Like The Elder King said, bisexuals will always have the most options regardless by the very virtue of being open to both male and female romances. If there are the same number of each sexuality then it's as close to equal balance as you can get. And again, it's much less costly and easier on your resources. But really, I don't think there's any great crime in giving more options to the queer players than the straight ones. I don't really believe that straight characters need to automatically exist to balance out queer characters. I just think that from a gave developer viewpoint, you'd want to be as fair and ubiased as possible, you know? And at least make an effort to go for a certain balance.

Technically it wouldn't be a crime to give the straight players more romance options either. But us players being the self-eintiled pricks that we are, would probably cry wolf the very instant we became aware of the situation, and flag the game as a horrible crime against not only the LGBT community but humanity itself. Never mind that equality isn't a question of quantity. But hey, the internet will be the internet.

Because it makes sense logistically to race gate the "special sized" romance interests so that they wouldn't have to animate for every player race and gender.

Also, Varric has said he doesn't like humans, so it just... fits?

Varric hasn't been confirmed, and he has less of a chance than any other companion (barring Cole) of being a LI any way.  I'm not saying there's no way he'll be an option, but it is highly unlikely.

It also depends on whether or not they are written as bisexuals or if they have a set gender preference outside of the PC romance.

For example, Isabela is clearly written as a bisexual while the other DAII romances have no expressed gender preference. I mean, Fenris hooks up with Isabela and had a relationship (though I hate to use that word) with men in the past, he never expresses interest in anyone other than Hawke and Isabela. Where Merrill and Anders have no mention of sexuality outside of Hawke.

Anders mentions having a relationship with Karl if you're a guy and he mentions his magical lightning sex with Isabela in Ferelden during a banter. If you play a guy, Fenris and Anders are actually pretty clearly bisexual in the right circumstance. It kind of sucks that they don't make their attraction to males clear unless you're a guy that shows interest in them.

Ah, I have never played a male Hawke past the Prologue so I didn't know that. Hehe. Though I do remember the lightning sex banter. I just didn't remember hearing about the participants of said... event. Hehe. With Fenris, again, no dudes, but with a female Hawke he barely mentions anything sexual unless you've initiated the flirting.

...Man, see, this is why I prefer the all-bi set up. A variation of an all-bi set up where all romances are both functionally bisexual and written as bisexual, that is, but still an all-bi set up. It makes everything so less complicated.

No insult intended. Just stating that us on the internet, will ALWAYS find something to complain about, and we will always try to overstate the severeity of the actual issue. Just look at the guys who complained about Sera.

By the end of the day, as long as the quality is living up to, or exceeding, expectations, then the fact that one sexual orientation or another, didn't get as many options as the others should not matter.

I prefer the "Everyone is sexually ambiguous" myself. That way if players want to impose a sexuality, they can. Why should I care what they do in their copy of the game?

I know it's a fantasy and all but I don't get how Trish looks like women and Cassandra isn't. I know it's a game and appeal to fantasy and all, but a lot of them want females to be models instead of actual warriors. It falls exactly into this trope:

http://tvtropes.org/...sNeverTarnished

It kinda ruins realism for me when the men get scars and disfigured while females look all pampered and smooth like supermodel.

The lightning sex banter always stands out to me. Haha.

I think they're pretty shy about m/m content in the games unless you go out of your way to access it, but it seems like they're getting more brave about it all the time. Hopefully this time Dorian wont be shy about it, but honestly I'm even more interested to see how they handle the bi options with the overall gender gating. I just hope they don't get pushed to the side and that they're written to be clearly bisexual and not strongly favoring one side. I think it's been overall a progressive path for Bioware, though, so I'm keeping the faith. lol

I think that everyone being spelled out and written as bi does far more favors for representation and inclusion, although I also kind of like more ambiguous sexualities too? But so much media gets ambiguous and wink-wink nudge-nudge about queer characters and so often skittish about doing more than that... so I am a bit conflitced.

Not that it ultimately matters because we apparently won't be getting that set up anymore :( R.I.P.

Honestly, I'm still on team "all bi" for the romances, also. We'll see how this goes. I'll be honest, though, I just don't like this system because I don't want to get locked out of my favorite romance. This time Dorian is gay and he was my favorite, but I know there will be a next time and I'll still likely lose a second favorite. lol

I think they said that there won't be anything from the characters romantically until you initiate it. I guess there were too many dude bros that complained about Anders and Zevran hitting on you because their PC never went, "no gay stuff!"

Well, but they also said you would know the character's sexualities even if you didn't romance them. So, I assume they mean that they will still talk about it, they just wont come on to you unless you initiate it.

I am happy that Dorian is gay for the representation (and I have a clearer view of my male Inquisitor for him than my first PT), but I am sad because out of all the male characters so far he has been the first dark skinned, dark haired male romance interest and it hurts that I can't glomp with my preferred gender. No big. But hopefully next time we can get a bi version of him.

But straight men would be able to romance both Cassandra and Scribbles regardless of which one was straight and which one was bi.

Because it could perceive as unfair when an NPC are exclusively straight. That's how I feel when I find out that the gay options in ME3 are NPCs, but I have always been treated this way. I can imagine a bigger backlash when straight guys who had never being treated like that saw the reveal that that their exclusive option is an NPC.

Oh, right, I thought you meant not shy with the Inquisitor. =) Misunderstood.

I'm just happy he's available to me, but I would have been equally happy if he was bi. I would be thrilled for a bi character like him next time, because I'd totally romance him, too. lol

Pretty much. There are still people complaining about the Anders line, like it ruined their entire gaming experience or something.

It kind of makes me sad, because I actually enjoyed how some characters would show interest first. It seemed more realistic to me. Sometimes doing all of the initiating yourself can make your character come off kinda creepy, haha.

Well, it sounds like the NPC/advisers are getting a bigger role than previous NPCs... so maybe the Adviser romances won't be Romance Lite or whatever.

Although, it would be fitting if both the straight only romances were confined to NPC-dom after ME3 sequestering their LG options on the Normandy.

I agree with you, I sort of like it when they bring it up sometimes. The only thing I wish is that they wouldn't give disapproval if you turn them down respectfully. I mean, we're all adults, you'd think they could just shrug it off as not personal. I think disapproval should be reserved for important decisions you make concerning world issues. Like, I don't think the Anders issue is a big deal at all because he comes on to you, but it's really weird to me that he gives more disapproval than characters often do for choices that go against their core beliefs. It comes across as pretty weird, to me.

So, basically, I wish they would still let characters initiate interest in romance, but I wish it wasn't tied to the approval system. At least not unless you pick an obviously insulting option, or something.

I'm sorry but I can't take you seriously at all if you say that Bioware has something against straight male players.

You can't romance all of the women like you usually can, so sad.

I wouldn't really say the comparison would be fitting, when you look at the ME3 romances the companions that were options already had set sexualities. So unless they made Vega the m/m option, NPCs were the only way to add m/m and f/f exclusive romances

Were in DA:I we pretty much have all new characters

Yeah, but you (and we) also had huge numerical discrepancies in the total number of possible LIs. I would think that would be a bigger issue.

Without the benefit of full disclosure on in-game romances, I'll just say that it's unfortunate the Inquisitor can't just go where he/she wants. Better yet, where circumstances and hearts lead. Personally, I never liked Cassandra, so it's hard for me to imagine romancing her, but who knows... The game may paint her in a more appealing light (to me). What's been written about Vivienne's personality makes her equally unappealing, but again, who knows what will melt the Iron Lady's heart? The one female I was drawn to right away was Sera and it's said that she's not available. As for the other ladies *shrugs* we'll see, but methinks my Inquisitor shall remain unattached.
