No one.

I'm attempting to figure out if you don't understand the conversation or if you just want to disagree and can't be bothered to come up with an actual reason I'm incorrect.

In Exile is asking whether *length of time spent together* matters. I am saying it does and giving an example of when *length of time spent together* mattered.

I talked with non-Qyzen companions in TOR. I got their affection up and did their quests. Then I forgot about them while remembering Qyzen because I spent almost a hundred hours with him. He didn't have more conversation, I couldn't understand his ambient banter (he literally grunts to communicate), and his plot was no better than anyone else's.

But because I spent a lot of time with him, I grew attached and remembered who he was.

If I spend 80 hours running around with Cassandra and 15 hours with Cullen, Cassandra is going to make a bigger impression on me. Even if the only difference is seeing her model running with mine (and that won't be the only difference.)

That means, to answer In Exile's question, length of time spent together matters.

Now, you might say that it doesn't matter *to you* and that's fine, but In Exile was wondering how it matters to *anyone.*

Just to confirm, yup, that's basically what I was asking and, yup, Maria totally answered my Q.

Not as shudderworthy, to me, as Bethany/Sebastian or Merrill/Carver...

I seriously wonder what sort of drug people think Templar lyrium is analogous to, considering the off-the-wall denounciations and depictions of it.

Wow, I feel... a little ashamed that the idea of Cullen going through (essentially) drug withdrawal is the first thing that had made me interested in romancing him (if he's bi, anyway), hahaha.

Then again, I've always had a thing for vulnerable men. >_>

I'd say opiates, at least as far as the terms of addiction go.  Much of the withdrawl symptoms reminded me of heroin (weepiness, confusion, possibly being physically sick, bursts of irrationality, severe manic episodes, other aches, pains and chills ).  I had friends of mine that were pill poppers and without getting too deeply into it, I had my own struggles as well.   That's just my opinion though.  I'm certainly not going to speak for others, but that's what the effects of lyrium withdraw remind me of.

My mage will be more than happy to share her lyrium potion stash with Cullen if it keeps him on his A-game.

I do wonder if it's all that lyrium drinking that makes Templars think the best way to find mages is to stand in the middle of a Kirkwall street and say, "Has anyone seen any mages?"

On the same row as the bold, underline, ect options, there is a square (it's right next to <> and quote button.)  Just copy your link, paste it into the box and it should come up.

Or you can do this: [ img] pic [/img ]  without the spaces in the brackets.  Like so (just randomly picked an example:)

...but where have we had any ex-Templar who demonstrated opiate withdrawal symptoms?

Totally ignore the effects of actually taking lyrium, which are completely different than the effects of taking heroin. The addled/irrationality/confusion comes from extended (as in, decades/full career) use of taking lyrium, not the withdrawal from a lack of it. We see that end of the spectrum in DAO with the Templar in the alienage.

The effects of withdrawal are hardly pleasant, but nowhere near all that either. The main case I can think of is Samson. He didn't have the irrationality, maniac swings, or weepiness. 'Physically sick' or 'pains and chills' maybe, depending on how you define it, but that's pretty much a universal withdrawal system.

I was referring to this quest.  Alistair even comments that this poor guy is in the throws of a lyrium withdrawl:

I'm not out to start a debate about lyrium addiction in the Romance thread.  You asked for opinions, so I gave mine.  I didn't say that the feeling of the high was the same, only that the similarities come from how the withdrawl looks.

Wait, was that supposed to be withdrawal? I thought that was him being broken by torture, considering where he was and considering the amount of time Alistair went without lyrium.

Yep, that was the signs of lyrium withdrawl.  I still think it would not make for a good romance subplot with the character Cullen.

Getting this back to romances, here's a question to the thread in general:  Which do you think will come first?  Scribbles' name, or another companion LI reveal.  I think it'll be the latter.  At this rate, we won't find out her name until the beginning of fall in September.   :P

Alistair never took Lyrium because he never actually became a Templar officially.

That was retconned. Now he did indeed take Lyrium to learn his Templar abilities, and had to keep taking it to maintain them.

Excellent to hear.  Sidestepping the lyrium debate, which do you think would come first?  Another confirmation of a LI, or Scribbles' name?

To expound upon: Alistair may not have had to take lyrium to maintain his abilities during DAO, but Gaider did confirm your require lyrium for the abilities. And I believe one of the Alistair comics after DAO establishes that he started taking it again afterwards.

I'm not sure how much of a retcon actually occurred: Alistair being wrong about needing lyrium is a definite, but I don't remember Alistair claiming he never took lyrium. Just that he hadn't taken his vows.

He mentions in game that he never took it, there's a question "So you're addicted to this Lyrium then?" or something, and he then goes on to explain that he didn't take it because he never offically became a Templar, ah well...*shrug*

idk. i really, really would not want rehab cullen story arc. plz, no.

There won't be a rehab Cullen story arc, lyrium addiction cannot be "rehabilitated".  Once you start to take lyrium there is two outcomes: become totally crazy the more of take it or become totally crazy faster if you stop to take it.

I think they will announce all companions first and then reveal all advisors better. Probaply next LI comes first XD
