is getting unsettling.

They almost used Velanna for the Justice merger, and they brought back Nate for a quest in DA2.  So that doesn't fly for me.   :(

You guys realize that she's the only female dwarf we've had as a party member in any BW fantasy game that has the race in it?

Possibly, but it's at least worth a mention.

If you don't count Mazzy Fentan. One of Jennifer Hale's first big roles for Bioware. Why does everyone forget Baldur's Gate?

Race gating of NPCs is a total non issues to me.  I'll just play whatever race I need to romance a given LI.  I would just be mad if whole PC races had *no* option, but the devs have already said it's not the case.

Well, technically Mazzy is a halfling (more or less a hobbit).

The internet may have spoken too soon about the IB as an LI:

@MsJessicaKight @aunicorninspace Well, you can certainly TRY to romance him...

I'm not knocking your choice of favourites but it seems like Garrus in ME and Varric in DA are almost universally considered the best guys to have around/romance/potentially romance. I like them both well enough but they both seem like your bog standard affable guys with decent (but by no means - to me - amazing) senses of humour.

Oh, right. And if I said same thing I am sure I'd get the backs of my knees taken out.
