I feel like you and I are destined to disagree on everything! The idea of fighting alongside an LI is something I and many others want to keep in BW games. In ME3, my 2 options were Kaidan and Steve. With the extended cut I get to say the most heartfelt goodbye to Kaidan just before the final push to the beam. With Steve, I get a vidcom chat. If that sounds sappy to you, then I'm ok with that. This is the romance thread and if I can't be sappy here...

If a femshep romances Traynor, there isn't even a vidcom chat. Just a quick conversation on the Normandy before heading to Earth.

I'm not saying NPC romances can't be done well and it's good that they're there for guys like you who don't want to date within their squad but for those that do, they definitely should remain.

What I find interesting is that Dean's basically right about the fraternization thing in concept... but it clearly never causes problems when it's actually done in any of the games. Obviously there'll be those who claim that this is solely a gameplay conceit, but the universe does not know that it's a game, and as such there'll be a different reason in the universe. So either the ME galaxy has evolved beyond the notion of squad drama, or there's some other factor that arrests it. And it would be interesting to discern what.

I could just listen to him read the phone book, seriously. Maybe with Fenris's theme in the background.

that theme makes me laugh to hard. No thanks.

But Male PC with Fenris voice? Yeesss.

I respect peoples love for that character, but if i have to listen to my character saying "Theyse mmmmagesters w'd mmmmake themselves your mmmmmmaster. D'Not let them!" I wont be able to take the game seriously.

I think I maybe in the minority but I like the Idea of The Inquisitor having a deep and well developed Non Companion/Squad member Romance I know Squad Romances are good too but I like the idea of The Inquisitors LI could be lending a hand in their own way "Merchant,Inn Keeper" stuff like that while I am fighting High Dragons and mending rifts.

Seriously though if he was one of the PC's voices (maybe we can have more than 1 option for each PC from now on?) I'd be pleased :D

I reject the premise that the relationships that the Warden/Inquisitor/Shepard/Hawke have with their team-mates fall under the category of "fraternisation" except in the cases of Kaidan, Ashley, Traynor and Steve and in those cases, like you said, it wasn't a problem. This may well be a contrivance by Bioware but people in the military do find love with others in the military even if they're different ranks. Maybe the alliance has realised you can't police other people's love lives. They'll either do it behind your back or everyone can just be grown ups and try to make it work. I suspect if the case of ME, those characters wouldn't serve on the same ship if they were in a relationship with Shepard under normal circumstances but those were anything but...

Well, we know that the Alliance does have rules against fraternization, but Cerberus does not. Presumably, Cerberus operations weren't impaired by this; this might have something to do with Cerberus being a far smaller organization that can personally screen all of its members, or possibly they deemed interpersonal bonds to raise the effectiveness of its cells.

It's all offscreen, but I personally don't think that Shepard would continue a romantic relationship if they thought there was a decent chance of it damaging the mission, and talking to everyone else on the squad about it would be boring and thus wouldn't appear onscreen. Ultimately, headcanon probably wins the day for dealing with this issue.

I don't think you're in the minority today. I'm all for extending the amount of LIs to include NPCs but not at the expense of squad LIs. I personally don't like the idea of the wifey/husband at home while I go off to fight dragons. There's nothing wrong with being an innkeeper or merchant but how do you get to know these people? What do you have to talk with them about? I read about how many marriages break up when men and women come back from war and they just don't connect with their spouses anymore because they haven't seen what these soldiers have seen.

Hes not a bad Voice actor, hes just so recognizable that i cant get it out of my head. Same reason why I dont like Jennifer hale, all i ever hear is FemShep.
(I dont really have that problem with Mark Meer though, and i preferred him.)

If people could be grownups about that sort of thing, they wouldn't need fraternization rules in the first place. The majority of people who claim it's a matter of love are thinking of their privates with their privates.

As for whether you can police it, it's rather simple. You find someone screwing soldiers under their command, you remove them from command. If they don't want to be removed, they should ensure problem is prevented some other way. It's the same point behind other conflicts of interest.

Ah that's fair enough. And yeah agreed with Hale.

Meer has incredible range. I can usually hear him and not realize it til it's pointed out.

I am incapable of playing the Female Trooper from SWTOR because of that. Down to the point that the noble/selfless Trooper can confuse me for Paragon Shepard.

I actually had the same problem, largely because the Trooper's voice direction wasn't actually quite as good as Shepard's. Though I had no problems at all playing a female Agent for that reason (actually, it was because I didn't want to play any Imperial class that wasn't Sith).

In the military, it's not so much about policing love lives as it is attempting to avoid favoritism or bias. As an example, the reason those rules exist is if there's a situation like on Virmire - Shepard had to choose between Ashley and Kaidan, and as a result of a romantic relationship, they may prioritize rescuing the one they're romantically involved in because of that, rather than approaching the choice rationally. By ME3, though, most of the rules and regs are secondary to sheer survival, and Shepard is at least in part outside of the official chain of command by virtue of being a Spectre anyway.

But I don't think this particularly applies in the Dragon Age games, in large part because I don't think that these same rules and regulations are in place with the armies of the people in Thedas.

Im hoping the alternate voice is a bit lower.

Sams voice was lovely, but it feels a bit too high pitched for a qunari.

I've heard from a surprising number of guys that romanced Ashley but saved Kaidan in their canon playthroughs (and then went back to get to get the sex scene) because he was the higher ranking officer or he was the tech specialist and he was with the bomb and they went back to make sure he wasn't over-run by geth and risk it not being detonated. You have to remember as well that their was no relationship, not even a kiss until just before Ilos when they thought they might not come back. In any event, Shepard was like you said a spectre and the council had basically commandeered the Normandy so I don't see how the Alliance could have stepped in to tell Shepard and Ashley to knock it off.

I thought that just watching the trailer and it kind of bothered me. I'm a huge Alex Wilton Regan fan, but I can spot her voice every time she shows up in a game I've played. I didn't start DA:A until after ME3 and and I was like Mhairi? No, you're Traynor and THEN Ser Tamra came up to me and I was like, Traynor you're alive! I can also hear Miranda Raison (Cassandra) all over DA2 even though she's not doing the Nevarran accent because I'm a huge fan of Spooks.
