I'm afraid Iron Bull will be straight because Freddie Prinze Jr. is a republican. Kidding... I know he's cool.

for a republican.

 FPJ's political leanings won't affect the character the writers created.  If Iron Bull is meant to be straight or bi, that is and will remain the call of the writers.  Don't give FPJ that much credit, celebrity or not.  Most professional actors don't let their personal feelings get in the way of a part.  If they aren't comfortable with a role, then they don't do it.  Or, they'll do the role anyways because it challenges them as as person and as a actor.

In a voice actor's panel recently, a person asked Jennifer Hale about that at Denver Comic Con, and that was pretty much what she said, stressing on the word professional.

By the way, please leave real life politics out of this.   I'm sure you didn't mean much harm in it, but it's a touchy subject and leads to a lot anger and stereotyping.

I'm afraid I'll only be able to hear FPJ in Iron Bull's voice  :( I don't really want another ME3 where I spent the entire game feeling like James snuck onto the Normandy because he wanted a better ride than the Mystery Machine  :lol:   ^^;

He sounds like an odd mix between Sean Connery and Deckard Cain.  It doesn't sound like Vega at all nor like the actor himself, if that helps.

Last video I saw he sounded like himself trying to sound like Sean Connery but it was an interview video and I haven't been able to hear Iron Bull speak in a video yet but if he doesn't sound like himself yeah it helps. I got nothing against the guy he's just one of the voices that I have mentally pinned to one character. ^^; I know that sounds odd. Can't say I know what Deckard Cain is though I"m pretty bad about knowing actors and voice actors by name^^;

No problem.  I guess it helps that I never watched the Scooby Doo live action movie.  I had no idea Vega was even FPJ until I looked it up (I've got really into voice actors/acting lately,) then promptly facepalmed for missing something so obvious.   :blush:

...Bioware confirmed that Sera is lesbian in June. The game will come out in October. What other confirmation do you need that Sera will be surely lesbian?

I know she was confirmed lesbian. Just forget what I said, I don't know why I am helping out that guy anyways.

Eh, if the character is still being written as a spirit with the mind if a 12-year-old, I don't think it's at all unfair to frown on the idea of wanting the character for a romance.

Fair enough if Cole turns out to have matured significantly since Asunder, but if not, you don't think the idea of wanting to romance a child should be labelled with something negative?

I think Cole's mental age is hard to get and people saw it differently from Asunder which is why some though he might be romance option. His body is around 19 years old which is in age much closer to some players than other LI's seem to be. I don't think book said in any part current Cole was 12 years old, it showed memory of 12 years old Cole in the fade but at least I didn't connect there that current Cole was 12 as well.

Know that I know that he's not into romancing anyone and might still be have mentality of child (though I hope not all things since I don't want child soldier..) I don't want to romance him anymore. If he was spirit/what-ever-he-is who was aware of stuff like that and into it.. why not romance him ^^;

No, I just don't believe in absolutes until it is confirmed by Bioware themselves.

Aren't you the person who stated that Cullen is 'defo straight' and then offered up a challenge to me when I said that he could be bisexual....? Yes? Just checking.....

If it makes you feel better, from the demo nobody had any clue who voiced him until Under the Horns was released. I think that weird accent he does, on top of a possible pitch, will help quite a bit.

I said I was kidding... I didn't really need the lecture but I admit I shouldn't have made a joke about politics in this thread. Poking fun at right-wing nutjobs is a fun past-time for me but then I normally post on sites where it's practically a given that everyone is a liberal. My bad.

Yes I'm aware actors have no say in these things and even if FPJ did, I have no problem believing that he wouldn't change a thing. Again... I was kidding and I said he seems like a cool guy.

I am interested in the Jennifer Hale thing though. What exactly happened?

-_- I'm sorry, I've known Sera was lesbian since E3. I do not think that will change. Cullen on the other hand has evidence of his heterosexuality, not much room for a counter-argument but go ahead if you must.

I think the interview with Freddie shows clearly that when he voices IB he changes his voice.

I'm not going to argue with you about it. I just find it amusing how you accept THAT without dev confirmation though......

I'm liberal as well, but I tend to avoid politics on the BSN.  It wasn't anything personal, I just have friends of various political leanings and sometimes get a little testy when blanket statements are made.  I know you didn't mean any harm, so I apologize if I was being a pain in the butt to you. :)

As far as the con, it wasn't anything special really.  They had a voice actors panel at the Denver Comic Con a few weeks ago, which turned out to be largely a ME reunion.  Kimberly Brooks, Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale were among the VAs there.  When Q&A came up, someone politely asked if acting out gay and lesbian romances was uncomfortable or wrong to them.  Jennifer said pretty much what I said about professional actors with their role choices, with both Kimberly and Mark nodding in agreement.  For the record, both Mark and Jennifer stated that they didn't have a problem doing the s/s romances in ME.

I put the actor's name with their IMBD links so everyone can put a voice with the face.

They even allowed Kaidan as a romance only for women in ME1 and then still allowed him for m/m in ME3. Arguments about character evidence aside, from a totally meta standpoint, Origins was a long time ago and Kaidan and Anders showed that they don't really have a problem making dudes bisexual when they weren't necessarily presented as bi in a clear way originally.

I'm not necessarily saying Cullen will definitely be bi, but I could easily see it going either way. There's strong precedent that they wouldn't have a problem doing it.

I wouldn't have minded if FPJ had kept his natural voice for IB. I found out that he was doing the voice before I'd actually heard the voice and I was really into the idea because I thought it's be great to have a qunari that didn't sound so deep and so serious all the time. When I actually heard the voice being recorded in the studio, I didn't know what to think. It was so unexpected coming from his mouth. I think I like it but I won't really know until I hear it in game. It kinda put the kibosh on my dream on romancing a qunari version of Vega though ;)

Quick last note about VA's and romances: The actors aren't against s/s romances, or romances in games, but they admitted it was a royal pain in the arse to do.

This is a direct quote from Jennifer Hale: "Oh god, love scenes.  I'd rather do an hour of combat than 2 minutes of love scenes."  Apparently it wasn't due to the content, it's just that it can sometimes need take after take after take to get the tone and inflections just right.

The worst words for a VA to hear?  "That was nice, but could you do that again?"

And I apologise for the "lecture" comment. That was an overreaction on my part.

I'm glad that the VAs are openly supportive of their work when it means so much to many people. I can't stand it when actors come across like they're above doing VA work at all or above video games in particular. Those that think that way are foolish if they can't e appreciate the medium when it's done well or its value as an interactive art form. I may we way off base here but I get the impression from Carrie-Anne Moss's work as Aria that she doesn't really understand the game or the character except that she's a tough b-tch. Am I the only one who thinks this?

On a more relationship topic, I always wondered why Ashley wasn't available to women in the third game and if the answer is religion, I don't like that reasoning when she said herself she wasn't a zealot and we are talking about the 22nd century here.

I didn't really think it about it too much, to be honest.  I just figured Ashley was straight, unlike Kaidan that came out later in life (meaning by ME3.)  <shrug>

Well, yes, but I was mostly referring to Bioware's decision of making on bi and the other straight.

Maybe he was written as bi from the start and Ashley as straight, and they weren't comfortable including a bisexual male LI to the series until ME3?

I know, I'm taking the terribly boring answers, but it's honestly what I believe.  I can understand if others see it much differently though.  :)

I think it was because without Kaidan, gay males would only have 1 NPC romance so revealing Kaidan as bisexual allowed more options for us.
