Honestly, I didn't commit as much to ME as the DA series. I didn't play ME1 at all. I just did the choice comic thing for it and picked up from ME2. Then I played ME2 and ME3 only one time. I never got around to getting the Citadel DLC. It just didn't appeal to me as much as the DA series. But I will follow the release as it gets close to the next game and chances are pretty good I'll give it a shot.
If you like the Kaidan romance, I recommend the Citadel DLC. If you're not really feeling the series though, I can understand why you'd leave it and wait for ME:Next, whenever the hell that's going to happen. I actually bought and played ME3 first without knowing what the hell was going on just because it had a gay romance in it. I'd never really played a third person shooter before and I wasn't keen on the idea but I forced myself to give it a go for that reason. I was just sick of playing straight protagonists. Afterwards I went back and played the whole trilogy and I couldn't believe all the stuff I had missed or not understood the first time. Now I'm a bit obsessed with both ME and DA and RPGs in general because I want to play my story, not someone else's. They've kind of ruined other games for me that don't give you choices. I would never buy a game with romance options but no s/s romance options just on principle. This is why I haven't played SWTOR (even though I like the look of it and it's a Bioware game) until they change that aspect of it (which apparently they've been promising for a while).

Yeah, a friend told me that ME3 was adding m/m relationships, but they also told me to pick up ME2 and do the comic if I wanted to really "get it". So, that's what I did. I like Kaidan's romance, but it was a bit of a drag playing through ME2 with just vague hints of maybe sexual tension when you see him for a brief period. I hope that the next game will be more progressive, like the DA series has been since the last game.

Waiting for Kaidan is a drag but ME2, for me, is great so I let it slide. ME1's combat and no Kaidan make it a real trudge. I've played it 3 times I think but if I wanted a new character with a different name I'd probably just use the comic which I've used a couple of times when I couldn't be bothered. I know the story inside and out now and there's no huge benefit to importing a save over the comic like there is between 2 and 3.

Honestly, I do like a lot about ME2. It really comes down to the fact that not having a romance just really detracts from my enjoyment. It just feels like something is missing. Especially since I didn't really feel like the friendships were that strongly developed.

Yeah my main issue with FenrisxIsabela was he could screw her with impunity but one night with my Hawke brought all the damn feels out, causing him to run and not mention it for 3 damn years. That **** didn't make any sense. I really rather avoid ridiculous scenarios like that.
I actually liked the Leliana and Alistair bit >_>
I figured since Fenris and Isabela don't hook up until Act 3, it just means he gets his head together and heals enough for, ah, interpersonal relationships by that time anyway.
I liked the Leliana/Alistair part as well. And I notice that Alistair does the Dark Ritual on his own initiative, too... made me feel less bad about making him do it on my 'canon' run.

I don't know. Isabela was hitting on him pretty hard in act 2. I don't think she'd wait til act 3 to take a bite. I just comfort myself with the Hawke screwed him so hard his life flashed before his eyes comic. XD
I guess it's less that he wanted to do it and more...he's desperate. He really lacks the leadership abilities of the warden and Morrigan threatening to walk out if he didn't do it was probably what did it.
Please don't ever let there be another DR like scenario in DA that's one thing that makes me nauseous. So much do not want.

I think part of it has to do with by the time Hawke and Fenris get together, Hawke is a member of society again. Maybe the class difference between them and the power difference is what triggers Fenris. Also... the whole shoving him against the wall thing...
Isabela strikes me as the type of woman that would know better than to be THAT aggressive with Fenris.
My two cents at least.

I agree with you 100%. In case you can't tell by my enthusiasm, I'm a huge ME fan but having Kaidan as an LI in ME1 and another m/m relationship as an option in ME2 (when you thought Kaidan was over you) would have made the series perfect for me. They should do this if they release the HD Super Duper edition for next-gen consoles that everyone is expecting... if it's feasible, which it probably isn't.
As for DA, I love that they've always had m/m options but they haven't quite gotten it right for me yet. Zev's romance didn't seem like real love to me and I just found Anders to be unappealing (both character-wise and physically). Fenris was probably the best of the 3 but his constant bitching about mages gets on my nerves. This all sounds like I'm complaining but it's only because I love the games so much that I really want them to nail the m/m romances. It's like when a parent really pushes an already smart and overachieving kid to do even better in school; it's because you know they can and you want to see them reach their full potential. I don't think twice about passing on the games of other developers but with almost every title from Bioware (and all the DLCs), I've been like "Take my money now!", which goes to show how highly I regard them and what they do.

Fenris shoved first. But yeah maybe.
I'm not so sure about that but I'm not that knowledgable about Isabela so I'll defer to your judgement.
Also it doesn't help Fenris reaction to Hawke friend or not touching him is to practically growl.

Well comic was the wrong word it was...more like three images? And it's somewhere in that behemoth of a Fenris thread D: WAIT FOUND IT.

I totally get what you mean. I felt the same way about Zevran's relationship, honestly. I don't even care that he's promiscuous or flirty, but it seemed a bit distant. There was also the fact that they kind of ground it in that he preferred women. In DA2, I actually liked Anders a bit more. It was a bit unfortunate how extreme both Anders and Fenris were, but somehow I just felt like I meshed better with Anders. Fenris was actually a little more attractive, to me, but they both were acceptable. My problem with Fenris was mostly that he was just such a harsh person. I mean, I understand he had reasons. It may change if you get into the romance with him, because I never took it that far, but the scenes where he throws the wine bottle and others just sort of rubbed me the wrong way. Plus, he seems to snarl all his lines. I'm easily put off by aggressive people. Anders is definitely aggressive at times, but he seems softer in one-on-one conversations and more emotionally available, so he's the one that I felt a better connection with.
I don't buy a lot of games, probably like a dozen total, but I'm always interested in anything Bioware puts out. I totally understand you there. Bioware makes my favorite games, hands down. Nothing else even comes close, for me. So, it is some perspective from where any negative feedback comes from. It's in love. Haha. lol

To be fair in regards to the whole Isabella/Fenris hook up vs the Hawke/Fenris hook up...
The Hawke/Fenris relationship has a lot of emotional undertones, no matter if you're in rivalmance or a friendmance.
Isabella on the other hand you know from the get go will make it clear that it's just a shag.

Anders is an improvement on Zevran no question. The first time I played, I romanced Anders because, like you say, he is much more affable and easy to like than Fenris. When he turned out to be a murderous maniac, I let it go because he was my LI. Second time, I chose Fenris and enjoyed it more later when he had chilled out a bit and that voice was sexy as (btw I just found out today that he is Deucalion from Teen Wolf if anyone watches that). I still sided with the mages though so there was always that between us. Third time around, I tried Anders again but knowing what he was going to do and the fact that I was never really that into him from the beginning made the romance unrewarding to the point that I thought I'd get to know Sebastian more for something to do. I actually ended up really liking Sebastian for his kind and noble ways despite being a bit too religious for my tastes. He's actually quite open-minded when it comes to mages though and never wants to see anyone come to harm (unlike Anders) so when it came down to that Hawke realising Ander's had just murdered a woman that Sebastian (his now best friend) looked to as a surrogate mother after his own parents had been killed, all to incite war, I killed Anders. He seemed so sweet at first but he really was a homicidal maniac. I don't get how I let it go before.

Aw, poor Zev. He falls in super love with the Warden. It makes me sad when people don't think he does, because I way over-identify with how he withdraws when things start getting "real" for him. Falling in love is scary for a lot of people, especially those with trust issues or who have survived relationship abuse of any stripe, and I think the last few beats of his romance reflect that pretty well. I think that his last romance conversation and his good-bye at the Denerim gates are heartbreakingly genuine (and made even more effective in contrast with his usual glibness).

Agreed.
Leliana and Alistair are at least similar enough in their views that their relationship makes sense, plus there are no problematic dynamics (Templar!Carver/Merrill makes me want to puke). Isabela and Fenris make sense, too, because by Act 3, they're both in pretty good places and are relatively low-drama. I get a sense that Fenris prefers to hang out with people, like Isabela and Donnic, who would rather enjoy themselves than get wrapped up in the angsty/end-of-Kirkwall ish that is distracting everyone else.

Because Fenris generates enough of that himself?
At least, if my canon DA2 playthrough happens to be a nonmage, I can prevent Bethany and Sebastian from ever seeing each other.
