<3 Very true. I knew it already but I appreciate the comment, sometimes I need to be snapped back into reality when someone is ticking me off, haha.

It's easy to get frustrated sometimes with the vocal minority that has been talking about "straight phobia" and other related nonsense, but remember that they are just that: A minority among their group.   ;)

If they had a trangender companion, do you think they ought to be a LI?

Well, I guess you can't ever say anyone "ought" to be. If it fits their character, then it would be nice.

All that I meant was that straight women have often received less romance content (or less desirable content, cf. the Jacob catastrophe in ME3 or the Thanemace), and I worry that DA:I will repeat.

Also...Garrus in ME3, but only if your romanced him in ME2. Otherwise you were stuck with Kaiden (who was bi it seems).

For anyone other than a straight guy being able to live out a Captain Kirk fantasy, the ME romances were.....limited.

Bioware games are about choice i have no choice when anders flirts with me its forced.

I'm sorry to butt in, but this comment baffled me. You also don't choose to have Loghain abandon Ostagar, does that make you balk and declare it was forced? And in DA:O Zevran flirts with both male and female wardens, but I don't remember anyone ever causing a huge fuss over that.

It's a harmless comment that you can choose to reject or encourage. If you reject it, he stops and you end up with a bit of rivalry, that's all. You can also avoid it completely, although I don't recall the parameters that determine that.

Or none if Kaidan is killed for Ashley and you didn't romance Garrus in ME2.

Isabela comes onto the PC as well only you can not actually avoid it how come no one seemed upset very vocally about that? Or maybe they did and have gotten over it by now since it was a game ago and can't be changed now. The followers won't be flirting with you without you flirting with them anyway so why bring up the Anders thing at all?

As someone who gets hit on at a bar by a stranger 'has no choice', it's forced. Your logic is comical as is your definition of 'forced'.

You were still able to turn him down.

It would only be forced if he ignored you turning him down and then forced you do something. Which you know....he doesn't do.

but you are given the choice to turn him down. Him flirting with you didn't force you to romance him, nor did it turn your character gay. If you are not interested you can tell him so. He'll be upset for five minutes and then everyone goes on with their life. He doesn't brood the entire game and badger you to date him every chance he gets.

Not to mention Anders hits on female characters as well. I didn't choose for him to hit on me, but I did choose to tell him I wasn't interested. It didn't offend me that a man might be interested in me. Had he kept bothering me about it, I would have been upset, but he dropped it as soon as I told him no thank you.

How is that any different?

There is a differene if a man comes on to a women thats fine to you if your a straight women. But anders flirts where uncomfortable to straight men thats why a lot off people got angry about it.

You can avoid it by taking the snarky options stll gets rivalry but only 5 instead of 15 you maybe able to avoid it with direct or aggressive responses as well but I've only tried the snarky route.

It's because Dorian is gay.  Seriously, that's it.  Dorian's gay and this poster has concerns that Dorian will hit on him.  Even though he got told after his first post that companions will not be hitting on the PC.

Oh and because we've had 2 characters revealed as not-straight and possible LIs for Inquisition, supposedly straight men are going to be left with the least amount of options.

I'm not trying to put down that poster, but I'll admit to having no sympathy for him.

As I said earlier, you'd think some of these posters would be a touch more careful with their choice of words.  For now, I take the giggles and bits of good cheer where I can find them.   ;)

If you play male hawke he will flirt with you its forced after a mission.

its not really forced man I bet you wouldn't be so angry if it was a girl who was " shoved down your throat"

Just like in real life sometimes people show interest in somebody who doesn't feel the same way you turn him/her down

and move on and that was basically the case with Anders

Uh, I'm reasonably sure Jagged Orchid is lesbian. As am I. And I too will tell you to get over it.

NO. No NO NOOOO.

Simply being of the 'right' orientation to have a relationship with someone doesn't make flirting automatically ok. Also, gay men were hit on by Isabela and lesbians were hit on by Anders. But none of that matters because unwanted sexual advances are unwanted sexual advances no matter what the orientation. And it someone doesn't back off when you tell them to thats a big problem no matter if the parties involved have compatible orientations or not. Anders backs down. He's embarrassed and angry perhaps, but he backs down. Nothing was forced.

Oh man crying about Anders little forced flirt and +15 rivalry? Ha.

When he attempts to fondle you, act as though he didn't hear your refusual then you could consider it being forced. As it was? Just an flirt that got shut down. It happens.

And so the couple of times I've been hit on by a woman IRL I should be all up in arms? OMG I was just forced to say thank you but no!

Or all the times my BF had been hit on by guys at the bar? Was he being forced? He would say not interested, have a little conversation, then both parties would go their way.

I'd hate to see how you would react to a similar situation IRL since your reaction to a video game character is so overblown.

Also, I wanted to chime in that sexual preference has little to do with being hit on as a woman.  I will also say to get over it.

Honestly, you're not going to change this guy's mind. You might as well let it go. Bioware isn't going to write characters for him, anyway. This kind of attitude is on the downhill. You might as well pick your battles and let them stew in it.

Then maybe it would be best for everyone to ignore them then? I'd really hate to see this thread get shut down over something like this. The poster got an answer for their concerns and if they won't pay attention to the answer thats on them then. No need to drag down a perfectly fun thread right? :)

Edit:  never mind was beaten to it

Err, not all straight women are happy when a random man flirts with her.  I know that in my second playthrough, when I wasn't planning to romance Anders, and I didn't know there was a way to bypass the flirt dialogue entirely, I winced at the way Hawke asked Anders not to speak to her that way.  Mostly because I've had that awkward interaction with a man before, and I didn't know how he would take it.  Obviously Anders didn't become aggressive and creepy after being rejected, but in real life, some women have that happen, or worse.

It's not fun to have to reject anyone, even if you're not worried about their reaction, but it's not a horrific injustice if a man has to do it to another man in a game, especially since there's a way around it.

Snarky Hawke is wonderful makes it difficult for me to pick any other kind of Hawke over them even if some of the responses were a little questionable ^_^
