Why is everyone taking the race-gating as fact?  It hasn't been confirmed. Gaider could have been stating a hypothetical/trolling.

Actually:

By "particular group" I mean "in real life."

Worrying about the distribution between male and female players, and one of them feeling like content geared at them was an afterthought, I am fine with. Worrying about a distribution amongst sexualities, and making it so that gay or bisexual players don't feel they won't have choices, I am also fine with. Worrying about "players who like playing dwarves" or "players who like playing humans" or whatever other races, that I'm not as concerned about. Which is why I'm saying you will have options, but you may not have the same number of options depending on what race you select.

It's fine if someone doesn't like that idea. Some folks, we're quite aware, aren't happy that romances are being gated at all and would prefer to have all romances available to all PC's. I would suggest not panicking just yet, as not all romances are even race-gated and the options have not all suddenly dried up as someone might fear, but I suppose until and unless they learn otherwise they can justifiably choose to be pessimistic. Maybe we'll put up the chart (yes, there's actually a chart) at some point, and having said information will make you feel better before you play the game, but that's not really my decision.

In the second part, it seems pretty clear that race gating is present, just not for all romances.

I'm assuming race gating won't ever cut humans out, just because they're by and far the most commonly played race. But I'm betting there's some who will just be humans and one other race (IB and Varric)

Well, it sounds like the NPC/advisers are getting a bigger role than previous NPCs... so maybe the Adviser romances won't be Romance Lite or whatever.

Although, it would be fitting if both the straight only romances were confined to NPC-dom after ME3 sequestering their LG options on the Normandy.

Disagree completely

A. NPC romances can never be equivalent to companion ones imo

B. because Dragon Age is a completely separate franchise to ME

C. Treating another group unfairly isn't the way to address historical shortfalls, treating people equally is.

It's not actually unfair. If, say, Cassandra and Scribbles are both LIs, but one is bi and one is straight, it does not affect you regardless of which one is bi and which one is straight; you get to romance both.

Of course its unfair imo if straight orientations get access to just one companion responses whilst other orientations get access to 2.

So your concern is not how many you have, but how many other people have?

Its not equal if cass is bi then women would get two squad romances while others get one. Its unfair others get more content.

My concern is fairness. The previous system provided equal levels of accessability. So if the new system disadvantages one orientation by giving them access to less companion romances then yes i'll be unhappy.

You don't know if companions get more romance content than advisors.

Aha. So the time to complain, logically, should have been when Sera was revealed as a lesbian, wherein you could state "the fact that I have fewer romance options than all of them makes me sad." Because that's when you lost out on part of your companion romance quota. However, the choice of whether to have Cassandra or Scribbles be bi does not affect your own options in the slightest.

More to the point, there's no reason to write off the advisers already. They'll probably be better than the gay options in ME3.

The advisors are playing bigger roles than regular NPCs, so they're romance content has a good chance of being equal to companion romance content

Companions will definitely get more party banter and potentially more fleshing out as characters since they are with you on quests.

I just want to make is clear that Bioware is handling equality in Dragon Age waaay better than they did in Mass Effect. I'm sure the Advisor romances will be able to compete with the Companion romances

If Cassandra is straight and scribbles bi everyone gets equal levels of companion romances, so the orientation of Cassandra/Scribbles does effect the fairness of options between orientations.

There's every reason to view advisors as less valuable to companions as time spent with companions(admitted to by some devs in past) has always been a factor in embellishing romance content(which because of its optional status is never going to get full bells and whistles content)

What if Vivienne was straight and Cass was bi then everyone would have 2 options or is it that since lesbians have Sera they should be punished by not having Cass.

I think so too - I mean, look at Leliana's role in the trailers from E3. She is defiantly in some precarious situations that seem to rival the bigger romances in their past games (Anders, Morrigan, Alistair, and Isabella). Which makes me hope Cullen and Scribbles will get into equally interesting spots.

Why not take Vivienne as a straight option, then?

I think they're reasoning in the case of a 2/2/2 approach.
