Fenris was the Zevran of DA2. Neither of them had anything particularly plot relevant going on that would be missed if they were totally excised from the plot, which.. basically they easily COULD be, since they were optional. Fenris even more so, since at least you can't totally miss Zevran. Male elves haven't got the best treatment. Good luck Solas.

Wasn't Fenris also bugged in the Legacy DLC where he didn't have romance dialog in it like the other LIs did? Elven men really do get the short stick, I may be tired of elves and blondes but I also wish Solas luck, I'd hate to see him get shoved under the rug and have him be easily missed. (though I'd hate to have any companion be easy to miss)

I agree with you, but at least heterosexual and homosexual gamer had plot relevant characters as LI's (Anders and Isabela). I'd like to have the characters more balanced when it comes to plot relevance, but at least DA2 was a step in the right direction. DA:O wasn't balanced enough.

I have no idea if it's fixed or not since I haven't finished a Fenris romance yet, poor guy has the luck of being the person I go with right before I set the game aside for too long and need to reset^^;

My LI in DA2 was Anders, so I'm not sure about Fenris's dialog. It wouldn't surprise me, though. Zevran is glitched for what seems like most people to still have sex with Isabela in DA2 if you romanced him, even though he's supposed to decline.

I would really love for all the companions to get roughly even representation. Morrigan and Alistair were a little overboard in DA:O, imo. They did better in DA2, I thought, but Fenris was still the one that got left to the sidelines. I think they've made up for Morrigan's focus with Leliana in the extended story, though. She's gotten features in all three games and the two most recent books.

It was weird to me how detached Fenris was from basically everything going on around him in DA2. I didn't like it much... I wanted him to end up doing at least one thing that felt important but he never really did. I know being reclusive was part of his personality and all, I just like feeling like all of my companions are equally important to the story. Controversial characters attract me more I suppose, with their attention-grabbing nature. I always had Anders or Isabela as my LI, haha.

I romanced Fenris in almost all of my playthroughs, and on XBox he definitely had romance dialogue in Legacy.  In fact, Legacy is the only time you have an option to speak with him at all about walking out on you at the end of Act 2...which is something?

okay, I hope I won't have this bug either (I'm also playing on Xbox). I'm looking forward to Fenris dialogue in Legacy. : ) I really like the DA2 dlc's, especially the one with Tallis.

It just felt like Fenris had literally no reason to be in DA2, narratively. Everyone else had some strong tie to the plot.

Anders - Mage freedom rebel.

Aveline - Captain of the Kirkwall guard.

Isabela - Qunari situation.

Sebastian - Brother of the chantry, prince of Starkhaven.

Varric - Deep roads expedition organizer, necessary for the red lyrium plot.

Merrill - Her tribe is stranded near the city and she needs the demon trapped in the cave to help restore the Eluvian.

Fenris - ?????????????

Fenris vocally seems to try to balance Anders with as much constant bitching about mages, but he doesn't actually take any sort of active role. He goes along with you happily if you support the templars, but it's not like he makes any of his own efforts and it's really easy to get him to fight with you for mage freedom. I guess he gives his perspective on Tevinter to make you think about the possible downfalls of mage freedom, but he's just one obviously biased individual, so that doesn't go far.

DA2 has such awesome DLC... I enjoyed the DLC more than most of the actual game. And I'm no DA2 hater, so that's just saying I really, really loved the DLC, haha. Mark of the Assassin was my fave of all, though. Tallis <3 Such a crush on her. :s

I liked Legacy, but I didn't like Mark of the Assassin. I haaaaaaaaaaate when I have to take a specific character with me and have to kick someone from my usual party. I will sometimes trade one of my usual for someone plot relevant, but I want it to be MY choice based on thinking they really, really are worth missing dialog for one of my favorites. I didn't want to trade out Isabela for Tallis. I also didn't want to help a Qunari spy. Grrrrr.

I don't think characters really need to be tied to the central plot, though.  Hawke was just some random chick/dude who became involved through circumstances & knowing the right people at the wrong time...the same can be said for Fenris or any other character, really.  I expect the Inquisition members to not all be shining jewels of their respective class/race - just people who want to help & have the ability to do so.

EDIT - I loved the DA2 DLC, too.  ^.^

I can understand the companion part, it was a tad annoying... although I ended up loving Tallis so much I didn't care. I wanted to take her back with me haha. If I remember correctly though you can refuse to help her at some point, yes?

I actually liked her more than Merrill and Isabela together. She was cute, likeable, funny, and less extrem in her personality traits than the other two. and I liked her connection with the qunari. She's the evidence that supporter of the Qun can be really nice and likeable people, no matter what their belief is.

Yes, but then you help her, anyway. You split from her, but you end up helping her fight the boss and letting her walk away with the list. The decision is practically not there at all.

So, big shocker in that David Gaider is not writing Cole. That means his second romance is still on the table as being either Dorian or Solas, where as before most people seemed to think it must be one of the NPCs. What do you guys think? D:

It's fixed now yeah but I was a bit confused how everyone was talking about their romance quips and I got none.

Exactly! I really wished she could have stayed around after it, I grew to just really enjoy her character's company. I loved her humor and flirtatiousness. :P

Wow, that's really upsetting. Even though I personally wanted to help her so I obviously chose that option, it is really a bummer to know that no matter which choice you make the same thing happens. D: Sorry about that. I would definitely be bugged by it if I was in your position as well.

Yeah Fenris is just a foil to Anders was my guess. But honestly I disliked DA2's plot enough that Fenris being mostly separate from it works very well in his vaor.

If its between Solas and Dorian I'd prefer Dorian just cause I've had enough of elven men and blond men.  But it seems to be tradition to have blonds and elven men so I won't be surprised if it is Solas.  Can't speak on NPCs cause I haven't been staying on top of whose writing romances and whose writing which characters.

What does that have to do with Cole though?

David Gaider said he wrote two companions and two romances. Cole wouldn't be a romance and most people assumed that he was Gaider's, so the second assumption was that Gaider must have written an NPC romance to fill the second.

Dorian and Solas both seem pretty equally interesting to me at this point. Perhaps Dorian a bit more because we've never had a former magister come along on a journey.
